Has anybody ever figured out what it means?

I’ve given some solid clues to a couple of people who asked about it… :D

The more things change the more they stay the same?

Binary read?

It's a binary (base-two) representation of Morse Code, which is a quinary (base-five) system...

It apparently means nothing Bill. Here is the result i got from a binary to text translator.

Error: Malformed binary. Your binary code is must be divisible by 8.

Don't you need some spaces for that?

<EDIT: text deleted so as not to confuse things>

There are five conditions in Morse Code, which can be represented in binary as follows:

1. dot (a.k.a. 'short mark' or 'dit')____________________________________________ ______1
2. dash (a.k.a. 'long mark' or 'dah')____________________________________________ _____111
3. intra-character gap (between the dots and dashes within a single Morse Code character)________0
4. short gap (between letters)__________________________________________ ___________000
5. medium gap (between words)____________________________________________ _______0000000

I'm not surprised, Ray...

For the translator to have successfully made the conversion,

it would have had to first translate from binary to Morse-specific quinary,

then from Morse Code to text.

The proof is in your earlier post:

And, from your thoughtful and wise observation,

I can tell that you were probably not far from solving this puzzle yourself.

You get credit for an assist.

I remember a certain semester,

back when I was an upperclassman undergrad in college,

prior to which I'd reached third-year French with flying colors...

as well as achieved a certain level of recognition for my work in English literature

(I was chosen to present a paper on the poetry of Matthew Arnold,

which I had written for one of my college English courses,

at a symposium made up mainly of high school English teachers and college English professors)...

Anyhow, during this particular semester,

I was taking a Fortran-based course in numerical methods,

as well as a course in advanced calculus...

and was struck by how much it helped me in these endevours

to have previously learned the structures of the French and English languages...

IMHO, it's all about figuring out the structure of a thing...

and about being unafraid and open to take on new subject matter.
