Here's what happens when the Libs literally go nuts.
AP - Monday, April 6, 2009
"The case of the unknown squirrel feeder may be a tough nut to crack. But the state of Wisconsin is on it.
In a nutshell, the state sent a letter Monday to tenants of a downtown office building, asking whoever's been feeding the squirrels on the Capitol lawn to please stop.
It's not that the state has anything against squirrels, or nuts for that matter. It's just that with thousands of school children touring the building each year, those with peanut allergies may be at risk thanks to an indiscriminate nut-tossing squirrel-lover.
According to the letter, the squirrel lover has been carpeting the ground under trees on the Capitol lawn with peanuts".
Should we now ban peanuts from baseball stadiums, circuses, and other events because we are so afraid that some peanut dust may blow around and cause damage?
I got an idea, how about a designated peanut eating area....or maybe a peanut free zone.
Arrrrrggggggh! When does the madness stop?

This is probably a case of they're more afraid of being sued than of the peanuts actually doing any harm.

This does not surprise me. My Father was telling me that the State of South Dakota wants to ban all Swing Sets that are not made of some new type of plastic that is 'hypoalergenic' and has no possibility of being painted in its past....

The children have a right not to be exposed to danger. The designated peanut eating area is a good first start, but there will always be somebody who wants to sneak a cashew behind the barn.

Do we need warning labels on nut containers stating that they have been processed in a facility that processes nuts?

"Cause damage"?
Do you realize how serious and deadly these allergies can be? I see no problem with them asking the person to stop spreading peanuts around.

I got a call from the school once about my son having "peanutbutter breath" and how dangerouse it could be to a studant in his class.
I laughed and told them the kid needs to find a safer world because mine isnt going to give up eating a food anouther has a reaction too.
They called me heartless, I called them over reactionist retards.

Nuts...thrown on the lawn of the capital...to feed the 'wild' squirrels in a public place...and the wacko's are worried some kid is gonna be dumb enough to pick one up and eat it when the kid knows its allergic to peanuts? Come on...this is beyond stupid.
If your kid is that deathly allergic to peanuts...then shouldn't it be the parents responsibility to ensure that their little darling is watched? It's little things like this that make for really stupid laws due to parents who want everyone to conform to their needs instead of taking responsibility for their childs special needs. Makes me wanna
Where are the greenies who should be bellowing how these poor squirrels will die without the food being placed in the park for them? I'm surprised tree boxes aren't installed to ensure said little furry rodents are well fed in this Capital park.

See It Clearly,
While the story in the OP may be a little extreme, I get the impression from your comments that you don't understand how serious anaphylaxis can be
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anaphylaxis
People with peanut or tree nut allergies can die when exposed to just a few molecules of the chemical that triggers the allergic reaction - that is why these people carry epinephrine shots with them at ALL times.
I have to believe that if you had a loved one with a severe peanut allergy you'd have no problem requiring that an airline inconvenience the rest of the passengers by not passing out peanuts in-flight.
Also, calling honored guests dumb is a way to ensure a short stay here...I suggest that you edit.

How about the fact that the peanut butter breath can KILL another child. A past girlfriend of mine has a son who had a critical peanut allergy. I know full well how easily it can be brought on, and how quickly the child can react.
It is standard practice now that teachers themselves can not consume peanut butter before coming to school, and it's a normal precaution for students as well.
You can call it dumb if you like, but first learn how easy it is to create a reaction.

Exactly. next, we will hopefully have government agree to send letters to all of the restaurants that have flowers at there tables, because many children are allergic to such.
I also do not understand why children that live in homes with pets are allowed to go to school with pet hair and dander on them. Don't these parents know that some kids may react badly to that? Hopefully the government can ask these arrogant and selfish pet owning parents to get rid of there animals, for the good of the allergic children.
Now that I think about it, I am allergic to freshly cut grass. When I was a kid, I had to be taken to the hospital a few times due to my reaction to it. I am certain there are children out there right now suffering through this horrific problem, and all because our government will not take steps to stop these allergy instigating and evil people from cutting there grass!

Ridiculous indeed, which was exactly my point.
I would suggest that any government, be it local, state or federal, has better ways to spend its time and effort than complaining about squirrel food. yes, some people are allergic to peanuts, but there reaches a point at which those people that are allergic have to stop expecting society to bend around them. If you are so allergic to peanuts that being down wind or even being in the mere vicinity of them is enough to kill you, then I would suggest that stopping someone from feeding a squirrel is not the solution to your problem..

You can suggest or rant about whatever you want, but that doesn't make the "time and effort" of sending printed letters out requesting people stop throwing peanuts on the ground in an area frequented by many children any sort of waste.

You know what? You are right. God forbid that we actually ask someone to be responsible for themselves or there children. No, instead we should encourage the government to make sure that our interests are covered, that way we need not worry ourselves with petty things like responsibility and obligations.

No one is disputing that people with allergies to peanuts should probably not eat them. I am not sure why you feel the need to prove this point.

Sad story...there are lots of them to be had out there if you look ...especially gruesome one's with the sub heading of "allergic food reactions/death".
Now if your kid is that damn allergic to anything on this planet...do you honestly think it's ok to place his or her health needs into the hands of lunch ladies, hormonal teen boy friends or girlfriends or public servants in Capital park? Much less a peanut munching teacher? Come on folks...your kid needs special needs and care due to a sever allergy...then he or she gets to have his or her parents right at his or her side to protect said little darling. ...

If someone has that sever of an allergy to any 'normal' daily enviromental living conditions, it's their responsibility to find a way to live in that environment, or change their personal urges/eating habits/daily routines to meet their own health requirements. Don't expect others to change their personal choices or environment to simply make it easier on you. ;)
I'm not allergic to peanuts...or any other foods for that matter. If I were still working in the medical field..I would do as I always had done in previous years after eating lunch...brush my teeth; or use mouth wash to rinse after meals. No big deal right. Unless someone is allergic to toothpaste or mouth wash.....

I think some airlines disagree with you - when someone with a severe peanut allergy is on the flight, certain airlines do attempt to accomodate them, essentially forcing the other passengers to change their environment
Some airlines may make the following accomodations [sic]:
* serve a nonpeanut snack if requested in advance (e.g., Southwest)
* provide a “peanut buffer zone” around the passenger with food allergy by not serving peanuts in the passenger’s row of seats and in nearby rows (e.g., Delta, Northwest)
* make an announcement (on board the plane and/or at the gate area before boarding) asking all passengers to voluntarily refrain from eating peanut products (e.g., JetBlue)
