And after you watch this news video of a guy who walks behind his buddy while he's pumping gas and lights a match 'as a joke' you may agree with me.

Freaking stupid...

Gasoline comes by its flammable reputation honestly. The fumes themselves are just as dangerous if not more so than the liquid. You don't even need to touch the liquid with the match to light it up.

Its a good thing evolution is pretty much proven science...

Stupid is not a worthwhile trait.

At least it was the moron that took the brunt of his own stupidity and was severely burned and VERY deservedly so.

He will likely be disfigured and tormented by the pains of the burns to the end of his life. Fortunately, the other three people he put in danger weren't seriously hurt.

As for the moron. He thoroughly deserves his burns and his pain. I have no compassion for him at all.

That guy is a hardcore smoker. Hair, clothes, skin, all smoking!

When this guy lights up, he REALLY lights up!

This kind of stuff is why I vehemently oppose socialized medicine. I don't want to have to pay for this kind of stupidity.

I was drinking my morning coffee when I read your post...now I'm wiping it up off my screen! lmao....

Have to agree with the majority here...this guy is a moron. Hard way to learn a lesson though.

As far as the thread title, there are at least a couple of jokes in there at his expense. But I'll refrain :D

That's not enough. I hope he's charged, and I hope the prosecutors get REAL creative. There was a ****ing baby in that car.

Yeah, but this wasn't just stupid. It was criminal. I watched that thinking of the times I've struggled to get my grandson loose from the restraints in his car seat. It's not as if you can just push one button and *whoosh* the kid is out.

When the reporter said "baby", my heart went into my throat.

Dear God.

Fear not, members of my Hannity.com family. The New World Order will be restricting conception and breeding of people. Population control is one of their main goals. The planet's population will be somewhere between 500 million and 1 billion. They figure that's a controllable number.

Just look at it this way: The more of them that knock themselves off because of their own stupidity, the better the odds you will be allowed to live.

You shouldn't even use a cell phone around gas fumes because a static discharge can cause the vapors to ignite. Now lighting a match? I wonder what the guy thought was going to happen.

Video of people on fire always seems to do that for me.

My reaction was DEAR GOD, not "I feel superior".

Everyone in that car, including the baby...everyone at the gas station and inside the convenience market, all of them could have been horribly injured or dead if that pump exploded.

Not to have an opinion about this would be bizarre to me.

If you are serious please clarify what 'New World Order' you are talking about....;)....

I hope you do stand up because your views would be wasted just posting on here.....

Urban Myth... A cell phone cannot even ignite gasoline fumes in a confined, enclosed area let alone out in the open. Don't you watch Mythbusters? :eh:

Urban Myth... A cell phone cannot even ignite gasoline fumes in a confined, enclosed area let alone out in the open. Don't you watch Mythbusters? :eh:

Actually, turning a cell phone off makes it transmit. The cell phone will tell the system "I'm turning off now" so that the cell towers know that calls won't be received by that phone and to route calls to voicemail instead. So, the act of turning off a cell phone actually does what people are turning off cell phones to avoid having the cell phone do.

The most common cause of igniting gas fumes is "re-entry", getting back in the car to get something out of the glovebox or purse or such and then getting back out of the car having picked up a static electricity charge from the auto upholstery. Then when the metal nozzle is touched, ZAP and BOOM. If you can feel a static zap, then that's about 5,000 volts. If you can HEAR the zap, then that's over 10,000 volts.

Don't turn off the cell phone because that's counterproductive even if the phone could produce a spark, and don't get back in the car while the gas cap is off the vehicle. If the cap is off the car, then you should be out of the car.
