View Full Version : Ever Get on a Music Kick?

I consider myself fairly diverse when it comes to music...Rock, Country, Blues, Jazz, Bluegrass, Celtic, Reggae, older R&B...Metal from the 70s and 80s...I'll pretty much listen to anything aside from Rap and Hip Hop..that **** doesn't qualify as music IMO...
I thought it was interesting today though, I had to buy a new iPhone, and I was downloading everything from iTunes, and I added some new stuff today as well. I have over 700 songs downloaded...another 150 or so that I've converted from CDs...
But I noticed today that over 40 songs on my iPhone are by Van Morrison...I can listen to him all day long, and never get tired of it...and maybe it's because his music is so diverse, many of the genres I mentioned previously, you can find the influence in his music.
I was talking to my brother and he said he has over 100 Bob Marley songs, can't get enough...
So, how about you...is there an artist or band that you just connect with? If so why do you think it is?

I do get on music kicks.
They come along and last for a while and then I get tired of them and something else comes along. Usually after i runthrough a band or a genre, it comes back again for a run. My tyasetes are not as diverse as yours are. I like Classic Rock, Punk Rock, Ska, Indie Rock, and Grunge.
Recently I switched from a Ska binge, where I culdn't stop listening to it, to now I'm back listening to classic rock.
I have to have a change of music from time to time.

I'm on the same music kick I've had since 1980...
Look in my sig..
I like most 70's and 80's rock, blues, and metal. (I don't care for much newer metal, and I don't like cookie monster vocals).
Some country is ok too.

I'm with you on the Cookie Monster thing...gotta be able to understand the lyrics...You won't notice anything like Gwar on my iPod...Probably the "newest" metal band I listen to is Korn...of course at times they can sound like Cookie Monster...

Oh no, I love Gwar.. That's not cookie monster..
I mean seriously.. Cookie monster vocals are exactly like that.. Imagine if the cookie monster gargles broken glass and drano..
Sounds like that.
My favorite singers are Bruce Dickinson, and Steve Perry from Journey. There are plenty others I like alot, but those are the two favorites beyond all others.

My musical tastes are widely varied... similar to your own. I most definately get into music kicks. I really appreciate talented musicians (perhaps a good reason I don't care for Coldplay ) and I like the ones who never really made a huge public impact, but are still amazing writers and singers. Some examples of these would be...
Gerry Rafferty - His "City To City" album is one I could listen to continuously and never get tired of it.
Dan Fogelberg - He was known, but grossly under rated as a songwriter and musician.
Todd Rundgren - I have every album of his, and they're all so different.
Joni Mitchell - "Court And Spark" is nothing less than a musical masterpiece.
Joe Satriani - Simply the best ever in my opinion.
I also have been known to listen to the B-52's for days on end.

All I meant by that is that we had to put up with Journey more regularly than the rest of the country.
Worst S.F. band ever. Except maybe the Mickey Thomas version of Jefferson Starship.

Y'all are too literal.
I live in Anniston. The east side is the upper crust area...the west side is the poverty stricken area...When addressing these certain parts of town we can either say "the East side" or "East Anniston"...even though their not a town called East Anniston, no one will be upset for saying as such.
I'm reading too much into this aren't I?

I read too much into things all the time :))
But really...it's not a literal thing. Seriously......if they would have said "Born and raised south of Detroit" or "Born and raised in southwest Detroit" we would have no issue....but with Detroit there is an east side and a west side...no north or south side. The only time north or south are mentioned when talking about directions in Detroit....it is to mention what part of east or west you live in...northeast, northwest, southeast, southwest. And that is only if you are being picky. Most of the time you are just an eastsider or westsider :D
