A longtime rivalry debuted Citi Field Sunday.

But it wasn't what most think.

Redmen at Hoyas.

It was the seventh-largest Division I Baseball crowd in history.

Former Mets closer John Franco took off his Mets jacket to reveal a Redmen jersey, having worn the jersey in college, to throw the first pitch for the first game.

Will we see in the future the Big East Tournament at Citi Field, joining AmeriQuest, Fenway, the Metrodome, and Minute Maid Park as frequent college baseball visitors?

They have played the WAC tournament in Minute Maid Park in the past. Now, college baseball is significantly more popular in the south and west, so for the WAC to do it, or the SEC to possibly raid Turner Field, or even the Pac-10 to have theirs in Dodger Stadium might be worth the expense. Using Citi Field or Citizen's Bank Park (Villanova's not far) for the Big East or Atlantic 10 (there are no big conferences other than the Big East in the northeast) tournaments wouldn't really be worth it.

The Astros (Astros College Classic) and Twins (Dairy Queen Shootout; will not move to Target Field but stay in the Metrodome) both host tournaments.

The SEC is committed to Hoover, AL.

Game 3, Clean, Old Fashioned Hate is played at Turner Field. The 'Dogs and 'Jackets often draw more than 25,000 fans for the Turner Field game.

The 2010 ACC Baseball Tournament is set for Fenway after a scheduling change. But it's good to see Citi Field debut with college ball and a rivalry.

Hey, I graduated from St. John's back in 1979!

Too bad they lost.

There WERE the Redmen back then, unfortunately political correctness means they are now the Red Storm!

Wow. They actually convinced the southern section of the conference to head to BC's home turf? I'm surprised.

I can't stand the Mets (or the Yankees) but their new parks are nice.

I'll sympathize with Yankees fans when Old Yankee Stadium is demolished. The Big Red Machine had its greatest success during the Riverfront Stadium era, but the team was born in the Crosley Field era.
