I know what it smells like if the cat box gets dirty...this house must've been pretty ripe.

...and this is in McMansionland about 10 miles from me.

Feces, urine, and other debris covered much of the house, including an 8-inch mound of feces coating the bottom of a bathtub, according to the Star-Ledger report.

Ewwwwwwwwwww! How could anyone live like that?

I wonder if she has family that was aware of her living conditions.

Also...doesn't it make you wonder what compells people to do stuff like this? There has to be something very lacking in them that makes them want to collect cats (or any other kind of animal) to this degree.

I couldn't get the video to play. It wanted to install adobe flash player and my security settings on this computer blocked it.

The video wasn't all that great...just showed the property and a few stills of the inside of the house.

It's up to 93 cats now... :)

It's a form of mental illness that leads to cat hording. They have a need to take care of something.. in this case cats... but not the mental or physical energy to do it right. They think that cats need them and that they are doing good.

It's a nice house on a lot of land. Her 20 year old daughter lives with her there. She has a son away at college. Apparently her kids were raised in this mess and accept it.

Sad.. I hope that she can her daughter get the help they need to stop living like this. I hope the house can be cleaned. It might have to be destroyed.

93 counts at 6 months in jail apiece would be 46+ years in prison. At least the living conditions will be better for her.

I don't get how she could afford it.

Figure a typical cat eats 3 oz. of cat food per day and there are 90 cats, that's 270 oz. of cat food every day. Call it 20 pounds. That's going to cost about $35 per day or roughly $1,000 per month.

That's an expensive hobby by most standards. Was she on a trust fund or what? Her clothes had to smell so bad that she was unemployable. Anything in that house would stink to high heaven. Yet she had some serious money from somewhere...

$1,000 a month is just a drop in the bucket for Chester. It's a very affluent area, those homes are in the millions. I'd say the minimum for property taxes for most houses in Chester would be $15,000 per year.

Indeed.

One of the articles I linked said she subdivided her property a while back, because her house was going into foreclosure.

She sold the spare land. Probably got 150K per half acre. Not sure how much she sold, but yeah...it's Chester.

On a side note, I wish the Chester Flea Market was still there on 206...its not as fun in the middle of Dover... :)

Oh I know! most people complain that it isn't in Chester anymore. I have no problem with it being in Dover though. They're moving it back to the streets in Dover next month instead of the parking lot by the train station. The bread guy isn't there anymore :( he always made the best bread especially the jalapeno bread, but at least the Pickleman from New York still comes and of course the people from Chinatown who sell the fake designer handbags, there's almost a stampede everytime I go there to get a handbag, the women are so pushy, myself included LOL.

As for her subdividing, I'm surprised Chester allows that, I think there's a town around us where you can't do that, I guess it isn't Chester.

I can't even imagine someone living in that house, the local paper said it was 2-3 feet high in feces in some rooms, and every room had feces in it.
