There is a short video attached to this article.

If you are so inclined, the entire funeral is on this site:

ALL of the over 800 cops that work for that department, as well as all civilian employees were cut loose from their shifts and allowed to attend the services. Law enforcement from the surrounding community, from other cities to the county sherrif's dept stepped up and volunteered to take their shifts so that they could do so.

On one hand, the overwhelming local response blows me away, and on the other, of course they would respond. There are some incredible people that live in that community. Behold some of their faces.

It's tragic and sad what happened to those officers. It really riles me up that the man who was responsible for it is being hailed a a hero by some.

The 60 squeaky little voices that showed up to hail him as a hero/victim have been drowned out by the 21,000 people who showed up to pay their last respects to these fine officers who gave their lives in the line of duty.

May the four officers rest in peace.

To the LEOs here, you might find the beginning of this person's words of interest. It comes after he first thanks everyone there, and acknowledges the family and tells a story about Officer Hege. Then he speaks to the community and the media. It's the sort of thing that you hear in private, but you never see on the news.

Btw, I've known this man since I was 13. He got that medal of valor with my brother. He's a 'cop's cop' if ykwim.

Not a lot of love lost between Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums and the families of the four slain police officers who were laid to rest Friday.

None of the families requested that the mayor speak at the televised funeral - in fact, we're told, two families specifically asked that he not speak.

One of the slain officers went so far as to leave behind specific instructions in his emergency packet that Dellums not be asked to speak should the officer be killed in the line of duty.

"Make of it what you may. All I'm going to say is that the families and officers did not ask him to speak," said one police union official who asked not to be named.

Mayoral press aide Paul Rose declined to comment on the matter except to say, "The mayor attended the funeral to express his condolences, just like the rest of Oakland. He honored the families' wishes."

It's no secret that Dellums - who is often long on rhetoric and short on action - is not held in high regard among some members of the Oakland PD.

It didn't help that after the March 21 killings Dellums was a no-show for several hours, before finally holding a short press conference - while others, including state Attorney General and ex-Mayor Jerry Brown and East Oakland City Council members Larry Reid and Desley Brooks, spent hours with shell-shocked cops at police union headquarters.

Reid even went to the family wakes of each of the four slain officers in the days that followed.

Like I said, no love lost with Dellums. Empty political suit, only cares about the politics of it, doesn't give a **** about the real people involved and this article certainly reveals that.

These people must have been from the suburbs. No one in hippie and Panther-loving Oakland respects the Police Department.
