I have had to move up to a higher cost plan on my satellite internet service because of fictitious uploading issues. I am keeping a really good eye on the usage meter and it is at 60% for the uploads and 28% downloads. I do have a wireless network, but we live in a very remote area. I just checked outside and there is no one on my lawn with a laptop. My husband and I are normal internet users with downloading but nothing extreme. I have triple checked my virus software on my machines and the router has a firewall. I checked all the usual culprits. I surf, I do e-mail, download from iTunes. I download programs. I have given up the online games. I am clueless as to how this happened, and I am really upset. I just freaking referred my parents to this company before this happened. The tech support was cold and useless, and almost had an accusatory tone. I am not some hacker criminal. I am not on some strange uploading binge. No one broke into my house and uploaded data. We have been with this company for years, and all of a sudden I had an overwhelming urge to upload the internet? Why can't they give people a break. I have a strong suspicion that they do this to squeeze money out of people. Yeah, it is hard times but that doesn't make it okay to steal.

Has this bandwith issue happened to any of you? I don't know if I can mention the name of the satellite service.

Thanks for listening to the rant...

I remember reading about some people getting cut off by ISP's for peer-to-peer programs which can cause insane uploads. Examples would be Kazaa or Bit Torrent or Bearshare. What happens is if your computer has a file to "share" the file will be uploaded to whoever on the internet wants it. If you've got a popular file then the machine will go crazy with uploads to the point that the internet service providers take notice.

No P2P use here. I buy my music on Itunes. We got it fixed. What a pain!

Are you using vid cameras between two locations? Uploading or downloading between these locations uses a heck of allot of bandwidth.
