I'm trying to learn how to make an animated GIF and have decided to use my avatar as my first attempt. As you can see, Snidley Whiplash's face is currently pink. I am using Macromedia Fireworks MX to create "layers?" that will turn his face from white to a pink blush. Problem is, when I export the 2 layer GIF, the resulting GIF isn't animated.

Anybody know why this isn't working and can help me figure this out? I can make it work while in Fireworks but the resulting export doesn't.

PS. I have read the tutorials and thought I was following the procedure exactly.

I'm not familiar with that particular software, but i think you may be confusing layers with frames. I use Jasc Animation Shop to create my animations and I have to import a separate frame for each movement. I don't usually mess with layers, as i create most of my artwork in CorelDraw and PhotoPaint where layers aren't really needed. Is the avie you have up now the one you attempted to animate?

You are correct. The correct term is "frames". I created two frames with a .75 second delay. One white faced and one blushing. The program lets me "export preview" and in that preview, I can click on a "play" button to animate it. Since that works, I would assume it would do so when I exported it to my desktop. Yet when I click on the GIF, only the blushing face shows.

And yes, this avatar is what I'm trying to animate.

w00t! Got it figured out, even though it's still a little crude. I needed to export as "image only". That created the animated GIF.
