Mother Nature's carbon footprint is going to go through the roof.

Prayers that no one is hurt and that the ash doesn't affect any aircraft.

I am confused though on one score, do I still blame Bush or can I lay the blame on the current occupant of the Oval Office?

On the first part I agree.

On the second, I'm sure someone will find a way to show that oil drilling in Alaska caused this.

And, people laugh at the notion of having duct tape and plastic sheets on hand in case of emergencies.

Bush warned Obama that this might happen and he did nothing to stop it... clearly it is Obama's fault. ;)

Take that, Bobby Jindal. Volcano monitoring isn't so stupid after all, huh?

So, what's the latest?

And anybody watching the Yellowstone buildup?

Any potential interconnectivity?

And anybody watching the one under Naples, Italy? That one will be a major catastrophe.

Volcanos aren't very predictable, geologists can usually estimate a time frame for the next eruption but that can usually span centuries. Hence the need to, at least, monitor active volcanos near population centers, such as Mt. Saint Helens and Mt. Rainier.

Yes, people are watching Yellowstone, but it probably won't erupt anytime soon, despite what the Discovery Channel would have you believe.

Mt. Redoubt is not a big or major volcano, just one that is close to people. The geologic principles that formed yellowstone and Mt. Redoubt are different. Yellowstone is formed by a thinning of the crust due to a giant cavern filled with magma beneath the surface called a "Hot Spot" (Think of Yellowstone as a landlocked version of Hawaii). Mt. Reboubt is formed where magma bubbles up to the surface due to the subduction of the Pacific tectonic plate under the North American plate.

Yes, they are watching Mt. Vesuvius very closely. But then again Italy doesn't have moronic politicians that say that volcano monitoring is stupid (That's aimed at you, Gov. Jindal)
