I'm trying to setup an extra pc as a Linux/Samba file server for my windoze machines.
Installed Ubuntu (8.10) w/Samba ok.
I plugged in a Simpletec 80gb "pocket" drive (formated in NFTS) with some photos on it to test before plugging in the 500 gb USB drive which will be the main server drive, along with a second 500gb drive which will be used for backup.
After plugging in the drive, it showed up just fine - I was able to access the photos on the Linux box.
Did not configure Samba/file shares yet.
Last night I had to pull the drive to access some photos for my kid's school project, and [obviously] did not unmount the drive correctly, because when I plugged it back in it would not mount, and gave me some message to that effect.
Questions ....
What is the correct way to plug in / unplug a usb drive (esp an NFTS drive)?
Is there any way to "clean up" the previous [incorrect] pulling of the drive so I can remount it?
