Former WABC radio news anchor George Weber was found dead inside his Brooklyn apartment this morning after failing to report to work for two days, sources told The Post.

Weber, who would have turned 58 tomorrow, was discovered in his bed shortly before 10 a.m. today with multiple stab wounds to his neck after his bosses, concerned that he hadn't shown up for work, called cops.

Police sources said they believed Weber had been murdered some time on Friday evening.

"It's tough to imagine things like this happening in our neighborhood," said one neighbor, who did not identify himself. "It's really unsettling."

There were no signs of forced entry, but a police source said the bathtub spigot was running and neighbors said the apartment had been ransacked.

According to his web site, Weber was a news anchor for the talk radio station for about a decade, before he was let go last year.

Since then, he has worked for ABC News, which provides national network news to stations across the country, including WABC.

His blog contained an entry dated Friday, recounting several unpleasant encounters with bedbugs in his apartment, and lauding Mayor Bloomberg for setting up a Bed Bug Advisory Council last week.

A source said police initially visited the building this morning at 1 a.m., but got no answer and did not want to break the door down. When they returned nine hours later, a neighbor guided them to a side door Weber kept unlocked.

OMG! can't believe some of my favorite radio personalities like paul harvey & george weber from the time WABC talk radio was rising have now passed. but still shocked with how george weber passed on. what kind of sick piece of brooklyn **** would do that.

I've been recently having bouts of nostalgia when WABC newstalk radio was the best all around with curtis, kuby, gambling, simone, sean, levin, etc... this incident with george weber is unsettling to say the least & will closely follow this case.

sigh.

Carroll Gardens is a pretty safe neighborhood too, when I was growing up it was pretty much a mix of mafia and hard working families and was very safe, now it's turned into something like a Soho/Greenwich Village type area and it's still safe, and those brownstones are over a million dollars.

And they didn't mention Noodles in the article, I hope his dog/dogs (I thought he had 2 at 1 time) are OK.

I thought about it being possibly a robbery, but he was found in his bed. Wouldn't it be unlikely that a burglar would just kill someone if they were more than likely going to be able to get out undetected?

WABC'S GEORGE WEBER STABBED IN B'KLYN APT.

Former WABC Radio newsman George Weber was found murdered in his Brooklyn apartment yesterday after failing to report to work for two days, sources told The Post.

Weber, who would have turned 48 today, was discovered half-naked in his bed shortly before 10 a.m. inside his apartment with his throat slashed and more than a dozen stab wounds to his neck.

His hands and feet were bound with duct tape, sources said.

There were no signs of forced entry at Weber's apartment on Henry Street in Carroll Gardens, sources said. The bathtub spigot was running and the place had been ransacked, said one source, who described the home as "a bloody mess."

Detectives were investigating the possibility he knew his attacker.

His bosses, concerned that he hadn't shown up for work, had called cops.

Police sources said they believed that Weber, who began at WABC in 1996 and was a regular on the "Curtis & Kuby" program, was killed on Friday night.

"George lived his whole life as a high-profile newsman, and to the best of my knowledge never made a single enemy," said lawyer Ron Kuby, one of the cancelled show's co-hosts.

Curtis Sliwa said Weber used his beloved Dachshund, Noodles, as an icebreaker to score interviews.

"The guy was fearless," said Sliwa. "Him and Noodles would pursue a story no matter where it was."

Weber contributed to a show Mayor Bloomberg did on WABC. "George was the kind of professional who could give you the news and his views without one getting in the way of the other," Bloomberg said.

Weber was let go last year, but landed at ABC News, which provides national network stories to stations across the country, including WABC.

"He always said he had the best job in the best city in the world," said Mike Caragliano, who worked with him in the studio.

God, I hope they find the SOB who did this.

ETA: Just saw this at the Daily News:

Longtime New York radio newsman George Weber was found stabbed to death in his Brooklyn apartment Sunday morning, cops said.

The bloody body of Weber, a passionate fan of the city who spent a decade doing local news on WABC morning radio, was found just after 9 a.m. when he didn't show up for work.

"I used to hear his voice in the top and the bottom of the hour. It's a voice New Yorkers know. Now that voice has been silenced," said Aaron Katersky, 33, an ABC colleague who found himself covering a friend's murder.

Weber, 47, was freelancing at ABC's national radio network after being laid off last year.

Cops believe Weber was killed Friday evening. He was found in bed with stab wounds in the neck and chest, cops said.

Police were investigating the possibility he was killed by a male date.

There was no sign of forced entry to his first-floor brownstone apartment on Henry St. in Carroll Gardens, cops said.

The front door was locked, but a back door was unlocked. The apartment had been ransacked, though it was not clear what, if anything, was taken.

The murder weapon was not recovered.

Weber would have celebrated his 48th birthday Monday.

Curtis Sliwa, who did a 5 a.m. "pre-show" with Weber for eight years at WABC before the regular "Curtis & Kuby" morning show, called his death "a tremendous loss."

"News ran through his veins and arteries 24 hours a day," Sliwa said.

"He wasn't a rip-and-read newsman. He wanted to be there," he said. "And you know what his trick was? He'd pack up his dog, Noodles, a dachshund, and walk him there. People would see the dog, they'd pet the dog, they'd get a level of comfort with him. And then he could get them to talk."

Noodles died a few years ago.

Weber told the Daily News last year that he had turned down a job in California because he didn't want to leave New York.

"Brooklyn's my home. I like being the news guy here," he said.

Calling himself "the news guy," Weber maintained a lively blog. His last entry, a rant about his battles with bedbugs, was posted Friday.

He made his daily visit to his regular bar, the Blarney Rock on W, 33rd St., as usual on Friday afternoon.

"He seemed fine," said the waitress who saw him.

Patrons and staff at the bar, where Weber was such a fixture that his picture hangs on the wall, were stunned to hear of his murder.

"He was like family here," said weekend manager James Donovan. "George Web, dead? I can't believe it. He was one of the sweetest guys I've ever met."

Waitress Andrea Tierney was baffled. "He didn't have any enemies. None at all," she said. "Who could want to kill him?"

Wow, some people in the comments section of the Post were asking if this could possibly be a gay lovers spat. I assume they asked that because of how brutal the killing was and how a woman wouldn't have the strength to do it. He was going out with a woman a few years ago from what I remember though. Either way it was horrible. :(

The tributes have been really nice, from Curtis to Ron to John Gambling etc.

Veteran ABC Radio newscaster George Weber has been found dead in his Brooklyn, N.Y., apartment in what police believe was a homicide.

Police responded to a missing person call at 9 a.m. Sunday and found Weber, 50, in his apartment with a wound to his neck, according to a police report. Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and pronounced him dead.

An investigation into Weber's death is ongoing and no arrests have been made.

"We are shocked and deeply saddened by the death of our colleague and friend George Weber who was the victim of what police have deemed a homicide at his home in Brooklyn," said Steve Jones, vice president and general manager of ABC News Radio.

"An investigation has been launched by NYPD and we have been assisting them," he added. "Our condolences and prayers go out to George's family and friends at this very difficult time."

According to The New York Post, there were no signs of forced entry into Weber's apartment, but a police source said the bathtub spigot was running and neighbors said the apartment had been ransacked.

"George Weber was a lifelong fan of radio," Jones said in his statement. "He was a consummate journalist with a successful radio career in New York at WABC, Los Angeles at KTLK and KMPC, San Francisco at KGO radio and Denver at KOA radio, among others.

"While in New York, George was part of the highly successful 'Curtis and Kuby' WABC morning show where he remained until early 2008," Jones added. "It was then that he joined ABC News Radio as a freelance anchor. His last newscast was on Sunday, March 15."

Weber's blog (http://georgeweberthenewsguy.blogspot.com/) was last updated Friday morning with a post detailing his past bouts with bed bugs and praising Mayor Bloomberg for creating a Bed Bug Advisory Council.

WABC radio newsman found stabbed to death
Killer's blood at home of newsman
A 16-year-old confessed to stabbing WABC newsman George Weber during a drugged-up date with the older man, police sources said Wednesday.

The emotionally disturbed teenager was arrested early Wednesday morning after he admitted to cops that he had answered an ad Weber placed on the Internet looking for a partner in rough sex, police and law enforcements sources said.

"He saw the victim's ad looking for violent sex and said "I can smother somebody for $60" but it got out of hand," a source said.

The teen admitted he stabbed Weber, but couldn't remember how many times because he "blanked out" during the violent, drug-fuelled assault. The teen was in custody this morning at Brooklyn's 76th Precinct.

Cops found the suspect by combing through Weber's e-mail and Web browser history and tracking calls he made from his cell phone, sources said.

The teen answered Weber's ad on craigslist, an Internet Web site. The two met in Brooklyn early Friday evening and then returned to the newsman's Carroll Gardens brownstone apartment under the premise of engaging in sadomasochistic acts, sources said.

Weber, whose ankles were bound with duct tape, was stabbed repeatedly in a frenzied attack that sprayed the walls with blood.

The newsman fought back and wounded his assailant, whose blood was found in the bedroom and bathtub drain, the sources said. Cops believe Weber's killer tried to clean up before fleeing the Henry St. home.

Weber, 47, had been writing a neighborhood blog and was freelancing for ABC's national radio network after he was laid off from his job doing local news on WABC morning radio. His body was found Sunday morning.

"We are devastated by the loss of George - Jordy to us," the veteran newsman's family said in a statement Tuesday. "He was truly a caring person who loved and was loved by all he met.

"Jordy loved New York and its people, particularly his Carroll Gardens neighborhood. The outpouring of support by his friends and neighbors is a blessing to us and a testimony to his character."

A memorial service for Weber is in the works. Arrangements have not been finalized, the family said.

I'm just stunned. George Weber hooks up with a 16 year old he found through a craigslist ad for violent sex. The drugged up kid kills him.

Perhaps this is the George Weber the public did not know.

(I suppose I should not be stunned... not in this world anyway.)

Yea, no one deserves to die this way. However, he majorly put himself in harm's way. And he was committing a crime. My bet is that this was not the first time he hooked up with a young teen. If he had lived he should have been convicted and spent years in prison.

Goes to show ya how easy it is for a person to hide their underbelly of their life from the general public.
