WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama (http://www.reuters.com/news/globalcoverage/barackobama) hit back at former Vice President Dick Cheney's criticism of his policies on terrorism suspects, saying Cheney's approach had brought the United States scorn instead of security....
"How many terrorists have actually been brought to justice under the philosophy that is being promoted by Vice President Cheney? It hasn't made us safer. What it has been is a great advertisement for anti-American sentiment," Obama said, according to excerpts released by CBS on Saturday.
The statement that bothered me the most is where Obama says, "What it has been is a great advertisement for anti-American sentiment."
Obama seems more concerned about how America's approval rating with the rest of the world versus doing the often unpleasant task of doing what we need to do to protect our national security.
How do the following policy changes make America safer than the Bush/Cheney administration:
* Announcing the closing of Gitmo on 1st day in office
* Waits 30 days to greet our troops, but on first day in office calls Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas whose people danced in the streets to celebrate 9/11
* Sends two checks to Palestine. First, 20 million dollars, and then, 900 million dollars.
* Eliminates the word "enemy combatant" and changes "War on Terror" to "man-caused disaster"
* Attempts to change health care for our combat veterans
* Speaker of the House Pelosi calls ICE un-American for protecting our soveriegn borders.
* Appeals to Iran for friendship in a manner of communication that Iran & the middle east perceives as weakness...and is mocked for it.
I am sure I have overlooked many more examples in my haste to post...please feel free to add.

The number brought to justice has been in the thousands, TOTUS. They were arrested, tried, and sentenced to death on the battle field.:)) I am sure they are enjoying their 72 virgins much more than they would enjoy a jail cell.

What bothers me most is that Obama seems genuinely more concerned about America "being liked" & "being popular" on the world stage. This perfectly mirrors Obama's narcissistic attitude and his preference to be in permanent campaign mode rather than doing the hard work of making decisions that may be unpopular but which protect our national security.

I think he wants to return to the Clinton way of fighting terrorism, in the courts.

Maybe Boooooosh and Cheney should have made and sent cowardly video messages to terrorist countries. It would have kept us safer since 9/12/2001.

Good Post. I knew there were a lot of Obama policies that seemed anti American to me and more geared toward making friends with those who want us dead. Seeing it all written down in a list is rather scary. And yes we have not been attacked since 9/11. Either he does not know that this "please be my friend" routine is looked at as weak or something more sinister is going on. Either way we are in a heap of dodo.
