Supposedly the shooter has also been shot, condition unknown.

The coroner has been called in, don't know who for.

Prayers to the families. :(

Damn, damn damn damn DAMN!

Oakland has been becoming still another butthole world of anti-civilization for a long time, now.

And it's getting a whole lot worse by the week.

A routine traffic stop -- with four men who were doing their jobs on the line because of a violent and hate-filled population who can't get the basic concept of every society through their thick aggressive skulls: VIOLENCE IS EVIL.

Why is that precept so flipping hard for people to comprehend?

God watch over the four Servants of Civility and over their poor wives and kids this night.

Wow. Oaklands mayor is a former 1960's liberal leftist radical.

That city from what Ive heard from officers who Ive met down in DC when I went to Police week is sinking, and it sinking fast.

RIP to those brave officers.

And people wonder why officers conduct themselves the way we do on carstops. Im not your friend, Im pulling you over for a traffic infraction, I dont have to smile, my safety is paramount.

End of discussion.

The gunman was identified as Lovell Mixon, 27, Oakland. He was wanted for a parole violation for previous assault with a deadly weapon, Jordan said.

From another article, Oakland is full of your typical ghetto savages.
About 20 people taunted police near the scene of the first shooting. Tensions between the community and members of the police department has been high since the New Year's Day shooting of an unarmed man by a BART police officer. A protest following that deadly shooting lead to a violent and fiery protest in the streets of Oakland.

Taunting police after after multiple officers are shot. Some cities are like ****ing third world countries in this country.

I was just at a LEO messageboard I post at. Supposedly you have 2 motorcycle cops shot during a carstop, DOA on scene. Anonymous tipster says perp is in apartment at apartment building hiding. Swat goes into building, goes into apartment, goes to clear the closet, and the perp starts shooting through the closet door, hits two swat members, DOA, hits a third swat member who returns firing killing perp. So if we're to go from the reports im getting, you have 4 cops dead, 1 injured, 1 doa perp.

When you get someone like Dellums who is adversarial with the police department...don't get me started. He's pitifully useless as a mayor. Needed a new paycheck after his terrible career in Sacramento. Howdy Doody would do better.

Sad but true and it's been going downhill for years. It used to be a decent place, despite it's press. I"ve known lot of OPD over the years. They started bailing in the early 90's...

I don't wonder. Only someone who doesn't know what you do, would.

Somalia, USA?

There is NO EXCUSE for people to be raised to value SLAUGHTER AND DESTRUCTION -- and DAMN the hides of those who destroyed a sweet baby boy, to turn him into a MONSTER, having failed to teach him the difference between brutal savagery and a MAN worth a damn to the rest of humanity.

SHAME ON OAKLAND. SHAME AND DISHONOR AND SCORN for all who failed to stop this crime YEARS AGO.

And what's most disgusting is the fact that there are thousands more Dead Men Walking in this country -- corrupted and abused BY A SOCIETY THAT FAILED TO TEACH CHILDREN the difference between living like vicious animals driven by gut instincts and hyper-emotionalism and human beings who CONTROL their urges with logic and compassion and RESPECT for the sanctity of ALL human life -- especially the lives of cops and troops and other HONEST men and women who work to "provide for the common defense."

we just had an officer shot in the line of duty in small town South Dakota.

Just in the last month or so people in my town are getting more and more uncooperative with Law Enforcement. Respect for officers is declining, making our jobs more dangerous.

It just seems to be getting worse fast.

And it isn't just the life threatening stuff, but also the hands on fights with people that result in little injuries here and there, wearing you down.

It just seems to be getting worse fast. Probably worse than it has been recently........but these things are cyclical.

The WORST years in US History for law enforcement assaults and fatalities was the 1970's......the single WORSE year was 1973, with 134 officers murdered in the line of duty in the US.

http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/homicide/leok.htm
http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/homicide/tables/leoktab.htm

For various reasons, including better training and equipment, that number has steadily declined since. Even though there have been occasional slight up-ticks in that rate, nothing ever remotely approaching the bad old days.

In my 12 years on the job my experience has been that we fought more people in the late 1990's than we do today.......but those things change more based on location to location than any kind of national trend. Areas experience increases and declines based on local demographic shifts and other variables.

Praying for the officers killed and the one on life support and all their families.

Oakland is a crap hole.

But there must be something redeeming about it if such honorable men are willing to die enforcing the law there.

One would think anyway.

It rips me up when I read about officers killed in the line of duty.

Cant help but wonder if the restraints on police force were reduced to reasonable levels would these men have been killed.

Man, what their families must be going through.

Do we have any memorials to our killed peace officers?

Some individual departments do. In Oakland, it used to be the marble wall when you first walked in. Covered in names. Don't know if it's been remodeled, but that is what is used to look like.

And there is one in DC: http://www.nleomf.org/TheMemorial/memorial.htm

I don't live too far from Oakland and I will never go there. I avoid it like the plague. It's probably more dangerous than Iraq.

Bless the officers and families in this terrible time. This is a terrible loss of good men.

Oakland is a nasty place. FAM said it straight: this low-life was one of the ghetto savages living in punksville, USA. Damn town will probably light candles at the site where the murderer died and protest the police station in outrage.

A Culture of Death and Destruction that takes beautiful children and teaches them the WILL TO DESTROY by teaching them to hate themselves and everyone around them.

I want to weep for every single child trapped in that Culture of Death, even now learning to be KILLERS, already dead in heart and mind, doomed to die in body as slaves to the Will to Kill and Destroy.

Just read on KPIX's site that the AP is reporting from a statement from the father of the officer on life support that he's brain dead.

Btw, I find it also tragic that they all write about the taunting of the police by the public, but the media hasn't tracked down the citizen that gave that same said officer, CPR to acknowledge the good deed that he did. A citizen tried to help and he was only a one-liner in a stray article.

Now THAT is a MAN who rose above himself, drove himself to POSITIVE and CONSTRUCTIVE response in defiance of "I can't help it" dependency on others.

That's a person I'd value in my own part of the world, a citizen worth having around.

Well we all know who the majority of the media is filled with, so thats really not a surprise.

A true one of a kind human being in that environment...and is deserving of praise imo. But he won't get it...heck, we may even read how someone has shot him for helping said officer. :wall:

Oakland is a living dichotomy; Well to do multi million dollar manor homes set in lush green hillsides on one side...Contra's 3rd world ghettos on the other. One wrong turn off on the 880 and you'll find yourself in the middle of a zoo.

Oakland ghettos..and I don't use the word lightly, imo, are more sever then the ghettos of East LA or South LA. It's like a 3rd world country down there in some parts. And not the friendly helpful villagers type of 3rd world places....but more the type of place that you can get shot in for looking at someone wrong or being the wrong color. :wall:

Jerry Brown, like his predecessor, Harris, and now Dellum, have taken down this once thriving town with their "African American Polices & Empowerment" campaigns. It's brought the place to it's knee's. Tax revenues that once came in through local business has dried up, leaving not only a money hole, but has left the public school system in shambles. Ramshackle shells of what they once were. Fewer and fewer home owners are left to pick up the tab..with most of the population in subsidized housing. I don't know what the local government thinks they are doing...but you would think three generations of this stuff would be a wake up call to those who pull the strings.

I won't even drive down the 880 anymore...I use the 80 to 580 or 680 to get around the area...or not go down to the Bay area at all.

Sad to say the least.
