I have a friend that uses it and likes it a lot.

Haven't used it personally.

I think most issues that people have had with it (from what I've read) are software related or users not really knowing how to use it.

Most cable companies offer unlimited long distance/puerto rico phone service.

I know cablevision here offers phone service, unlimited, long distance/puerto rico plan for as low as 29.95 a month.

Check out your local cable provider.

I've tried it and it works but is not remarkable.
We live in a rather remote, to technology area, and everything was long distance. I rather wanted a landline for 911 as we didn't want expensive contracts for cells. Now, though we got a cable bundling service.
So, all in all, it works. But, we chose another option.
