And with that, BG fans, the saga comes to an end.

The Galactica, it's back broken and bones twisted, crewed by a single being, leads the now unoccupied ships of the fleet to their honorable demise. Their occupants of four years, the survivors and cylon allies, left behind to start totally new on Earth some 150,000 years before our time.

Having abandoned the comforts of technology, and carrying only the clothes on their backs, they scatter throughout the Earth.

Friends, comrades, and even father and son separate, unlikely to ever have the means to find each other again.

An emotional ending to a captivating ride.

There's to be a spin off series, 'Caprica' though.......

Fantastic ending - exactly how it should have gone.

I really like how they brought it all back to the premise of the original series at the end - and the music as well.

I did not like it, after losing so many why separate from those closest to them?

I did not like it, after losing so many why separate from those closest to them? That did seem a bit strange........however, it also seemed to be the will of the higher power within the series.

Ultimately the show is allegory........and while I thoroughly enjoyed the show, the allegorical message is fundamentally flawed........but the presentation of that allegory is true art.

I did not like it, after losing so many why separate from those closest to them? That was the emotional part of it.

Beginning a new life devoid of pretty much everything from the previous life.

The people, the tools, the society, all gone.

Could any of us do that?

The 1st hour was worth watching...the 2nd hour was pointless.

Should have cut during the shot of the fleet heading into the sun.

It was fantastic! The second best finale to series ever.

I wonder what happened to the centurians and the last Basestar.

A sad day I knew would come.

I told my wife, "I knew Starbuck was an Angel! No mortal woman is that beautiful".

One more question.

Ellen stated that she was married to Tigh for over 2000 years.

So are the last 5 (well 4 now) still alive and if so did the other "skinjobs" survive?

I think they developed resurrection that kept them alive.....but i'm not sure.......but when the previous apocalypse happened, I think I remember them saying they uploaded......because several of them remember being near the blast.

Same here, if the final five developed resurrection that would explain why only 5 survived the nuclear blast. I'll have to go back and watch I tivo'ed the last 10 episodes including the last special.

I did. Perhaps because I was the only one in the room old enough who actually watched the original series (my wife never watched it). :))

We were talking before the finale and wondering how they could possibly wrap it up in a satisfying way. I'm glad they did and I like the reference to Hera being Mitochondrial Eve (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitochondrial_Eve)in the last scene. I honestly did *not* see the fact that they were 150,000 years behind us coming.

I thought the final frackking episode was as bad as the entire series was. Extraordinarily lame writing.

Case in point were Kara was shown in a flashback as the happy homemaker acting like a Stepford Wife where in the first episodes, as she was introduced to the audience as Starbuck, the gruff female version being like the original smoking, drinking, gambling, cussing fighter jock. Why?

In the words of the producers, head writer/director whatever; “Who gives a damn about the plot…it’s the characters that matter”. This is the reason why Galactica was as bad as it was.

The whole two hours was mainly a commercial for their upcoming new and spin-off series’ to come.

I was hopeful when I heard the rumors of a Battlestar Galactica movie that would hold to the original premise and thought it would be interesting to watch. But, then I heard it was the same NBC/Universal people that were trying to get the rights to it to make the movie.

I’ll pass.

I haven't watched the series, but what do y'all think of the Luddite aspect at the end (http://econlog.econlib.org/archives/2009/03/you_will_know_t.html#comments)?

I agree.
Special effects aside, which where awesome, the show was just plain bad.
Unless of course it was the intention of the writers and producers to portray all humanity as basically sucking. We suck now, we sucked then, we will suck in the future, well then they got their point across.
I felt the tone and writing of the originol series, while campy compared to today, to be a much better show.

Doing shots until you can barely talk and then attempting to bang your boyfriend's brother while he's passed out three feet away is a "happy homemaker" in your book? I need to hang out at your house!

The writers were trying to show that while she was a always a bit on the wild side, the death of Zack Adama due to her letting her personal feelings get in the way of her professional judgement changed her into the rage machine that she was at the beginning of the series. She then spent the rest of the series struggling with those differing personality traits.

Personally, I feel that BSG had some of the best writing of any show on television. The writers did an excellent job bringing the story back to the premise of the original series - i.e. life on our planet began "out there". It was fitting tribute.

Well, a happy homemaker can be a nymphomaniac, too.

But, then we’re supposed to believe she’s an angel that guided the rag-tag fugitive fleet to the “real” Earth. That’s a stretch even for Science Fiction.

Sci Fi is repleet with "angel" type characters - remember Obi Wan Kenobi, Yoda, and Anniken Skywalker became "angels" in Star Wars.

As for Starbuck, I'm not sure I'd call her an angel. I think of her more as a being that was created by the higher power to serve a specific purpose. Once that purpose was achieved, she no longer needed to exist.

Oh yeah. Gias Baltar and his blonde vision were gods, too. And…the real Gais had a harem. AND...a radio talk show! :))
