I personally was hoping they would show up at our Earth, our time.
The ending was a bit lame mainly because it was somewhat predictable. Yet it was still captivating knowing that in the end, they were all left to a primitive life, abandoning all the comforts they have known.
The good guys won. The story concluded.
It could've ended much worse.

What happened? I missed it!
Explosions. Collisions. Humans, skinjobs, and toasters got dead. Brief hope for peace. Truth. Rage. Nukes.
Flashbacks showed us how key players fell into place.
There was no real shock value to the ending, I think that's what left the op so unfulfilled.

They ignored one basic piece of wisdom, those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it.

They ignored one basic piece of wisdom, those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it. I don't think they ignored it.......that seemed to be the point of the whole series........that and the unending cycle of history.

my God. what a terrible ending.
I can't think of a worse way to end a series. I felt that way at first.......but, then, the more I started thinking about it.......the more I realized it really couldn't end any other way.
The ending certainly didn't feel contrived, as some endings do......it felt as if they had this in mind all along.
I did think the flash forward 150,000 years to the present was a nice touch.
At any rate, this whole version of the series seems inspired by the monologue at the beginning of the FIRST series.......'There are those that believe that life here, began out there........'

I remember reading something once, said that all great works of literature could be captioned in ten or fewer words (maybe it was twenty words) - as in, "Danish prince feigns madness to avenge his father's murder."
As with "Lost", I thought the first season of BG was okay. And then it spiraled into incomprehensibility. It became a chore to watch. It became "Lost. In Space." And I just gave up.

...and, for the record, she's still the most attractive woman to ever set foot on a Battlestar.

Saw a few of the "new" Battlestar episodes and I still like the original more. http://blog.wired.com/geekdad/images/2008/09/29/battlestar_galactica.jpg

My final rating for the series: 3 out of 5 stars.
A good show, but it delved too much into mysticism especially towards the end.
- I was a bit annoyed that of all the characters they chose to connect the show with our reality, they chose the angels (?) of Baltar and Six, the two characters whose actions set events in motion for the fall to occur.
- Nice touch with the musical salute to the original series as the fleet headed off towards the sun.
- It's hard to compare the two versions of the series, given the glaring differences in the storylines. They were alike in theme only.

Yes, they could have had Odama sitting down and eating on the Battlestar with the battle to take place the next day and then given us nothing but a black screen.

The original women of Battle Star were pretty...but come on...Tricia Helfer...the tall blond that played Caprica 6...what a gorgeous creature she is! No man would throw her out of his bed for eating crackers!

I was terrible that a Jimi Hendrex song lead them to Earth.
It was boring watching utterly useless flashbacks to Caprica. Wait until the FINAL episode for character development? It was like they had unused tape and and had this burning desire, nay, obsession to air it for some reason.
So now - Jimi Hendrix conjours up messages from the past. OK.
I am sorry - no society willingly will go from toilet paper and heating to a survivor island with a suitcase, or less.
The angels - stupid.
So tha Japanese are leading us to the next armageddon. Ok - that I believe, they are crazy.
Starbuck being an angel - even dumber.
The sequel? - the Cyclon robots come back to attack present day Earth?

Beej, you appear bitter
Wait until the FINAL episode for character development?
You have a point there. But they were able to fill in the blanks without sacrificing the important events of the final battle.
I am sorry - no society willingly will go from toilet paper and heating to a survivor island with a suitcase, or less.
I'm guessing that after 4 years, let alone a hasty escape from New Carpica, the Charmin had long ago become a precious memory. And after all that time in those confined tin cans, such an idea may not sound so bad. The resources were running out anyway.
The angels - stupid....Starbuck being an angel - even dumber.Hence my 3. I would've preferred she turned out to be a cylon. And exactly how did Baltar and Six become 'angels' anyway?

Sorry beej, but it was a fantastic ending - and all from critics to fans agree.
Just because you didn't like the show in general doesn't mean it's a bad ending.
Frankly, I'm at a loss as to how else it could have ended - the fleet aimlessly wandering through space with no resolution? Gee, that would have been fun.

If this is about the SciFi remake... Only watch the first 30 min and file13 it... was not worth my time..tomany changes that change the whole plot from what i watch back in the day.

Your loss.
Comparing the two versions is apples vs oranges.
Technically, this was one of the best television series ever produced. The visuals, the casting, the music, were as good as it gets.

I gave the ending a 3.5 out of 5.
There were plenty of things to like about it, such as the *final* showdown between the Colonials and the Cylons near the heart of a black hole singularity. The space battle was awesome. And while I understand much of the disappointment about the lack of details regarding Kara/Starbuck's return and the nature of the head Six/Baltar, I believe its all part of the reimagining of the "Ship of Lights" concept from the original series.
The revelation of Earth 2.0 wasn't bad to me either. As someone pointed out earlier, its consistent with the concept in the original series about life beginning "out there" with a twist. The only problem I have with it is the idea that this is 'our' Earth, since modern Earth shows little evidence of buried 'alien' artifacts. And wouldn't the bodies of the Colonials reveal a physiology much more advanced than the prehistoric humans of that period?

I have to jump in and just say I watched the ending for the second time today.
Loved it.
I really don't think it could've been done a "better" way. It left questions, yes. But that is part of the package-life is a mystery, and no matter how much we try to resolve or rationalize things there are always segments to life that we cannot fully explain.
I find that the last season of this program has been my favorite. All the twists, turns, and unpredictableness of what's going to happen. I was worried that the final episodes would get too complicated or a big let down. They weren't-at least for me.
I think this was a great ending to a great series. I liked the original series as a kid, and I like this rendition even better as an adult.
Heh-must be the sci-fi geekette in me. :)

Nah...she looks too much like a...cylon. The best beauty modern plastic surgery can buy. Besides, I like brunettes. Although curiously, I've never had the opportunity to date one as all the ones I've come across that I thought were attractive were already involved.

I was dissapointed that Kara and Apollo didn't end up together, but the rest of the ending was a good save from a bad season.
