It happens to most parents. Sometimes right after a women finds she is expecting attention turns to what their child will be named. Parents may disagree but usually when the baby arrives they both have agreed on a name. The most popular names vary by geographic location and time. At present in Alaska William and Madison top the list. However if you lived in Wisconsin you would find Ethan and Ava to be the most popular. According to Social Security the most widespread names are Jacob and Emily. Each name tends to have its own unique meaning. Kayla means "pure". The name of Pedro means "rock or stone". Does one suppose a name can influence whether or not our children are successful and socially acceptable? A New Jersey man is abusing the limits of parental rights by naming his son Adolph Hitler. One of his daughters is named Honszlyn Hinler and the other daughter middle name is "Aryan Nation". Daily attendance must be interesting at that school. I wonder if Barney has a birthday record for those names?
Over time some names have fallen out of favor. Back in Victorian days Herman and Mattie were common names. Mary and John topped the Victorian era. Whenever I hear Herman the Munsters come to mind. Way back when I was young Herman's Hermits had quite a following. Some experts recommend that parents shy away from names that are trendy. Two generations ago Britney was quite popular. Perhaps due to the fiasco with Spears that name is fallen out of favor. Experts advise parents to role play and try to imagine how your child will feel on the first day of school and at their first job. A name that is bizarre or has evil symbolism might lead to emotional scars at a critical time in your childs life.
At different times in our pasts we all have positive and negative feelings when we hear certain names. Those whom we have despised or loved in the past come to mind when we come across names that are similar. We may look fondly on someone even if we hardly know them based on warm feelings we have for another person with the same name in the past. No matter what names you prefer at some point in your life you will hear the name of one who is superior to all. That name is Jesus Christ. There is power in the name of Jesus. He is seated at the right hand of the father and he will be the judge of all the earth. He is your best friend and he offers his hand to all who will take it. At the name of Jesus demons tremble. No matter what dark valley you find yourself in there is a way out. If all starts with you speaking the name that is above all other names!
