I didn't know she was married to Liam Neeson. I've liked her since
seeing her in Parent Trap about a jillion times. Lots of good actors in
that family.

I read about this earlier today. Apparently, the accident wasn't really that bad, no blood or anything. She began to feel bad about an hour afterward, and then it just got worse. I send out my prayers for her and her family.

I guess that means my 11 years of telling Sonny Bono jokes have come to an end now.
There is a new skiing accident poster child for the 21st century now!

There is no evidence that her brain trauma was the result of the fall? Perhaps she just had a cerebrel bleed that caused her to fall.

Something about the fall was troubling enough to the instructors
that they took her back to the lodge to be checked out. Brain
injuries are tricky things. My husband took a fall, hit the crown
of his head...brain bleed, but thankfully recovered without any
serious effects. His hospital nurse said another young fellow had
had nearly the same injury, but he didn't make it.

This is shockingly horrible and tragic. Prayers and condolences to her family.
My guess is that she had either a cerebral event that caused the fall or the fall triggered a brain bleed from some sort of already preexisting condition, congenital or otherwise.
Either way it doesn't matter. It's just very sad.

http://www.upi.com/Entertainment_News/2009/03/17/Report_Natasha_Richardson_dead_at_45/UPI-37941237286961/
Report: Natasha Richardson dead at 45
NEW YORK, March 17 (UPI) -- Natasha Richardson died Tuesday, a day after suffering a head injury in a Canadian skiing accident, a source close to her family told OK!. She was 45.
The magazine said on its Web site that Richardson's loved ones decided to take her off life support Tuesday after she was declared brain dead.
"The family is devastated," the source told OK!
The British-born actress was the daughter of stage and film great Vanessa Redgrave and the late director-producer Tony Richardson. She also was the sister of actress Joely Richardson and the wife of Northern Irish actor Liam Neeson, her co-star in the 1994 movie "Nell."
She had two sons with Neeson -- 13-year-old Micheal and 12-year-old Daniel.
Richardson appeared in the movies "Gothic," "Blow Dry," "The Parent Trap," "Haven," "Maid in Manhattan," "Asylum" and "The White Countess." She won a Tony Award for her work in the Broadway revival of the musical "Cabaret."
"Batman Begins," "Schindler's List" and "Michael Collins" star Neeson can be seen in the current release "Taken."
He left the Toronto set of his movie "Chloe" immediately to fly to Montreal where his wife was hospitalized after her accident, a representative for the film told IrishCentral.com.
The New York Daily News said Neeson accompanied Richardson on the flight home from Montreal to New York where her family gathered Tuesday to say goodbye to the actress.
Richardson reportedly sustained her injuries while skiing on a beginner slope at a Quebec resort with at least one of her sons.

Apologies, now UPI changed their headline and said she's brain dead.
No idea why these news agencies report 1 thing then change it, you would think they had the info before they published it.

Skiing without a helmet is just plain stupid. I'm pretty good and don't fall very often but my helmet saved my head twice so far. Both times on pretty shallow slopes. They are very light and comfortable and are warmed than stocking caps.
We've had at least two from this area die on ski slopes this year. Skiing deaths are a pretty close held secret, probably only getting reported in teh victim's home town.
WEAR A HELMET!!!!

This news stopped me cold when I heard it yesterday afternoon. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. My family and I loved her in the new Parent Trap...and it's hard to think of her as gone.
I had no idea Vanessa Redgrave was her Mother...that poor woman...she's endured so much strife and sorrow in her life. I can't imagine what she's going through right now. As parents, we are always ready to go first....and it's beyond hard to have a child move on from this earth before you.
I don't know if an autopsy will be preformed...I imagine it will due to the young age Natasha was at time of her death. Perhaps we will know then if the fall during skiing or a separate and unrelated cerebral event caused her death. Either way, a horrible loss for her family and loved one's.
God keep you close Natasha...Rest in peace.

I don't know why but this has struck me as so very sad and almost feels personal (?), I am not even that terribly familiar with her but it has really bugged me.

Oddly, it has hit me in the same way and I can't explain why. Perhaps it's because the fall she took just seemed to be a run of the mill fall... it wasn't a violent accident. It reminds me of when Dale Earnhardt died.... his crash just didn't look that bad when compared to other crashes at Daytona.... it was just all the wrong circumstances happening at the fateful moment.

I feel the same way. I think for me it's because it seemed so minor what happened to her initially, how many of us banged our heads at 1 time or another? and by all accounts, this was just a minor fall, so how could it go from that to being brain dead within hours.
I also feel so bad because she has a couple of kids and they're still so young.

The absolute fragility of life. That is what makes it so precious. And she is near the age of many of us too. When we leave on a trip, vacation,to the store or work or just to sleep, we just don't know.

I got a concussion in 8th grade skiing and had to be ambluanced down the mountain all the way to Portland.
I think I'm done with skiing though, as my joints, cartilage, bone and tendons probably are not near resilient enough to absorb my many imminent wipeouts.
I'll just stick to rugby for my thrills.
