Just don't open the links if they are there and monitor your child's online activities.

It's a different world we live in today, than from my childhood days. Back then, if anyone wanted to see porn, you had to actively seek it out..now it comes to you all gift wrapped in your emails, your pop ups and unsolicited messages on your computer. Sad to say, even as young as 8, my sons have seen porn because as well as I tried to protect them, one "friend" from school told them about "this website" and lo and behold my innocent boys were exposed to porn. And I thought I was doing a good job protecting them!
I will pray and let me know what there is I can do as a concerned Youtube user to stop this kind of trash.

Just don't open the links if they are there and monitor your child's online activities. And that's really the bottom line. I don't let the kids go to a new site without going there first on my own without them in the room. I surely wouldn't leave them alone on a site like youtube
Trust but verify

The links are in profiles?? So it is not even videos that youtube hosts? No way should youtube be responsible for that. Monitoring your kids to make sure they are using the internet as a child should be is your responsibility alone.

Remember, not everything on the internet is bad. Of course it is your choice, but if you do not allow your children to use the internet they may very well be at a disadvantage to there peers as they grow up.

They are profiles on youtube, so youtube is responsible. I am guessing that they don't just allow people to put whatever links they want in, but that the sheer number of users makes it impossible to police every link in every profile. This is why, as you and others have said, it is ultimately the parents responsibility to monitor there children on the internet and not youtubes responsibility.

There isn't porn on youtube. The only thing I've seen when watching movies or videos there, if there's adult language or some nudity, then a screen comes up asking me to login.

ITA, youtube shouldn't be responsible for that. Besides, no 1 should click on a link if they're not sure what it is exactly, who know what can be put on your computer by clicking bad links.

The only pages my kids can access are Neopets, Noggin, and Playhouse Disney. When my son has to do homework, I'm right with him. (He had, in first grade, an assignment on Thomas Jefferson.) Everything else is completely blocked to them.

I was curious as I'd never seen such links on YouTube. So, I just went in and looked around for a bit. We are ardent YouTube users...and have never seen anything remotely linked to anything pornographic. But then again, we are not looking for it either. ;)
Perhaps the settings the OP uses does not filter out such content...and should go through his account on YouTube and ensure his settings match his viewing choices?
Just a thought...

Because neopets is awesome!

Would Sean allow porn links here on the forum?
After all, the porn itself isn't on the forum. It's just a link.
Or, would Sean take the high ground and ban such material? I guess we already know the answer.
Youtube restricts certain videos but not user profiles? Why? Is this similiar to the wink and nod that prostitutes get on craigslist?

Youtube has a system to report explicit content, there is a link to do so underneath every video. They do a good job at removing offensive material quickly. The OP's comment about them removing religious and conservative material is absolutely ridiculous.
If you are worried about your kids being exposed to objectionable content on the website, it is very easy to block the entire website by making a host file in windows. There are also free firefox plugins that block explicit or pre-defined websites.

Really? I posted a video once of myself basically expressing my conservative views, and the video was promptly removed. I wonder why?

Don't be "drawn in" by "provocative" pictures. Exercise some restraint, and keep your kids off the internetz.
