The PBS, Nature, Discovery, National Geographic channels all have provided some, what would have been, awesome pieces on global history, nature, and the climate. Unfortunately just about every single production they provide has the, seemingly obligatory, anthropogenic global warming message embedded throughout. Essentially, they ruin a great presentation with AGW propaganda garbage. To me, that is a tremendous shame.
Although I live in America I do subscribe to the Australian Geographic. With that subscription I also get the video series titled “Best of Australia” presented by Sorrel Wilby. Fantastic content, awesome photographic video, and ruined by the harping on anthropogenic global warming. Sorrel darling….. get a clue. I recommend for YOUR viewing and enlightenment a video titled “Australia: Land Beyond Time” produced by David Flatman and narrated by Alex Scott . Take the time to LEARN the geological history of Australia and that much you attribute to AGW is nothing new. They are conditions and cycles that, for the most part, pre-date man’s existence in OZ. It is available FREE online.
There is also a video out there titled “The Last Continent”. What could have been a valuable and interesting expedition and video is nothing more than a piece of AGW garbage propaganda. Donald Sutherland does the narration. A tremendous actor, but, he has always been an ‘Oddball’. It was quite irritating to hear him whine falsely claiming man’s destruction of Earth during the entire course of the video.
The staged expedition by the Sedna IV and its crew to create “The Last Continent” is a pathetic piece of propaganda. They winter in one of the warmest parts of the western Antarctica Peninsula; an anomalous area. No attempt is made to establish that conditions on the peninsula are not representative of the Antarctic continent as a whole. Sutherland’s scripted narration does not present any scientific fact. The only statement amounts to a claim that man is causing catastrophic warming in Antarctica.
During one scene they played off a separation between a Waddell seal pup and its mother as part of the damage caused by man to the environment. On the other hand, quite naturally, once they removed themselves from the close contact with the pup the mother returned and all was well. Idiots!
Two specific issues;
1) Preparation for and handling of rations: Either this was poorly planned or improperly executed. Most likely both. Then again, it may have been the ignorant planning for execution by the inept.
2) Mooring problems at the original location: I am uncertain if this was staged and planned or simply a demonstration of gross incompetence. As the scenario unfolded I quickly realized that their anchor point problems was due to a single point of stress. They should have, and could have corrected to, anchoring with duel points for each line to split the load.
Bottom line: “The Last Continent” is not a documentary…. that is unless the topic is a demonstration of incompetence and ignorance. It certainly and clearly fails to offer any fact of science.
