Ever see a team get a sudden slump during the season? They've got the perfect players, perfect coaches, and the perfect record, and then all of a sudden, they start losing games left and right?
Name ones that stick out to you.
For me, it was last year's Packers. I can't figure out for the life of me what happened to the defensive line the second half of the season, but they blew five games that they should have won.
In baseball, it's the Cubs-get to a playoff with great plays, and then drop the ball (sometimes literally) two years in a row when it's time for the wins to really count.

Notre Dame and Georgetown basketball this year come to mind. Both had big non-conference wins (Hoyas over Memphis, plus they beat UConn in the Big East opener, and the Irish beat Texas), then collapsed in conference play.

Wake falling apart as soon as we hit #1!!! We turned right around and lost to Va Tech and got clobbered by Miami. I don't know if we hit a real "slump" or not, but we sure didn't play like we're capable of for a while.

I am stunned that you picked Wake for this topic. ;)

Well it did seem like Wake went through a bit of a slump in January.

The Mets in 2007. Seven game lead... pfffft.
They were eliminated in an 8-1 home loss to the last place Marlins.
I can't stand the Mets, Shea Stadium was a glorified urinal, and John Rocker was dead on about New York Mets fans being degenerates. But I like the new park.

Yeah.... I watched an HBO documentary on it. Just terrible.
But what do you think causes those slumps?

David Duval from the PGA. He was a world beater for a couple of years, and then forgot how to play golf.

He had physical issues I believe. But yeah, that was one of the more bizarre rise and falls in modern golf for sure, and probably sports period. He looked like he was going to be a serious rival for Tiger over the course of their careers, but I guess not.

They were who we THOUGHT they were! That and the several all-star Vikings teams he successfully guided to being also-rans, while the front office let both Tony Dungy and Brian Billick get away.
