both with the original stock separate and a new stock. the number 1916 and a crown stamped over the chamber and a 5 digit serial number on the side. i put a NATO 5.56 round down the muzzle and it is loose and goes in all the way easily so i guess it's somewhere between 27 and 30.06 is my guess. the issue is i didn't find it first. A neighbor's boy did. the weapon is functional and in good shape except for some slight rust on the barrel exterior and looks like its missing the front and rear sights. needs two screws to secure the works to the stock. i think its a british enfield but not sure.

minus the scope. the wood is exactly the same. to include the front brass minus the sight leaf protector. though there is no evidence of the sight being broken, all that is up there is a metal block. probably what the actual sight was mounted on. that front brass cap is missing and there is a barrel cleaning rod screwed into the lower hole.

Holy cow...that's old and really cool. My brother is a collector. I've seen some pretty nice guns; although I'm no connessiour myself.

Best of luck with your new find. Do you think it'll shoot or would you even try it out? Just curious :)

the original wood is off and a new bastardized modern stock is put in. the original wood is intact except for a crack at the beginning of the upper right half of the hand gaurd. it has been electrical taped into place and none of it is missing. it has a lot of scratches and dents but not excessively so for something 70 to 80 years old.

Just curious :)the bore is clean on the inside and the moving parts all work properly. there is some superficial rust on the outside of the barrel from neglect. nothing serious. I've seen worse in weapons that were in the field for a year. not sure if the barrel is true and the rifling is good. but those grooves are big and robust. i don't think it would have any trouble firing. as i said the issue is the neighbor's kid got it and it is not in my possession. though i am offering 50 bucks for it. i can't believe his mom let him have the weapon but she knows he has it.

Oh, I see, I must've skipped the part about "not being in your possession" hmmm....well, I hope she sells it to you and thinks twice before she allows her son to keep it... Sounds like you certainly understand the mechanics of the gun as well as its worth; whether monetarilly or just as a collector...
I've seen some really old guns too. I couldn't even tell you the names of the guns that my brother has, but he tells me they do fire, but he doesn't use them, they're just on display. :)

To me, guns are definitely a work of art ~ they're not only a pleasure to look at, but also functional ~

nods. i think i will be able to get it. the kid will play with it until either the police take notice or his mom gets fed up and sells it. i am making it known i want it. hopefully that will be before he finds some "near fit" round somewhere and blows it up in his face or kills someone.

I sure hope you can get it. That will be a great long gun for your collection. Good day, my friend. That is a good weapon.....

me too. no way a mentally challenged kid needs a lethal weapon.

i wonder how long that little twit can go around the neighborhood aiming, cocking and dry firing that enfield before cops notice or he finds a rifle round from one of his friends and tries to fire it through that weapon.

Draw a crude picture of it, stuff it into the kids backpack, then tip off the school.

You'll have the rifle by evening.

Go to Afghanistan.

There are about 4 jillion of them there.
