I can't believe this is even being considered:

How about cutting back on some of the spending? Barry is even against it yet some Congressmen somehow think this is still a good idea.

The more I read about these politicians, the more I think this world is coming to an end. What is wrong with these people? The guy is a moron. I think we have way too much government. Ever visit a government agency? Ever witness how lazy a city garbageman is? Why not privatize everything, including the police and fire departments. Why even have garbage collectors on government payroll. Bid it out to Waste Management, Groot, or other scavenger service. Have limitation terms on how many bids a contractor can have so you give the next company a chance. These clowns are spending money like there is no tomorrow. I own a medium sized regional company and I downsized my payroll by helping certain trades like plumbers, electricians, and painters form their own company where they got licensed, insured, and bonded. I told them that they can work for me on a wholesale basis and if they have retail customers to go and go for it. It turned out great because I did not have the employee and payroll tax liability and I gave them a chance to further their careers by not just being tied to my company. I told them that I do not pay much but I always pay. They were really excited when they got contracts which was three times the amount I had budgeted for them. They always seem to come back to me because alot of times they got stiffed.

The only reason it's even being considered is because EU countries already have variations of it. Bottom line is that it's just another tax, and it's another one that hurts the middle class most - the folks that do most of the commuting.
On the commercial side, you're talking about every service business out there, and every trucking company or private hauler. Teamsters should be going nuts about this one.

Many environmentalists endorse it, saying that it would lead to less driving and less pollution.
So when Joe can't afford to drive to work and thus cuts driving to work out of his daily routine, I guess these environmentalists would also be in favour of the government paying Joe permanent unemployment benefits so that he can stay off the road and supposedly save a tree.

This is a sellout to the wacko-erviros. They do not like urban sprawl. they want you in a city so that the outland can remain pristine. The tax will cause many to leave the suburbs, forget their cars, and live happyly ever after in the city, while they increase the tax base of the city.

Let this be a lesson to everyone who watches what comes out of the Obama White House. These people are consummate liars. Obama says "a mileage tax will not be the policy of the Obama White House." Well, congress is going to go through with it anyway and undoubtedly, it will get signed. Go figure.

A tax on gasoline is a tax on mpg if you think about it. This miles driven tax is a stupid idea because for one, the government would have to track how many miles you drove and two, it doesn't differentiate high mpg from low mpg. Sounds like some politician doesn't understand the basics. This one goes in the dumb and dumber category.

Liberals already have passed laws to drive US automakers out of business because of their penance for popular trucks, and the liberals' wish to force us into 2-seat microcars that make gas mileage in droves, and nothing else. If it was Consumer Reports, the ratings would be this for a Pelosi Special microcar, since she wrote and passed using her policies this into law:
Starting / Engine Performance: Poor
Acceleration: Poor
Fuel Economy: Excellent - Check Mark
Routine Handling: Poor
Emergency Handling: Not Acceptable
Ride: Poor
Front Seat: Poor
Rear Seat: Does not exist
Servicing: Poor
Trunk: Poor
Bumpers: $5,000 of damage on bumper basher
Reliability: Excellent (it is kept by readers' subjective claims)
Liberals love the idea to worship Gaia.
