In last Sunday's paper I came across this article that tickled my Texas funny bone for situational irony; and, I had to share. It begins:
Not everyone is rolling out the welcome mat to Americans. Many Mexicans complain about the rapid growth of the American population in their neighborhoods, the threat they see to Mexican culture and language, and the possible drain on Mexico's inexpensive health care.

In San Miguel de Allende, the group Basta Ya is protesting the erosion of the language and the rising cost of living generated by the infusion of dollars into the local economy.

"The think Mexico, especially San Miguel de Allende, is an extension of their country," group member Arturo Morales Tirado said of the Americans who call San Miguel home. "It's not and won't be, no way."

The only difference is that in Mexico there is no Politically Correct compulsion within society to bow under to the Yankee dogs who refuse to assimilate into Mexican culture nor are there advocate groups to protect the Americans from the growing resentment. And those Americans are legal visitors to Mexico... They did not sneak south across the border in the dead of night to set up house keeping there.

Nothing about the benefits of having American greenbacks pumped into the local economy? And they actually mention the possible drain on their healthcare system? I've only known of Americans going across the border for cheaper meds and cheaper plastic surgery. That's not draining it. That's feeding it.

Unless, of course, it was previously cheap because the locals couldn't pay as much as expat Americans can. Now the market can bear a higher price.

This is pretty durn funny! Three Americans show up, they complain. They send millions and they complain if our borders aren't open enough.

Proof that people will bitch only if it directly affects them.

One only has to see how Mexico guards it's Southern border and see how it treats it's "undocumented" workers to see the hypocracy!
