Okay, the trade deadline just ended, season ends in a little over a month. Who do you think wins the cup?

Blackhawks. They're due, aren't they?
Anyone? They are one of the original six for crying out loud, don't they deserve the cup?
You all suck. :)

While many people have counted them out, folks should start taking notice of the Penguins. They are getting hot at the most opportune of times. if the last couple weeks is not just a fluke but is legitimately the beginning off a streak and if they can continue to play this way, they may go much deeper than anyone expected a month ago.

Personally, I'd love to see Jeremy Roenick hoist the cup but I think the Wings remain just a bit too deep for the Sharks and take the Western Championship in an epic, exhausting seven game match.
The problem for the Wings is that they are likely to then face a lightly-tested Devils in the finals. If Brodeur gets hot, he can win it for the Devils pretty much on his own; otherwise it's the Wings (or alternatively the Sharks) in 5 games.

The Wings goaltending has been problematic at times this season, still I think they can beat any team in the NHL in a seven game series. One thing that concerns me is travel. If they have to go to the west coast to play a lot of games like they did in 2007. They might be in trouble. Also watch out for those teams with elite goaltenders who get hot at the right time. We have all seen a netminder steal a series in the playoffs. A lot of people will be pulling for the Pens. The NHL has made Sidney Crosby their poster boy and him and Malkin are among the best duos in the NHL. If they both get hot at the right time, they could cause some trouble.
My prediction is the New Jersey Devils and the Detroit Red Wings. I think the Wings can best anyone in a 7 game series and I think Brodeur will stand on his head and steal a couple of series. Shanny will face his former team and we'll see a rematch of the 1995 Stanley Cup Finals.

The trade for Kunitz was a great one. We'll see how Pittsburgh does in the strectch, I can see them making the playoffs.

Pittsburgh is an interesting case. According to TSN, they are currently the #8 seed in the East, but they are tied for the 4th most wins in the east. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/standings/ I can see them causing some trouble in the East, but if they are the #8 seed I can also see them losing in the first round. I think NJ will be clearly the better team in their first round match and win that easily, then Brodeur will steal the next two series to get the Devils back to the Stanley Cup Finals.

Picking up Guerin was a fantastic move as well. At least in the short term and especially for what it cost us (at worst it was a 3rd round pick!). The rumor around Pittsburgh was that the Pens were looking to get Malone back, which would have been spectacular (a great player, born and bred in Pittsburgh, bleeds black and gold, he belongs here!). I am not sure what happened with that or why it fell through, but we get the same type of player in Guerin, just older and for 2 million dollars less in salary. If we could not have Bugsy back, then Guerin is a great substitute.

I think no one, not even the Penguins, has any idea of what they are going to do. They could play like madmen for the rest of the season and go deep in the playoffs, or they could go back to playing like they did for November, December, and January and not even make the playoffs.
It is very possible that they Pens will be that team this year. The one that got hot at just the right time and that no one really wants to play, and that rises there momentum deep into the tournament. But it is just as possible that they will fold in the first round in a soul crushing collapse leading to them being dominated in a short series.
And yeah, I am a lifelong pens fan, so take that as you will heh

The Pens are very intriguing, at least to me. I am curious as to how they will do in the playoffs.

I would love to vote Philly here, but I think we're (as usual) a goalie away. I like Biron and Nittymaki, but not enough to believe they're going to carry us to a Cup.
Detroit's the deepest team in hockey. SJ/DET is going to be an EPIC series in the West Final if it happens.

Wings. Nuff said.
(we have to make up for the Lions being so bad, so we have to reign supreme in hockey)
