First of all, keep in mind that I am NOT JUSTIFYING THIS LADY'S ACTIONS in any way. Calling 911 for this deserves prosecution.

Having said that, the store could have handled the incident better too. She paid for something. They didn't have it and wouldn't refund her money. (At least according to the article I saw.) They wanted her to take a substitute. "No refunds."

Good business owners and managers know that you never win an argument with a customer. If you "win" the argument, you lose the customer.

They should have given the lady her money back AND given her a complimentary soft drink for her troubles. As it stands now, she'll never go back to McDs again. Nor, likely. her family. Smart management could have made them fans for life (and her friends, by word of mouth), for the cost of a paper cup and 8 cents worth of soft drink syrup.

she must be the only person in America not ot have the police dept # programmed in her cell phone.
call the police number..not the 911 line.
if she had just called the cops..then this is a non story..

How is this political?

Well... if she knows how to use a cell phone... she probably knows how to use a Florida voting machine. Er... maybe not.

But that said, if she did vote... there is probably a 90+% chance she voted for Obama the Marxist.

Sooo.......

what? What if she voted for McCain/Palin?

Does that make her any less of an idiot? Or more of one? No to both! She's the epitome of idiocy!

But to the OP, this is a stupid woman who created a stupid situation. But her stupidity is not political, it's just that, stupid!

She called the police for the wrong reason. if the police should be called, its for their new commercial for their fish sandwich. That there HAS to be some sort of crime.

Give me back that fillet o' fish, give me that fish!!What if it were you hanging up on this wall? if it were you in that sandwich, you wouldn't be laughing at all!!!

She should have gone to Wendy's for chicken nuggets in the first place. They are much tastier.

I just listened to the phone calls out of curiosity.

McDonald's doesn't have the product and won't give her her money--that's stealing in my book. Money is tight for many people, and she probably can't afford to lose money on food that she doesn't want to eat.

How many of you know, off the top of your head, know the non-emergency number for the police?

Now, she shouldn't have used 911 that way. But McDonald's was ALSO wrong. They were stealing from her. And why didn't the first 911 dispatcher tell her the non-emergency number to call to check on the status of the police cruiser?

All of the articles I've seen made it sound like there was a hysterical lady calling 911 over and over again. She sounds frustrated and tired, but it didn't sound like anyone gave her any other options.

All 3 parties involved were wrong. McD's should have provided a refund, she should not have called 911, and the 911 dispatcher should have given her a non-emergency number to call or simply told her it was a civil matter, etc.

Anyone who politicizes this can't be much brighter than the parties in the story..........

Sooo.......

But you don't know that....so you felt the need to make a poltical issue out of a random citizen's stupidity, AND an argument based purely on speculation. Axe to grind?

Please, that is NOT the way an adult handles the situation. Would have been VERY VERY simple for her to get her ass out of the car, walk in to the establishment to ASK FOR THE PHONE BOOK, then call the authorities if she did indeed believe she was being stolen from. HOWEVER a store DOES have the right to refuse to refund and instead offer exchanges or merchandise vouchers, the policy is supposed to be posted however.

There is NO EXCUSE for using the 911 system for ANYTHING other than a real emergency, and that's the bottom line.

If you listen to the 911 call, the person she spoke to who said she couldn't have a refund, WAS the manager.

Than that's the end of it. If they offer her a rain check/replacement item/etc.. it isn't theft, and even if it was it's not a 911 worthy call.

Though I'd have thought if she was that insistent and frantic the manager would ahve given her a refund to get rid of her.

There is NO EXCUSE for using the 911 system for ANYTHING other than a real emergency, and that's the bottom line. She was already inside. Yes, she should have asked for a phone book. From her perspective, she thought a robbery was taking place. What number would you use during an active robbery? It's easy to look back on it and say, "Um... that's not what was happening..." The FIRST dispatcher could easily have said, "Please don't use 911 for non-emergency calls, Ma'am."
