"You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom.
What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them,
and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation.
You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."

If Dr (Rev) Adrian Rogers the pastor and a three-term president of the Southern Baptist Convention said then it must be true. I 'm not sure what Bible Rev Rogers was reading/preaching from but the one I read talks about helping the poor.

I have read the Bible... I cannot remember where it states creating a welfare state is helping the poor.
"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."
Not a Bible quote but closer to what is taught in the Bible than the agenda of creating dependancy on the government for your survival.

Making them dependent does not help the poor, it enslaves them.

If you're reading the Christian bible I can assure you it says NOTHING about the government helping the poor. The individual should help the poor which is why charitable contributions are tax deductible to encourage this. The idea that by forcing people to help the poor is a poor idea since the book of James says that this act shows faith...that is, when done purposefully by the individual for heartfelt reasons therefore both giver and taker gain something.
Next time don't try to use the bible as a weapon for something you know nothing about...silly lib:D
