Howdy folks..
Just wanted to let you know my MIL passed away. She was 64 years old. She left behind 3 children and 4 beautiful grandchildren she got to see grow up into little people.
last july, i posted that she was dx with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. She fought it hard for 8 months but it was just too much for her heart to handle.
She died on monday at 3pm in her son's arms. She was receiving hospice care at home.
cancer is a dirty skank. As such, i say we need to beat her ass....

My condolences to You and your your loved ones and your entire Families. May the Good Lord welcome this Lady from Her Home to His Home where funeral flowers and 'in lieu' of's aren't on anyones mind. (So I've heard tell anyways).
As was said in the Sir Charlie Brown thread by an ever intrepid OP;
DB,you are definitely an acquired taste. lol
We Irish enjoy and employ morbid proclivities in the celebration of the 'Passing On'. Grief is tough no matter how it is handled. Your Thread Title reminds me of a zany character from the 60's & 70's; Soupy Sales.
This quote from a Wikipedia Biograpghy on Soupy Sales sums it up a wee bit for me:
"New Year's Day incident
On New Year's Day 1965, miffed at having to work on the holiday, Sales ended his live broadcast by encouraging his young viewers to tiptoe into their still-sleeping parents' bedrooms and remove those "funny green pieces of paper with pictures of U.S. Presidents" from their pants and pocketbooks. "Put them in an envelope and mail them to me," Soupy instructed the children. "And I'll send you a postcard from Puerto Rico!" He was then hit with a pie.
Several days later, a chagrined Soupy announced that money was unexpectedly being received in the mail. He explained that he had been joking and announced that unreturnable contributions would be donated to charity. As parents' complaints increased, WNEW's management felt compelled to suspend Sales for two weeks. Young viewers picketed Channel 5. The uproar surrounding Sales' suspension increased his popularity.
Sales describes the incident in his 2001 autobiography Soupy Sez! My Life and Zany Times."
Methinks your MIL is looking down with some big smiles as She sees you're method of grieving for Her Passing. As Soupy learned; be careful what ya ask for, even in jest.
Be well in your grieving and the grieving of your Families,
Jim

My heartfelt sympathies and prayers, Darth.
May the LORD give her friends and family comfort in knowing she's having the time of her life now and forever more in His own Kingdom -- and give each of you what is needed to fill the holes she's left in your own lives here on earth.

thanks guys.. i appreciate the kind thoughts and sympathies..
We spent the last 3 months mourning. We knew the time would come. We did everything to make her comfortable and comforted..
Some good came of this. Her two sons reconciled. My wife grew closer to her brothers and mother. She got to spend a good deal of time with her grandchildren. She was a devouted christian and believed she would be up chillin with Jesus..
All is good.. She would have appreciated my morbid sense of humor. She's one of a handful of people who got a chuckle of my antics..
About a month ago, she was feeling a bit a depressed. I was over helping clean up the house, etc.. I came to her room to see how she was doing. I ask if she wanted to hear me play a practical joke? She said sure. I called my oldest brother. I said i was an HR rep and needed to see him first thing Monday morning. He was to bring his badge, truck keys and unforms.
I hung up.. I then called him back ten minutes later and told him it was me. He wasn't very happy.... My MIL Lol'd..
The viewing is friday at 6pm and the funeral will follow Sat morning.
I was ask to speak at the viewing... So, i have to write down my thoughts and say the total the opposite of what I would normally say. :D
have to make sure i don't crack any jokes or say something offensive... Anyway, the wife is hanging in.. She's trying to be strong but she's very sad. Time will heal all wounds. Will see her again in the future......
Thanks again, everyone...

Hello DB,
I hope and pray that the 'Big Guy' sent you some guidence in your 'Eulogy' this evening and your MIL is smiling down upon you for your words. Words are so powerful when they come from the heart of hearts.
I somehow know that your MIL is having some good laughs amongst the grief. For her; all grief is past now. I pray She is at Peace in her new surroundings.
God Bless You, your Wife and your entire Families in making Mom proud in her sendoff on the morrow.
Be well,
Jim
