America can be defined in more than one way.
There are boundaries that define our geographic location.
There are statistics that tell us a lot about our demographics.
Then there are the founding documents of the United States which define an ideology, a mission, and a guideline for law and justice. The United States is supposedly dedicated to the notion that we are all equally endowed by our Creator with the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
The people of America have never been perfect when it comes to pursuing the ideals that go along with a commitment to life, liberty, equality, and the Creator who is the source of these blessings.
In the days of slavery, equality was considered to be a negotiable item.
When Indian tribes were relocated, the personal freedoms of one group of people were compromised in order to make another group of people happy .
Commitment to maintaining a culture of life is now considered to be a negotiable item in this country. So is public acknowledgment of the Creator.
The most fundamental statement of the founding U.S. documents: "We find these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness".
Our current president has said that he intends to give new meaning to the Declaration of Independence.
I don't think that the Declaration of Independence needs a new meaning; the original meaning is "right on" in my opinion.
The missing ingredient is a majority of people who will, for the first time in our history, actually embrace all the concepts that are supposed to define the ideology and the mission of the United States of America.
