Sadly I'm too young to remember what it was like when both of them were very relevant at the same time.

I remember the 1979 "We Are Family" Pirates. "Pops" Stargell, "Cobra" Parker, Bly, Candy Man.

Kent Tekulve and Dave Parker are both Cincinnati guys, too. Parker, who was actually born in Mississippi, grew up less than a mile from Crosley Field. He owns several area Popeyes restaurants.

I wouldn't be surprised, but the NL central looks weak overall, so even if they make the playoffs, they will be ousted.

The AL west is the weakest division. I don't agree about the NL central though. The Reds, the Cubs, and the Cardinals look strong. The Brewers might pose a threat (and for some reason, they've done well against the Reds over the last few seasons,) but their lack of good starting pitching (no Ben Sheets) will probably relegate them to a mid-division finish. The Astros and the Pirates will be the division carpets.

There is no reason in the world the Central wont come down to the Cubs, Cards, and Brewers depending on the Brewers starting pitching. Where does this optimism come from that the Reds all of a sudden a NL central contender? Obviously anything is possible, just look at the Rays last year, but there is no way the Reds can be considered serious contenders alongside the Cubs and Cards at this point. They have some good young talent, but the Cubs and Cards both have veteran talent.

As far as the Reds go, I say they will have a strong first half, and then the meltdown will begin, with no Cincinnati teams in the playoffs.

Don't get me wrong though. I am a Reds fan through and through. I just don't think they are there yet.

Preparing for fantasy drafts has turned into a good indicator, for me, of which teams might surprise a few people.

The Reds have three starting pitchers that will be drafted in every league.

They have 2 of the best young position players, in Votto & Bruce.

I think there's plenty of reason for optimism in Cincy.

The Reds' pitching looks great.

It didnt look so great when we got shelled by the Mets 9-7 the other night.

I dont think this is the year for the Reds. They need another couple of years yet.

It's early in the season. By the way, we won a high-scoring affair in the third game. Cordero was FILTHY!!!
