View Full Version : I was called a racist for not voting for Obama

Shortly after the Obama innuragation while I was at my weekend job, during lunch my co-workers brought up how great it was finally having black president in office. California, rather the San Francisco area is the belly of the liberal beast and I should have remember this when I said he didnt get into office on MY vote. Out came the accusations of being racist. Tried to argue back with the whole Tony Resco , Bill Ayers and rev Wright , the leftist Obama Mania Media rebutal to no avail. His skin color had nothing to do with me not voting for him. Oakland is prodominately black in population and nobody did their homework on Obama except me. So now every Saturday and Sunday at work I get the glares from the people I work with. Even on the freight elevator somebody wrote on the wall " Rosa sat down so King could stood up and Obama will lead " Im the only one in maybe 50 people there that went McCain.
Sorry , had to vent

I have one to beat that: Now that he's won, every time someone makes a statement criticizing him for a decision, it will be because he's racist. Because he's black will be the norm from now on. Get another job and work with Americans.

You're only racist if you didn't vote for him because he was black.
You're only racist if you disagree with anything he's doing simply because he's black.
If neither of those things truly apply simply point that out and move along. Because for the claim of racism to even stand it had t have been part of your decision making, if it was not....well then I guess that would easily prove you aren't a racist. People can say what they want, it doesn't make them right.

Judging by your victim attitude I think the" glares" are all in your imagination

Welcome to the club. Anyone who didn't vote for Obammy is supposedly "racist". Whatever.
I don't talk about politics at work. Saves me the whole strained relationship thing with my coworkers.
When they start raving about Obammy, I let 'em go on and I keep my mouth shut. I say nothing.
It works for me. I hate it. But it works. Kind of like not putting a McCain sign in my yard (I live in a predominantly black area). I just know better than to let others know I'm not an Obammy worshipper. *shrug*

I'm not the least worried. It won't be long before the world figures out exactly what an incompetent boob our "president" is.
Of course, by the time they do figure this out, he will have done considerable damage that will take generations to un-do, but I really believe America is strong enough to withstand even a boob like Obammy and still come back stronger than ever.
So....to you Obammy worshippers--enjoy while you can. The house of cards will come down around your ears before long.

Choose your battles.
Choose your conversations.
Some people are really caught up in the messiah syndrome.
At a business meeting not long ago a man showed me a magazine cover that mocked President Bush. He smiled in a satisfied way and said he was so filled with hope now that we would have someone like Obama as president and we would be rid of that 'guy Bush'. He asked me if I was feeling hopeful too.
I took a breath and said quietly that I was, indeed hopeful. I hope that our taxes do not go up. I hope that he doesn't use his office to forward the extreme left-wing social engineering agendas. I hope he does not let his inexperience get us in to a twist with our enemies. I hope that he does not punish the working people for the fiscal excesses and lack of discipline in government. So, yes, I replied... I was hopeful.
He scurried away. He wasn't really interested in a conversation, just a kumbaya moment.. which we did not share.
Mostly, though, it takes a direct question to even 'go there' for me. Too many people are into attacking you personally if you disagree with them... so, I choose my conversations carefully in that there has to be an opening for genuine exchange.

Well I dont dislike anyone for any reason. Gays, Lesbians, Black people, asians, we run tha gammit on diversity here. It just happen to come up how great it was to have an african american in office finally. Yes, I should have known better for chiming in the bit about not getting my vote. But everybody seemed to want to be part of history and vote for the first african american president. Reguardless to the policies and ultimate cost to the country. The media played his win as a landslide victory which it wasnt. Chris Mathews even getting " tingles " in his legs and another crying on innergration day. People feed on that stuff. CNN, MSNBC, ABC, all are so far left its sickning. People think they are getting the full story.
The Obama people in the days leading up to voting day were camping out at the Bart stations here ( San Francisco subway system ) passing out change stickers, Yes we Can shirts and signing up people to vote on election day. I happened to walk out of one of these stations, at 16th and Mission street station in San Francisco and asked if there was someone in charge here, someone in the know, that I had questions about Obama. The woman I asked gave me a CHANGE sticker for th4e car an walked me over to the table across the street and directed me to a man who she said was in charge of the campaign for the San Francisco democratic office. I politely asked whats the real story with Obama and Bill Ayersw, or Tony Resco or even why Obama would donate to ACORN, a charity who makes up names and used dead people in signing up voters. The guy studdered asking whats going on, and I only said I was undecided and needed info that Mr Obama refuses to discuss. I was then told to leave or hed have the BART police arrest me for harassing him.
In all honesty Obama ran a steller campaign. He had the money, he had his poison punch drinkers and he is a great speaker. Not many people are great speakers. Being able to say nothing yet take pages to do it. Adolf Hitler had this ability and so did John Lennon. While Obama took jabs at McCain left and right, McCain never took advantage of the material out there in reguards to Obamas questionable history and his shady dealings. Neither party had a exceptionally great candate to vote for. Theres a few things I dont care for about McCain either.
At any rate it was own dumb fault for even mentioning that I didnt vote for Obama at lunchtime anyways.

It is more like the latter. :))
But I wasn't joking with my previous comments, just telling the truth. You start talking conservative politics there and you'll not only be hassled, you'll probably be frozen out.
The SF Bay Area is where I learned what the true meaning of liberal 'tolerance' is. They're tolerant of anyone that believes in their opinion.

Like when I was a police officer in a wonderful, small town, that started changing from white to mostly black. Every time I stopped a black driver they said, "you just stopped me because I'm black. It bothered me a lot, mostly because it was impossible to tell the race or see the driver after mid-nite, but I continued to do the job the taxpayers paid me to do.
Then, over a period of time, some of us decided to have our own cliche. We would answer back, "oh, my wife is black", that confused them so badly that they had no smart-ass answer to come back with. I simply smiled and continued to do my job.

2. WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM OUR FRIENDS.
Police in Oakland , CA spent two hours attempting to subdue a gunman who had barricaded him self inside his home. After firing ten tear gas canisters, officers discovered that the man was standing beside them in the police line, shouting, 'Please come out and give yourself up.'

Aside from straying from the original idea of the thread, Oakland like any other major US city has its share of problems. The feds are looking into abuse of power on the city police department during a drug bust, on New Years Eve a Bart cop shot an unarmed man who was co-operating with them by laying on his back, then he was shot at point blank by a cop. The Bart police sat on this for over a week, no im sorry, no explaination , no investagation, NOTHING, so demonstraitors took their anger out on the streets of Oakland by burning cars, firebombing businesses and mass looting. In every city there are idiots who have no business doing what they do .... LA, New York, Atlanta, Miami, wherever.
Along with the many street gangs, drug deals gone bad, and carjackings. That happens in every major city across America. I enjoy it here and would never leave Oakland. I dont follow sports so I wouldnt care less if the Raiders or the Athletics left. For me Oakland is where I want to live.

I think its more ethnic. People all over the world tend to vote for their own ethnic group. If anything white Americans are much less that way than most other human groups.
When ethnic prejudice crosses racial lines it is racism. But I agree, white Americans as a group are much less inclined to make race or ethnicity an issue than nearly any other group you could name... including black Americans.

This whole thing makes me sick & I could go on about it all night, but I'll try to keep my rant short. Me & my husband are both white, & we've been trying unsuccessfully to adopt a black baby girl for almost 2 years. We have read & learned about racism & about the different black cultures, & taken parenting classes. We really feel that black is beautiful & I'm looking forward to all the fun, beautiful hairstyles I'll be able to do on my little girl's hair. We feel that your skin color is on the outside & we're all pretty much the same on the inside, & that every child deserves a chance to have a loving home with a mom & dad who love them for who they are & set a good example for them. I truly believe in my heart that God is leading me to a black daughter, though sometimes I feel like giving up & that my dream will never come true. But that's another topic. What I'm getting to is that I did not vote for Obama either. (Neither did my husband.) Does that make me a racist? I hope not. I voted against Obama because I'm a conservative Republican, & I wanted the best candidate to win, not the one with the "cool" skin color. It was voting for the president of the USA, not the winner of American Idol. I think the country is heading for disaster because of Obama & it has nothing to do with his color. It has everything to do with the fact that he's a socialist who wants government to run everything. If you're a racist for voting against Obama because he's (half) black, arent you just as racist if you voted for him because he's (half) black? I know there are true liberals (like my brother) who will vote for any Democrat, but I bet at least half of Obama's voters had no idea what he really stood for & just thought he was cool because he was younger & half black. I also dont believe that if you have just one black birth parent, you're automatically black. His mother, who raised him, is white, so he's as white as he is black. During the election I saw so much ugly stuff from all sides. The fact that 95% of blacks voted for him is not something to be proud of that shows how far we've come. It's something to be embarrassed about because it shows what a big deal race still is in 2008. I really thought things were getting better in this country between the races but now I dont know. I know many blacks are conservative when it comes to social issues, so I dont buy it that 95% of them agree with Obama's politics. I'm sick of hearing that Republicans are racists. My Republican friends are a few of the most loving, un-racist people you'd ever meet who have been completely supportive of us wanting to adopt, & not all of them are white. I just hope in 4 years that everyone is so sick of Obama that we'll get a good conservative voted into office, & that I'll have an almost 4-year-old little girl to take with me to vote for him.

How long have you lived there?
The city has dramatically changed for the worse. I know that place. It used to be a decent place to live, but no longer. The crazies are starting to outnumber the normal people and that isn't a good thing.
Btw, OPD is not BART. BART cops are a different entity. Jerry Brown did some good but now it's the idiots back into office and they're taking it down down down.
Crime used to be basically in a few certain areas, now it's everywhere. I know folks who won't even go into the city anymore.
When a kid can't take a piano lesson INSIDE a building near Lakeshore without getting shot and being turned into a paraplegic, something is seriously wrong. Strong armed robbery with people eating at Milano's? HELLO, are you kidding that this is normal?
Wake up. Oakland has changed for the worse.
I know why it used to be a decent place to be. It isn't anymore. Hopefully some sanity will come back with the remaining non crazy folks there and they get someone back into office that can hold the reigns again.

As you cruise through life, you have to make a stand for what YOU believe in. We are not all the same and we don't all come to the same conclusions. Those that would make remarks that show no intelligence what soever...figure it this way...1,000,000 times 0 will always be zero. You have to respect the person who gave the opinion before you can respect the opinion.

IF you didnt vote for Obama you are obviously a racist just like the people retroactively punished for using words that were not considered racist prior to the controversy like Don Imus, or who were overheard telling a joke that made fun of some group, or the guy that got fired for having said some banned word in a moment of anger, or the student who was beat up for having a T-Shirt with an ugly cartoon on it, etc, etc, etc.
White people in this country have long surrendered their right to being given a fair hearing when charged with racism.
You should just get used to it, especially if you have ever damned someone for racism in the past and it was anything other than someone wanting to deprive people of their legal rights on the basis of their race.

Nothing new. At work one of my colleagues said that Obama lost to Georgia because it was full of "good ol' boys".
I was offended but I got over it. It is no surprise how ignorant people are.

I would take that as a compliment. It's the states with the bad ol' boys that voted for Obama.

It seam to color/age should have nothing to do with voting but this time color and age did and people that have never voted before came out and voted for Obama because he's black
Even before he did anything they said that he is one of our greatest presidents ever
I think that anyone that tells a person that their a racist because they didnt vote for Obama has made the point that he is a black man and that to me is the racistism

Anyone who is black who did not vote for McCain is racist against whites.
The better argument is the Obama vs Hillary primary. There is not 10 cents of difference between the two so why was the ONLY demographic that voted so overwhelmingly for one candidate over the other African Americas for obama? even white woman had a much closer to an even split.

oh it was disgusting. even many legitimate criticisms of barack were assumed to be based on racism yet ageism, even for the sake of ageism was seems ad a legitimate concern.

Wrong -
On 4 major issues (Health Care, Iraq, Economy, and Education), the primary platforms of Obama and Clinton were different.

4 out of how many?
and the differences outlined in that story(9 months PRIOR to the election by the way) are not that different.
the both want a form of universal coverage...
the both want a time time for withdraw from iraq...hillary;s was fasted and more detailed (in FEB) but by November they were much closer to each other.
the both wanted to use middle class tax cuts and checks for lower class
education the only real difference is hillary lied about ending NCLB (a revamped clinton policy). and they both sight FUNDING and an issue. so really there is no difference there either. both wanted to make it easier to afford college. just a matter of how it would be funded.
there was NO REAL difference between the two. and certainly not enough to enplane why 90% of African Americans voted for obama over hillary.

Of the people I know that said personally they were branded as racists for not voting for Obama (there were not that many that I know that told me this) - I found out through much conversation with them, they really were.
One I thought I knew well, very very well, who told about blacks being in "their place" and how they should have been all sent back to Africa. I must say I was shocked to hear some things from people in this last election that I would have never imagined these folks saying.

It will went on all the way to the end. Knock our president, you must be racist, dont vote for him you must be a racist ...
Ive long gotton laid off from that particular job but its still out there. Wjhat these naive people dont get and most likely never will is that many thousands of white americans voted for obama and not Mccain. Lots of people drank the poison kool-aid that he was dishing out on the campaign.
However I have come across in the general routine of life daily hardcore democrats that are going through buyers remorse. I have been told by some that THIS is not what they voted for. They wanted change, hope and out of the wars. Finally people little by little are seeing Obamas broken promises and just how radical he really is. Obama dosent seem to grasp just how bad this unemployment/mortguage crisis really is. The country is suffering and hes hung up on his twisted health care ideas. Its not about skin color its about saving America , preserving what took out founders fought and died for , for over 200 years. Its finally getting through. I only wish thoes poor saps I worked with would open their eyes and see Obama is not who he claimed and still not what he claims to be. This is maddning but im still trying to get the word out.

That is a great response. I live in San Francisco and from now on when someone calls me a racist after I tell them I didn't vote for Obama I will give them a very confused look and say "if I'm a racist because I didn't vote for Obama then what am I for voting for Alan Keyes?"
