I stumbled onto this today.
It's a list of the wealthiest pepole in history, with their fortunes adjusted to today's dollar.
John D, Rockefeller is #1 with $318.3 billion.
2. Andrew Carnegie / 298.3 billion
3. Nicholas II of Russia / 253.5 billion
Bill Gates is #20 on the list.
George Washington was worth 17.7 billion in today's money.
There are some surprising names.

I am really surprised that Alexander the Great is not at the Top since he at one time ruled virtually all the known world in his time

Good point. Maybe they don't have the numbers to compute his wealth.

I call it like I see it....
this is total horsehockey.
1. there is no way to determine exactly what such people as Alexander the great had because as he saw it, none of it was his.
2. today, people put wealth in something that isn't worth the crap it was made of. example... the dollar which is only a representation of an assumed wealth of a nation. keep holding on to that
3. and most important, I am #1 because I rule the world. The world is mine. I own you and everything you know. I may not bother you much, but its because I am such a benevolent soul. I own you. you know who i am. I tell you how to live and I tell you what to think. I am the cult of personality. I am all you know. I am the wool over your eyes to blind you from the truth. that truth is that you belong to me. but that is a secret that you must keep because its just between you and me.

You'll be over it tomorrow.
You might have a headache, but try to sleep it off.;)

Counted fast... so could be wrong. 127/200 of them had the United States as their Current or Final Place of Residence.

That sounds about right.
The most interesting thing to me was to see the fortunes of people like Rockefeller compared to Gates and Buffet.
No comparison. Those old robber barons had some bucks:)

Not sure why you are so happy. Evidently you see the accumulation of wealth for one person as some sort of positive?

Why shouldn't I be happy that so many Americans were able to use their entrepreneurial genius as market entrepreneurs (hopefully) to push for and achieve amazing economic achievements that enriched themselves and improved the lives of millions (at least)?
And... for example, John D. Rockefeller might indeed have been worth $318.3 billion in roughly todays dollars... but so what? His wealth couldn't get him cable television, video games, the Internet and e-mail, home air conditioning, modern medicine, etc.
Almost seems like I'm "richer" than 'em... :shifty: (http://books.google.com/books?id=C0me_egxxDcC&pg=PA506&lpg=PA506&dq=are+you+richer+than+the+richest+american&source=bl&ots=QjZ4dx_e1x&sig=KXAf7UIuEFuRjH21S8vR-NYoVVI&hl=en&ei=b0CSSdqROInKtQPssOG-Cw&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=1&ct=result)

Keep in mind that when someone on the Left refers to "accumulation of wealth for one person", they are approaching it from the viewpoint that there is a finite amount of 'wealth' in the world, and when someone 'accumulates' it, that means someone else is being deprived of it.
The concept of creation of wealth is foreign to them.

What about Bernie Madoff? I wonder where that swindlers numbers would show up? Hey, don't wait for our degenerate for an excuse of a Government to anytime shut down or freeze any of this bottomfeeders International Bank accounts. Isn't that amusing my friends? A lawless international Banking piece of trash get's a pass after he stole from all those innocent people? Why is that? Can anyone explain why, or atleast ****ing ask why every single day?
It's a wonder why these rats get away with what they get away with? Who is seizing this carpetbaggers assets? Who is atleast trying to account for what is left over, so that maybe the victims can atleast get a percentage of the funds that this scum bag of the lowest form stold from them? Don't yuh wonder, just wonder for a minute, why some disgustingly vile people seem to get away with everything?
But why is that? Why is it that Bernie and guys like Marc Rich get away with it, yet others do not? Why is it that Timothy Geithner, another international Banker, gets away with tax evasion, yet Daschle does not? Is it simply that these bankers just have more power in D.C than even our elected officials or our President? Oh no, that couldn't be it, now could it? But what is the real reason. Oooooooh, don't think now, oh no. Don't you ever think on your own.
What a shame. Wake up America. They are cleaning us out just like they have Historically done to other Nations for centuries. Now, it's time for them to move on to the next victims. Maybe Red China? Either that, or declare war on Red China, so then they can erase and wipe away their, not our, debt to them. LOL!!!!!!! One day soon you liars and manipulaters of truth will be exposed once again. ;)

Wrong. I see no great merit in it.

You obviously think of it as a negative, because you asked if we saw it as "some sort of positive".

No is going to wake up, as the media is just too effective in misdirecting and confusing people.
We the working public is being screwed on so many levels and between the ideologues of the left and right there is no light in sight.

Wrong. I see no great merit in it.
The merit is that these people became wealthy while also making the people that they made business arrangements wealthier in turn.
Take Gates for example. There are lots of other millionares and billionares that he helped make aside from just himself. A lot of people's careers and jobs are due to the efforts of Bill Gates.
Like him or not, he has been very good for our nation and economy, overall.

Looks like it.
Alexander the Great; owned more than majority of the known world in his reign as King of Macedon and if more statistics were known about his true wealth[dubious – discuss] he could be declared the most wealthy historical figure. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_most_wealthy_historical_figures)

It would be better to live on $20,000 a year in America today than to be a relatively wealthy person living here one hundred years ago. (http://tcsdaily.com/article.aspx?id=050207A)

Wrong. I see no great merit in it. That's because you're a socialist who believes that the highest goal to aspire to is to wallow in mediocrity equally with everyone else.
