Anyone watches the show Toddlers and Tiaras on TLC? It features child beauty pageants and their parents.

I watched the first two shows, and I thought they were entertaining.

I happened to catch about 20 minutes of one episode and couldn't resist doing a little rubber necking.

Very sad.

Very very sad.

The little girls are:

a. not pretty
b. not talented
c. spoiled
d. stressed out
e. going to grow up with completely distorted views of themselves

I watch it. I like it, but I really like beauty pageants. My 1 1/2 year old has competed in and won two baby pageants so far. I think there is a point where too much is too much, though, and if it gets anything other than fun for the BOTH of us, we will stop.

IMHO those mothers are mentally ill.

Back when I worked in the ER, we had a mom race in one day with her 5 year old daughter. The kid had fallen and knocked out one of her front teeth - one of those baby teeth. Mom wanted us to stick it back in because daughter was set for one of those idiotic beauty pageants in 3 days.

I often wondered how many other docs she tried - as the ER doc would have none of it.

I honestly believe that those child beauty pageants are child abuse. And I will never have my kids going through that crap. My kids will be taught that they will be judged on what they accomplish, not how they look.

How can you said it's child abuse? I don't see any abuse on these shows. Do you watch the show?

I think most of the children want to be on these shows.
