Ho hum... Another day in Alaska and another volcano threatens to blow...
This is the same volcano that almost brought down a 747* and disrupted air travel and transport in and out of Anchorage for weeks in 1989.

Is it cause of Alaska that we're having small eq's here in California? ;) I hope you all don't get any ashfall from the "impending" eruption. Good luck.

Did you watch that simulation of the 747 incident? I wish they had continued it to the point where they managed to restart their engines.

Saw a documentary a while back on either Discovery or TLC, something like that. I don't envy you all and your earthquakes. A friend who is from Alaska definitely remembers the one in the 60s. That's his mom's car in front of J.C. Penney's getting crushed by the storefront.

The earthquakes are no big deal... that '64 earthquake is the only one since white man colonized Alaska that has done any serious damage. Even the 7.9 quake we had November of '02 (the strongest in Alaska since the '64 quake) did not cause any deaths and only one significant injury. That one was a woman who slipped on her steps while running out of her house and broke her leg. Had she stayed inside she would have been fine. It caused some $30 million damage to roads, bridges and airfields (and a few structures,) but even then it was more of an inconvenience than a disaster. We even sent the FEMA guys packing because we did not need their help. (It hurt their poor wittle feelings... ;) )

That's some pretty scary stuff, I pray it doesn't do no more than puff some smoke.

It is not to be feared; it is something to be aware of and prepared for.
... and your prayers won't stop it from doing what it will (an least not without the obligatory virgin sacrifice. ;) )
