View Full Version : The Official American Idol Season 8 Thread

Season eight of American Idol premieres Tuesday night with some changes. There's a fourth judge, fewer auditions episodes with the bad singers, more Hollywood week episodes, and no Idol Gives Back concert.
I wish the contestants will play instruments again.
Any thoughts and ways to improve the show?

They won't be able to do it in the early episodes for times sake but when it gets down towards the end I wish they'd make the contestants sing full songs instead of snippets. The best example of why this would be good is David Cook's version of Baba O'Riley last year. That is not a song that can be done in 1 1/2 minutes and it really needed more time.

I’ll be watching tonight for the premiere. I hope some of the changes are to make it less of a freak show and to make it more of a talent search again.
Some of the past shows focused too much on the contestants back stories. This is something I would like to see reduced. More time can be given to their story once they make it through to the later rounds but, not from the start.
I think the producers tried too hard to get sympathy for one contestant or another in an attempt to create drama. It’s already enough of a reality show for them to try to introduce unnecessary scandal.
I really don’t like the group numbers but, I know that is a big part of the tour that's put together after the show concludes for the year. I just think they make themselves look like they’re in a Brady Bunch episode when they do that.

I think the bad auditions are the best part of it.
It reminds me of the Gong Show.

I do not know if this guy made it to the top 24 because that hasn't been decided yet but a little birdie told me he made it to the top 50. I believe he will be seen on tonight show. I'm hoping all the Pro MILITARY people pull for him and pick up the phone to vote if he makes it that far.
His name is Thomas "Otto" Malone. He is in the Army reserve and he will be the one standing on crutches as he sings . Age: 28 Hometown: Tuscon Audition City: KC
Audition song: “So Far Away” by Staind and “Hemorrhage” by Fuel.
He was injured in Iraq and that is why he is on crutches. He should be healed now but at the time, wow loads of stitches.
Just hope he makes it because every year a Military person tries out and gets the big boot.
Last year there was a very pretty lady who flew C-117 aircraft and her voice was good. They didn't put her through to Hollywood because they said she sounded OLD FASHIONED. Well that might be a little true but they could have sent her through to give her a chance to prove otherwise but they didn't and that is because I think of her Military Status.
Just my two cents. I rather watch American Idol then the Obama anyday. LOL

They are bringing back a wild card this year but instead of the people voting on who comes back it will be the Judges choice. ( I dont' like that)
They will be allowed to play instruments this year also.
No more Phone in Questions this year! (thank goodness)
They will show the contestants more after they sing and as they go backstage so people can see more of how they act behind the scenes. (lame) American Idol wants more drama this year it seems and this is how they are attempting to do that. Simon Cowell has even made comment about wanting to hear Contestants respond more to the Judges comments. Another push to get more drama. Those that do that though will probably not last.
We will see.

Oh I have a link to the top ten spoilers list if anyone wants to peek. It isn't complete only about 20 for sure the rest of the list are KNOWN to make it to hollywood.
There is one gal who is pretty close to being professional who made it to Hollywood but the speculation is that she will leave the show because on her website/myspace (one of those) she accepted a role in a big hit broadway show which starts mid Jan.

.......
My daughter auditioned in SLC. She sings well.. but got the standard line. 'You are a good singer, but you are just not what we are looking for" There was a girl there who really knocked the socks off everyone who heard her. she didn't make it through. HOWEVER, there was a woman who came with a ventriloquist doll who did make it through.
She was not much of a singer.
So much for no freak show.

Colton Swon who tried out and made it to the top 50 during season 7 tried out again this year and made it to top 50 this year and is rumored to be a front runner and already as a fan base. Audition City: Kansas City
Just a few tidbits to watch for.

So much for no freak show.Sorry to hear that and I sure that American Idol has many plants in the show. People they have seen and put through to Audtions without having to stand in line like everyone else does. IT's a shame because there is so much talent out there. I would tell your daughter to try out again next year because if she is that good, my bet is she will get through. Not sure if it's true but I also think it depends on what line she is in on the initial audtion. Some of the lines I heard gave all NO's but the line next to them people got through. *shrug*

My favorite part of Idol is the audition weeks (for the comedy) and once they get down to the top 12 (for the actal talent). I usually skip the Hollywood weeks.

OK, that explains why I thought I saw Jason Castro in a quick preview of Wednesday nights show, maybe he was there with his brother. And I was wondering if the Salt Lake City auditions would include an Osmond. I mean, there must be about 20,000 Osmonds in Salt Lake, certainly one of them would have auditioned!
Looking forward to tonight and am glad that AI has returned.

The new judge is ok with me…Kera somebody. [Kara DioGuardi] I don’t think the other judges ever threatened a contestant before.
Bikini girl was Ok, too in the sense that the segment provided some comedy. When she chased Ryan down and made good her promise to make out with him the song playing in the background was “I Kissed a Girl”. Now, that was funny.

The question I have is this. Why should Joanna Pacitti be allowed on Idol? She was signed to a label, she got dropped, she blew her chance. Why put someone who is somewhat a pro, up against a bunch of amateurs? Doesn't seem all that fair.

I watched her audition and I don't know what happened to her in her past attempts but I sure wasn't impressed. For someone with her experience she seemed very nervous, almost timid, during the audition and - while good - her audition wasn't the caliber I'd expect from someone with her history and experience.
I read an article on her and it seems like not only did she have a record deal, she's already done reality TV, was on stage, was in a documentary and she has several video's on Youtube. That leads to the questions of her already having a "head start" on the other contestants by having an existing fan base and prior national exposure.
Frankly, she sounds like all the other girl singers out there to me. Nothing unique or special in her voice. She's going to need to do better than that audition and the music video I just watched it she wants to make it as far as the final 12 but I'm betting she'll be removed because of conflicts due to her prior experience long before that.

I think the rule is that contestants cannot have a current ongoing record deal with a record label. If they don’t have a contract then they can enter the AMI competition.

That may be her weakness in the upcoming Hollywood rounds but, if she can make it through that without being self-conscious or nervous she should make the top 10.
Yes, she’s been a pro and had a career in music most of her life. The amateurs that appear on the show every year claim to have the same thing pushing them to audition; “Music is my life” but, they really can’t sing. Joanna can sing and music has been her life. Having what others only claim to have had shouldn’t disqualify her.
Whatever the troubles were in the past have damaged her confidence. I saw some videos yesterday and they were done years ago but, she sounded as you say…like a lot of other girls out there. (in other words she was made to sound that way) Looking into her career it looks like the jobs her management has been giving her on Soundtracks, etc. are perhaps what she doesn’t want to do. Maybe, her people were making the same mistake in boxing her in by telling her that was all she was going to be. That could break the sprit of anyone.
I believe she has the voice to make it to the end.

The songwriting contest is controversial; I've seen professional Dove Award nominated Nashville writers win the contest both years (Scott Krippaehne and Reggie Hamm).
Kara DioGuardi was a "principal" on the short-lived US version of Italian television network Mediaset's Star Academy (the franchise was originally known as Operación Triunfo when it aired in Spain; Endemol relabeled it Star Academy for international franching; Mediaset, owned by Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, purchased Endemol in 2007) that was attempted in 2006 (only lasted two weeks). Star Academy ran from 2003-05 in Canada, and is slated to return this spring with René Angélil in the role DioGuiardi was supposed to play in the US version that never got off the ground. Julie Snyder hosts. (She also hosts Mediaset's French-language Deal or No Deal Canada.)

He's still in it. They didn't show much of him, but they did show that he made it through. I was very disappointed in what they showed, and what they didn't show last night from Hollywood week. They spent way too much time on the drama queen and Ms. Katrina. What a total waste of time for me.

I can not compare to previous episodes and seasons, but I will tell you that the drama was a little too much for my liking. All I wanted to do is see the 'group' performances, but had to be totured with all the BS crap first.
Ms. Katrina is the bikini chick, right? The one who thinks she's going to go all the way on her looks. I had to laugh at her vain attitude. At least she's got the looks, because her singer voice is horrible compared to many amongst her. If she wasn't booted last night, she will be soon.

You can't bring this, you can't bring that . . .
American Idol studio audience attendees have been warned that price lists -- including grocery shopping receipts -- are strictly forbidden inside the CBS Television City Lot and Studio. Cellular phones, tape recorders, backpacks, ice chests, and photography are also illegal, but CBS (Idol is taped in Studio 36) has warned attendees in light of last September's perfect bid taping on the Showcase that they have tightened rules for entrance to any of their studios. They are declared cheat sheets for the Drew Carey game show hosted in the Barker Studio which is next door.
If you can't bring it to Price, you can't bring it to Idol. That's the warning CBS (which owns the studio) and RTL (which produces Idol and Price) have given to audience for Idol.

Hey, If he deserved to go then so be it. I would have liked to have seen for myself just what happened. He grew up in a family whose forte was group harmony. He spent several years as a child performing the same way his dad and uncles did. Given his ability to sing, and the experience he brought to a group type audition, I figured him to sail through. AI's decision not to cover this leaves me with one question... Did he do something so embarrassing that the Osmond family ask that it not be aired? Because that is the only explaination I can think of.

OK, If that's all it was, then he'll likely be back next year to try again. Still, I'm curious though why AI chose not to cover that on the show. Being the avid watcher I am of this program I offer this observation. Many times, the judges have given people a pass, whom they think will amount to something on the show, (people who they think "make good T.V." ) when it's obvious they are hamstrung with a soar throat, or other temporay illness which may be interfering with their audition. So I am skiptical it was simply a case of laryngitis, which sent him packing. I feel there is more to this story.

Well they put through both the screamer (Tatiana) and the drama queen (Nathaniel).
I thought I would heave last year having to watch that grotesquely tatted Irish girl so this year I have to suffer through both tats and face piercings with the DQ. Who wants to see that stuff?
I liked both of the guys who got the last 2 spots. The welder and the oil rig guy. They looked like normal everyday people.
Man... I couldn't agree more. Nathaniel and Tatianna have got to be two of the first people to leave the top 36, or this season is going to suck. There were several singers better than both of them that got sent home. How the hell is Nathaniel still there and David Osmond isn't?

I liked that Jamar guy better than Tatianna or Nathanial. I think he was the first person where I actually felt bad that he was leaving. His best friend Danny got to stay. I really thought it was going to be the other way around.
They have some good talent this season. I can't wait to see what the blind guy does, he's pretty awesome.

Oh I so agree with that. I near fell off the couch laughing last night as I watched Simeon's face when Tatiana giggle laughed her way into the room. :))
I've heard of nervous ticks before...but man...ear bending annoying laughter and giggling? That's a weird one to be sure. And the crying...dear lord and flying frogs that gets old quick! Hope she gets cut long before the final 12!
The other kid...Nathanial? Looks like the last lost Duran Duran singer! lol

I’m glad that’s over with...now on to the real show were America can vote on who gets to stay.
I really didn’t like some of the choices but, if you heard throughout the discussions with the judges, they kept saying things like, “this is the kind of person we’re looking for to put in the show”. When they talked like that it made it clear they were looking for weirdness to go with the talent.

I’m happy to see my girl Joanna survived the final cut but, they may have generated more controversy over her selection in the way she was presented. I don’t know if they tried to not show her progression through the early rounds to avoid the talk of favoritism that had been laid on her or what. Last night was the first night they actually aired some of her singing.
By limiting Pacitti’s airtime to only a few seconds of her forgetting the words to one song and then passing her on to the top 36 will anger those that already don’t think she deserves to be there. Usually, forgetting the words is an instant disqualification.
She is no doubt one of the most talented and that is why she made it through with the judges decision. They know she can sing but the viewers never got to see that. Now, hopefully they will.

Sorry to burst your bubble CWW, but she's been disqualified.
LOS ANGELES (AP) - An "American Idol" contestant who made the show's top 36 was disqualified. In its press released issued Wednesday night announcing the 36 contenders, Fox TV said that Joanna Pacitti was "ineligible to continue." No reason was given.
Felicia Barton of Virginia Beach, Va., replaced Pacitti, a Philadelphia native, in the top 36.
The show announced the semifinalists Wednesday night, then later released an update saying it had cut Pacitti loose and subbed in Barton, a 26-year-old married mom.
Pacitti, 23, could not immediately be reached for comment.
A few of the contestants in Tuesday night's episode, including Pacitti, flubbed the lyrics but made it through to the next round.
Pacitti, who auditioned in Louisville, Ky., entered "Idol" with a showbiz resume. She had a record deal with Geffen and released an album in 2006. Billboard reports it sold more than 16,000 copies. "American Idol" judge Kara DioGuardi recognized Pacitti when she auditioned in Louisville, Ky.
She also starred in "Annie" on Broadway as a young girl, and sang on the soundtracks for the movies "Legally Blonde" and "Bratz." Britney Spears' tune "Out From Under," from her latest album, was first performed by Pacitti on the "Bratz" soundtrack.
All that experience was enough to draw complaints from viewers who thought she was too polished for the top-rated show, which purports to pluck raw talent out of nowhere and turn them into stars.
However, eight seasons in, "Idol" has selected singers who have spent time in the recording studio.
Pacitti's situation echoed the controversy over last season's finalists, Carly Smithson and Kristy Lee Cook, who had previous record deals.
Smithson had recorded an album for MCA Records, while Cook once had a deal with Arista Nashville. Other experienced seventh-season singers include Robbie Carrico, who was in the pop group Boyz N Girlz United, and runner-up David Archuleta, who won "Star Search" in 2003.

It was an okay night for the first 12 singers on American Idol.
I loved the performances by Alexis Grace and Jackie Thon, although I don't think Jackie will make the top three.
I also like the performances of Tatiana, Anoop Desani, Ricky Braddy, and Micheal Sarver. I won't be surprised that Micheal will be in the top three.
I liked Danny Gokey's performance, But I agreed with Simon that it was good not great.

Anoop: 5

I get the feeling that the producers are trying to push Danny into the finals. He got the lucky draw of being the last performer.
The show was having a hard time tonight. They didn't have the right tape racked up for one of the performers and had to do an awkward ad lib with technical directors yelling from off camera. And I hated the whole concept of having the contestants walk up the stairs right after performing for pointless interviews with the parents and contestants. Plus, two hours is too much time. They could have done this show in an hour. Not sure about the selection process to whittle it down to the finalists. Seems like they could have weeded out some of the contestants and kept it to 24 instead of 36.

A few notes from the past few weeks:
1. The disqualified contestant - It was not a good week for the German television network (RTL) for shows that aired last week in regards to disqualifications. Earlier that week a contestant on The Price Is Right (which RTL acquired in 2000 after its acquisition of Pearson plc's television arm) that had been called up (but did not win) was disqualified (RTL did not mention the exact reason). Then we had this contestant on Idols disqualified and no reason was given. RTL does have the "Kerry Ketcham Rule" in regards to criminals participation on game shows, named for the Super Password contestant who was a fugitive and was detected by officials. The Ketcham Rule has nailed more than a few Idol contestants.
2. The elimination process. They didn't believe the previous few years of having 24 contestant down to 12 was working since the judges played no part of picking the final twelve, so they have gone to a tougher process with judges playing a role as it was in the past.
3. Is 2010 the last year? Next year may be the last Idol for a good reason. Fox's contract with RTL expires at the end of next season, as does the ban on much better technical spinoff The X Factor. Pop Idol, the original, lasted just two seasons in the UK (2001-02) before being replaced by The X Factor, whose format is considerably different (three classes, under X age, over X age, and groups). Will The X Factor replace Idols in 2011 or even the summer of 2010? Simon Cowell's contract with RTL and Fox prohibits The X Factor from appearing in the US.

I'm not sure I'm crazy about the new process. It just seems a bit abrupt taking three from each group of 12 and throwing the rest into a wild card group. I'll need to see how it all plays out before I can say whether it's a better system vs previous years.

Danny is obviously a favorite of the judges for whatever reason. He is OK but not outstanding, IMO.
That first girl, Jackie? An assault to the ears. What the heck was she screeching?

My performance ratings for the first group of 12:
1. Danny Gokey - I think he nailed the song
2. Alexis Grace - Sultry and hot performance
3. Anoop Desai - Great voice, nice job on the song
4. Ricky Braddy - See above
5. Stephen Fowler - Complete wrong song, but he can sing
6. Michael Sarver - See above
7. Ann Marie Boskovich - She struggled through that song
8. Brent Keith - Forgettable performance on a gimmick song
9. Casey Carlson - All over the place. Awful performance
10. Tatianna Del Toro - I can't stand her, but she wasn't the worst last night
11. Stevie Wright - There's always next year
12. Jackie Tohn - What the hell were the judges watching? It was a mess from this Janis Joplin wannabe.

Just like last season...and already the 'standard' for this season...the panel of judges will say one thing to a contestant...like...that was to old for you..be younger...or that song choice was totally wrong for you...try this genre...and the singers actually listen and go with the advise the judging panel gave them...and for what? To hear them all go off that 'I don't know who you are as an artist." HUH? Talk about confusing! These people haven't developed in their vocal careers enough to even know what type of 'artist' they 'will ' be. Come on.....waste of time imo.
I've said it before..and it bears repeating...the judges/show, should hand the contestant the song that they would like to hear...and give them a list of requirements that are to be met in that performance...period. Continued stupid statements like this from the panel is enough to make me not want to watch the show anymore...I mean for cripes sake! It's predictable what Simon will say...it makes him worthless as a judge....imo. Paula.......gads...why is she even there? Soften the Simon blow? Worthless...and Randy...don't get me started...trying to be cool with his....'I don't know dog...." ...and....' work it out man...just work it out" it's silly.
2 hours was torture last night. An hour would have done just fine. If they were to hold to the 2 hour format..then the singers should have sang the full length versions of the songs they chose.
It's becoming more and more apparent that Idol has 'aged' out it's entertainment value for the viewing public. The supposed drama is conjured and see through...the new format won't save it imo.
Perhaps it's time for X-Factor or another format...and get rid of the old panel....I can't take Randy anymore..and Simon...he's a freaking robot anymore...no life in the old guy...no factor that would make one want to watch him or his caustic personality. :snooty:

Two of the 3 that were voted to continue deserved to be there, but Michael Sarver did not. Simon called her a drama queen, but it's more than that. She has no personal boundaries, no awareness of herself with other people. No clue as to how she comes off. No clue that she's really trying to suck the air out of the entire universe in her own direction.
She's got some serious narcissism going on. She has no class because her ego is out of control. Imagine her as a four year old and her behavior makes sense.

I was waiting for Titania to faint...or explode into a verbal tirade...or to do something embarrassing last night. :(( lol But then again, I think the shows producers were hoping the same thing. ;)
I'm sure it would have been a ratings grab or some such silliness. As soon as they called Danny and Titania to the stage...I knew she was gone....and actually uttered 'Thank God' out loud.
I agree in your assessment of her 'no class' status. Poor form...poor looser. She obviously doesn't understand what it takes in character to be a performer.

They will probably bring her back, and the vote will be three to Simon Cowell's emphatic NO!
This is a fun show that I can watch with my kids. I'd really rather not have to explain her ass while we suffer through her comments every week. Takes the joy out of the thing.
She needs therapy and a lot of it.
I hope they DON'T bring her back! While true that this is a singing competition, and that she can do, there is a LOT to be said for stage presence, poise, likability, and humility. Not to mention the ability to sell records. Tatiana possesses NONE of these qualities. She's also a bit on the Psychotic side. My wife predicts that she is going to off her self, in a very public manner, before the end of this season. Hopfully she doesn't take anyone else with her.

When they first walked down from their seats, my wife and I looked at each other, and she said, those two aren't in the compitition... after a few seconds I said "That's the tattoo girl and the guy who likes to sing Queen songs from last season!" I figured out the reason I didn't recognize Carlee was because she was wearing sleeves. What was that whole bit about her "weave" and her missing luggage anyway? I didn't catch that.

The missing luggage/hair weave thing had to do -- I THINK -- with them being part of the Idol alumni entourage that appeared at the opening of the "American Idol Experience" at Walt Disney World.

For the second straight week, it was an average show on American Idol.
I loved the performances by Allison Iraheta and Adam Lambert. They rocked. I also loved the performance by Megan Joy Corkrey. Her voice is unique. I'm hoping that America would put her through to the final 12. I also thought Kris Allen was decent.
I was amused with Nick Mitchell's performance. You got to admit that it was entertaining.
I don't know about you, but I just not thrill with the new format. It makes the show a little boring.
Here's my voting breakdown:
Allison, Megan, and Adam: 20 votes
Jasime, Kris, Jesse, Kai, Mishavonna: 5 votes
Nick: 3 votes (because he was entertaining)

After the second week, I agree that the new format doesn't work.
Last night there were some weak performances, but given the strength of their past performances, at least half of the group deserved another chance and in the old format they would have probably gotten one.

My ratings for week 2:
1. Adam Lambert - the others weren't even close to him
2. Mishavonna Henson - Great voice - needs to loosen up though
3. Matt Giraud - Chose the wrong type of song, but still a great singer
4. Kai Kalama - Adequate performance
5. Megan Joy Corkrey - Sounds like Maria Muldaur to me... and that's a good thing
6. Jesse Langseth - Average at best
7. Allison Iraheta - Not a bad singer, but I just don't like her
8. Jasmine Murray - I was expecting more from her. She blew this chance
9. Matt Breitzke - Just an average singer. Nothing special
10. Kris Allen - Same as above. Forgettable
11. Jeanine Vailes - Wrong song and she hacked it to boot
12. Nick Mitchell - I can't take seriously a person who doesn't take the show seriously. This guy will end up on a sit com.

I think the show moved along better than last week. Glad they dropped the upstairs interview with the contestant’s family right after their song…that was a little too painful to watch.
I do like it now where only the top three make it through. Yes, some that might be better than their song choice showed they are should get a second chance but, by eliminating the whole group of 9 now saves us from sitting through a lot of really bad performances.
I think it also removes the Sanjaya effect from the show.

Adam Lambert was clearly the best. I guess they’re going to save the best for last again next week, too. (Wonder who that’ll be?) He is not my favorite person on the show. Actually, I don’t like him much at all. He can sing and perform but, he would be more at home on Broadway like his backstory shows his past experience to be.
Meagan Joy Corkery was my favorite last night. She performed Put Your Records On effortlessly. The right song, the right voice, the right look…she should make it thought.
At least I hope so.

No real surprises last night. The constant booing and arguing with Simon is getting rather old. He really is the only one who evaluates the contestants based on their "sellability", that is, people who can be commercial successes. That's what the show is for, not based on someone who looks pretty or whatever lame reason Paula comes up with.
Adam Lambert was a lock from the beginning. I know Simon liked Jasmine but she pretty much blew her chance. However, she could still come back as a wild card. Megan - once again, totally turned off by the grotesque tattoos. What is in the mind of a person to deliberately disfigure their body in such a permanent way? Also, she was very awkward in front of the mike. What was with the back and forth movements?
Kris Allen was OK. He will be a favorite with the 13 year olds.

I was pretty much surpised with the results last night. I knew Lambert was a lock, and even though I don't like her, Allison figured to get through... but I had Kris Allen at the bottom of my list, just because He didn't stand out and was just an average singer, so that one was a shock. I would have put Mishavanna, Matt, Kai and Megan all ahead of him.

Overall, I thought this was the most telanted of the 3 groups of 12. I think the judges were rather harsh on Alex last night. He didn't do the best job, but he did a lot better than what they said he did. Here are my ratings for last night's performances:
1. Lil Rounds - She seems like this is easy for her
2. Jorge Nunez - Raw talent that will only get better with experience
3. Von Smith - Doesn't have the look, but has the pipes
4. Ju'Not Joyner - Very well done performance
5. Felecia Barton - Comeback kid came back strong
6. Alex Wagner-Trugman - Maybe next year he will come back more seasoned
7. Scott McIntyre - Not a bad performance, but not great
8. Kristen McNamara - A pageant performance
9. Kendall Beard - Not bad, but no Carrie Underwood
10. Taylor Vaifanua - Nothing secial about her
11. Arianna Afsar - Abba??? Abba??? I like her, but she blew it last night

One good thing about this season's format? In the final 13, there is not one person that votefortheworst.com can pick to move on each week. Each one of the remaining 12 are great. In past seasons we'd all be biting our nails over just when the one dweeb the judges let through would get voted off, because people who hate the show tune in only to vote the worst through. It's not gonna happen this year. The people over on that site are absolutely heartbroken that Tatiana didn't make it in.

WhiteHatBobby
March 6th, 2009, 7:59 am
Probably they will do the finals as a Final Three instead of a Final Two, as that format is also used on other European television formats (this format comes from German television network RTL, airing first in the UK's ITV, which ran the Idols in 2000 and 2001 before replacing it with The X Factor, another RTL format that is much better, but cannot air in the US by agreement with Fox and RTL; RTL also owns the syndicated Family Feud, CBS' The Price Is Right, which tapes next door (both at CBS Television City; Idol at Charles Cappleman 36, Price at Bob Barker*) and Drew Carey has shown a flair for live music, and will allow Idol band members to model musical instruments at the 1 PM tapings on Idol Day, and NBC's Got Talent.). The Strictly Come Dancing format (BBC) uses a Final Three. Going with a Final Three is a risk that could be worth it since it will give fans three different choices to see who wins, and makes it tougher. One idea could be a Final Three where one must earn a 50% plus one vote majority to win, otherwise the final two will have one more night to play for a title.
* Three studios at CBS Television Citiy have names; Charles Cappleman, a CBS executive who brought along a CBS project in the 1980's to expand the studio, had his name put on the two new studios (36 and 46) upon his retirement in 2004, and Bob Barker, had his name put on the studio where The Price Is Right is taped in 1998 to commemorate the 5,000th episode.

It was a good night of American Idol when the contestants sang the songs from the Micheal Jackson catalog.
I loved the performances by Lil' Round, Scott, Danny, Allison, and Adam. I also loved Alexis' performance, but I do think she oversang Dirty Diana.
I liked the performances by Kris and Matt.
I like Megan, but she wasn't good with Rockin' Robin. I thought it wasn't a good song choice. I think she would be one of the contestants to voted off. However, I did vote for her three times.

Lil Rounds: The Way You Make Me Feel
Best Female performance…she will make it a long way in the competition.
Scott MacIntyre: Keep the Faith
Not the best vocal but as I was listening to his voice I though he should be on the radio now. Kind of who Kara was talking about on the show.
Michael Sarver: You Are Not Alone
He might be in the bottom facing elimination.
Danny Gokey: PYT (Pretty Young Thing)
Considering where the song came from it was really creepy.
Jasmine Murray: I'll Be There
Very amateurish compared to the rest.
Kris Allen: Remember the Time
In the bottom for sure. He played his guitar but I couldn’t hear it.
Allison Iraheta: Give In To Me
I’m starting to like her sound…if she would just stop talking, though.
Anoop Desai: Beat It
Anoop Dawg…out!
Jorge Nunez: Never Can Say Goodbye
A good voice but not for this show.
Megan Corkery: Rockin' Robin
What was that!?! I hope she makes it through but with that song she didn’t win any fans.
Adam Lambert: Black & White
Best Male performance. He made it sound like the Judas Priest version if they were to have done one.
Matt Giraud: Human Nature
Good but not spectacular. I would like to see him do a duet with Scott.
Alexis Grace: Dirty Diana
Yeah, she was good but like a lot of the others she can’t really dance as she sings. (Stop stomping on the stage, people) I do hope the ones voting for her got the number correct. She is at a disadvantage just for being last and having a different number.

Overall it was a good show last night. I just think the Michael Jackson theme was a wrong choice from the judges/producers. Didn’t they all criticize contestants for choosing to sing his songs during the earlier rounds?
I think the twist they’re bringing to the show will be an override from the judges on who receives the lowest votes. The voters may decide who is in the bottom two or three and the judges will then make the final decision on who actually leaves the show.
That will further marginalize the vote for the worst crowd.

One thing to understand now is that the show's owners, German television network RTL, has shed (from its parent, Bertelsmann AG) the music publishing labels, so it allows them more freedom to choose any publisher's library. The Michael Jackson library is one of those the producers chose.

I left the room and did my dishes while Mr. auto-tuner was "singing"...what a waste of time he is. The contestants shouldn't be forced to witness such untalented people at a time they're trying to make it by actually singing their way to recording contract.

SHOCK: AMERICAN IDOL Insider: Show Fixed! Final FOUR already PICKED!... (http://www.nydailynews.com/gossip/2009/03/17/2009-03-17_american_idol_chatter_foursees_finalists.html) <--Click
I think the producers can 'fix' the results somewhat by promoting one contestant over another, or having the judges pan a performance, but I'm not buying them 'fixing' the votes.
American Idol makes a ton of money, and I don't see them risking losing all of it by being caught fixing vote totals.
The four mentioned here are the obvious favorites to win, based on their talent. So I don't see any need to 'pick' them to be in the final four.
And BTW, Adam Lambert is head and shoulders above Chris Daughtry, in talent, vocal range, and stage presence. Danny Gokey may make it to the final two because of his ability and his back story (but I'm getting tired of being reminded of it already), but I don't think he can win against Lambert.

I don’t think the winners have already been picked by the producers or judges. They clearly have their favorites as they have every year and will even say so on air. The show doesn’t speak of the vote totals unless it was a close decision but, even then they don’t give the total…just by how close it was.
The most talented will always get press coverage as easy picks for the finalists. I’m sure behind the scenes talk is of who is most likely to make it to the final four and this is probably what the article was presenting.
What I found at that link was a much bigger scandal.
They’re having a contest to choose who is the better Bikini model between former contestants Katrina Darrell and Casey Carlson…and, they left out Joanna Pacitti !!!….the most talented, best looking, and hotter bikini model than both of those girls combined. That is a crime.
Once again…she’s just way too hot to even be allowed to compete:

It's going to be a shock if Adam Lambert doesn't win this. He's head and shoulders above all the others, and that's not knocking them, because there's some good ones there. Lambert clearly has it all: the voice, the looks, and the stage presence.
A superstar in the making. I predict, win or lose, he's going to be the biggest star to ever come out of A.I..
He'll be top 3 - MAYBE.
The guy has a good voice, but he's an absolute cheeze fest on stage when he performs. That's going to turn a lot of folks off.

Adam, Gokey, and Lil will be the last three.
The 2 piano guys are just too boring. The oil rig guy just doesn't have the voice, and he's not as much of an entertainer. (yeah, I'm not much for remembering names...)
The little wierd haired chick could be a dark horse.
The blond chick with the tatoo sleeve is hot, but a little dorky. If she can learn how to work a stage, pick songs that better show her singing ability, and continues to show cleavage, she might be a dark horse too.

It was a good episode of Country night on American Idol.
I loved the performances by Allison, Kris, Megan, and Matt. Anoop definitely improved over last week.
I thought Adam's rendition of Walk the Line was unique.
Poor Alexis. She wasn't back this week, but it wasn't her best. I hope that she won't be eliminated Wednesday. I'm still worried about Megan's fate.
Voting breakdown:
10 votes: Allison, Kris, Anoop, Megan, and Matt
5 votes: Lil', Adam, Scott, Alexis, Danny
3 votes: Micheal
I have no idea on who'll be eliminate Wednesday.
I can't wait for the Randy Travis/Carrie Underwood duet as well as Brad Paisley

Good show. Hard to say who goes home. I couldn't find a stinker in the bunch. Tonight may be the night the Judges use the "save".
BTW, who else has had just about enough of the Carrie Underwood Redeaux's? Granted, Matt and Danny did a great job with them, but it just seems like her songs have been used more than Michael Jackson's this year.

I did think a few of the performances were bad last night. I have long thought that Michael Sarver isn't in the same league with the other performers and I can't stand Allison whether she sings well or not. Here is my breakdown of last night's show:
1. Danny Gokey - Outstanding and emotional performance.
2. Kris Allen - He made my wife cry. Excellent version of that song.
3. Matt Giraud - I've always liked this guy - even before they started paying attention to him.
4. Adam Lambert - I guess alot of folks didn't like his rendition or "Ring of Fire", but I thought it was innovative and very well done. I rarely agree with anything that Paula ever says, but her comparison to "Kashmir" was spot on.
5. Anoop Desai - Came back with a strong vocal performance.
6. Megan Joy Corkrey - A little flat, but hell... she had the flu.
7. Alexis Grace - Not her best, but still good.
8. Scott McIntyre - Clean performance. Needs to challenge himself more vocally.
9. Lil Rounds - Out of her element, but still fairly solid.
10. Michael Sarver - Never was talented enough to be on this show.
11. Allison Iraheta - PLEASE go home.

Michael Sarver: Ain’t Going Down
The Country theme suited him just right. Not good enough to win though.
Allison Iraheta: Blame It On Your Heart
Consistent performer, she did alright I guess.
Kris Allen: To Make You Feel My Love
The weakest performance by him yet. In the bottom tonight.
Lil Rounds: Independence Day
She’s a great singer but, she ain’t country. Still, I’m sure she’s safe.
Adam Lambert: Ring Of Fire
Spectacular vocals. Randy took the words right out of my mouth describing it like a Nine Inch Nails version.
He should bring it down a notch or two…he’s really pushing it… maybe to the extent of losing some votes pulling crap like that.
Scott Macintyre: Wild Angles
He’s going for the Christian Rock vote every week. I’m wondering if that’s all he’s got.
Alexis Grace: Jolene
Best Female Performance. She’s one of the few that actually stuck to the genre in the way the song was performed.
Danny Gokey: Jesus Take The Wheel
I was not impressed at all. He’s still good in my mind but I didn’t like the song the way he did it.
Anoop Desai: Always On My Mind
I forgot that he’s still in the competition….
Megan Joy Corkery: Walking After Midnight
Performed like a trip back in time. As for what she was wearing: Daaaaaannng!
Matt Giraud: So Small
Best Male Performance. He should make it to the top four with stuff like that.

Yeah, I noticed that.
I do list mine in the order of their appearance on the show and not as a ranking so, that shouldn’t be confused to anyone reading these forums.
Everyone has their own style for their reviews...it helps me remember how each contestant did and what I was thinking at the time if I list them in order.
Alexis may not have given the best vocal ever but I liked her better than Lil this week.
Matt had the song down and put on a great show with that. I think he did better than Danny or Adam this week just because I like them less. It's not to say those two aren’t worse they just are not appealing to me.
When I see Danny on screen...he makes me think of Robert Downey Jr. Anyone else think so? Also, does he change glasses for every show? Those designer frames are expensive. Where's he get the money for something like that? Is this a case of "Product Placement" where a company is sponsoring him to wear their glasses?
Adam is in a league all his own. He will no doubt have a long career in Rock/Heavy Metal. Its time for some new blood in that type music which is something I've listened to for years. It's been getting boring to me so I've been listening to the lighter stuff and that might explain why he is not my favorite contestant.

Oooops, guess I spoke too soon. Didn't see that coming. I thought Sarver was done.
I liked Alexis. Sorry to see her go so soon. She won't be in the tour, and I think her presence in that tour would have sold more tickets than Michael's will. That said, I do agree with the judges decission not to save her. I never really thought she was good enough to win it all, but deserved a couple more rounds in the compitition. I think that one thing has to be in each judges mind as they consider saving someone. Do they feel that one person which America did not vote for on that particular night is capable of winning it all. If they don't, then they can't save them. So they did the right thing IMO.
On to next week.
Speaking of that, with more than 30 million people viewing, how many of them are gonna be ticked at Obama for prempting the show for another prime-time press conference? Just who does this guy think he is?

He looks like a wholesome young family man and I love how he's so polite. Plus he's from Jasper, Texas, a town that needs some good PR.
Alexis didn't do herself any favors because her singing tonight was worse than last night - very pitchy. Of course, she was probably nervous as heck and that might have affected her voice.
Her departure also scotches those reports that the final 4 were already decided and she was one of them.
Yeah, that Obama guy sure has his finger on the pulse of America. Like we don't see his smarmy face enough every day. Maybe he's calling a prime-time presser to announce his resignation.

I disagreed with the viewers' decision to sent Alexis home. I thought it was too early for her to leave. I would miss her voice and singing. I understand why the judges didn't used the save but she was somewhat pitchy on the song (maybe she was nervous), but I was hoping that they would use it. I don't know if it is a good idea for the singer to sing to save themselves from elimination. The nerves might affect their singing.
I wasn't surprised that Micheal is staying because of his blue-collar background that America loves, plus he is a good singer.
I enjoyed the Carrie Underwood and Randy Travis' duet. What does anyone thinks of Carrie's hairdo? I actually liked it.

Bigger than Carrie? Bigger than Daughtry?
His problem is that he's very polarizing and his fan base is basically set at this point. The people that don't like him are supporting other performers and as those people get voted off, the likelihood that they'll flip to him is unlikely because all of the reasons they didn't like him are still there. He'll do well for the next few weeks. My prediction is that he'll be the judges "save" at some point.

There's always going to be people who don't like the frontrunner. But the reason you hear so much from these people is because they're responding to the large amount of support for Lambert. Look at any of the A.I. message boards. They're filled with posts discussing how talented Adam is, and of course, the haters have to join in.
His primary competition on this show is Gokey. I enjoy Gokey's singing, and his back story is certainly heartwarming, but I would never buy anything he sang. Lambert has a voice that is comparible to rock's greats, such as Plant, Mercury, and yes, I'll say it, Elvis.

American Idol Odds: Adam Lambert best odds to win American Idol
The American Idol 13 are now officially 11, after in the last elimination round Jorge and Jasmine were voted off, following the record 33 million votes. Clearly at this stage of American Idol 8 the ratings of the show are going through the roof and the sports betting websites as usual are quick to jump on the American Idol odds wagon. Ever since the show began in January it was impossible to see any American Idol odds posted by reputable sportsbooks on the grounds that the Season 8 will not be as popular as the American Idol has been in the past. I guess people proved them wrong - 33 million votes for the top 13 was an record-breaker and the odds makers are now scrambling to correct their mistake.
The online sportsbook BodogLife is once again the first to publish odds on who will win the American Idol season 8, after the top 13 went down to just 11 contestants. The bookie now goes with the public and the blogs, making Adam Lambert from California the favorite to win American Idol with odds 7/4. For those AI fans who just want to know what the betting community thinks of the contestants, the 7/4 odds on Adam Lambert mean that people will win $70 for every $40 bet on Adam to win American Idol. Danny Gokey from Wisconsin is the second favorite, coming close with odds 11/4 to win Season 8 of American Idol and Lil Rounds from Tennessee is the third most likely American Idol contestant to win this season with odds 5/1 on her success. The rest of the contestants will pay on double digit odds with Michael Sarver being the American Idol underdog with long odds 40/1 on clinching the recording contract.

If you've followed Idol for more than this season, you know that Dial Idol always gets a bit gimpy early in the competition - particularly once you're down in the group a bit.
But Dial Idol is always fairly spot on with who the frontrunners are - last year it pretty much flipped between the two Davids from day one.

Adam certainly did the best job last night and I think if he did more performances like this he would increase his fan base - although I wasn't too into the "let's look like Alec Baldwin" thing he was working last night.
2nd best performance i'd have to give to Allison - she really is amazing for a 16 year old.
The rest were fairly average. Probably the biggest dissapointment was Lil. I completely agree with the judges that this could have been her "moment" but she blew it. Also, she really needs to work on her innunciation - she sounds like she has a mouthful of grits half of the time.
And seriously, whoever is dressing Michael was just being cruel last night.

This is serious relating to the show. Those you who are not familiar, CBS Television City frequently has Dancing with the Stars (Cappleman 46) , American Idol (Cappleman 36), and The Price Is Right (Barker 33) taking place at the same time. Yesterday was a heavily fortified Television City because of the 1 PM Ultimate Baby Shower, 4 PM Bob Barker's Return, and 5 PM American Idol.
Security was beefed up at CBS Television City in light of a stalker going after Olympic gymnastics champion Shawn Johnson. The stalker seemed to target Charles Cappleman Studio 46.
This will affect Idol contestants, since their security will be beefed up as they head towards CBS Television City. Remember that on Price days they have special entrances to avoid the massive crowds that are normal for the older of the two RTL (German television network) game shows that are held at 7800 Beverly Blvd in Los Angeles. (Idol and Price are RTL shows.)

Lambert has a voice that is comparible to rock's greats, such as Plant, Mercury, and yes, I'll say it, Elvis.
He's good. He's really good. But he's no Mercury and definitely not Elvis.
If I saw anyone in concent more than anyone else as a teen/young adult, it was Freddie and Queen. Freddie was theatrical but he was a rocker FIRST and that is what came out.
Adam is theatrical FIRST and that is what comes out for me.
As to Elvis? I just don't think so unless it was Elvis in his bloated over the top, last days. He didn't start out that way. Elvis was a singer FIRST.
It's like Adam is trying to start out a king before he produces anything. Now he does have an amazing voice, and has hit some notes that only animals can hear, I'll certainly give him that. But it's like he's trying on the laurels before he's earned them. That is what I meant by ego.
A great performer puts out energy to the audience, to me, Adam is sucking it IN towards himself. It's the very reason why he's darn near impossible to watch. Last night was the first time I could make it through an entire performance of his without looking away.
Again, great voice and a lot of creativity. If he put a bridle on the ego, perhaps he could do something great. But you have to DO something before someone rewards you as a star.
Btw, I have to laugh at the first part of your post:
There's always going to be people who don't like the frontrunner. But the reason you hear so much from these people is because they're responding to the large amount of support for Lambert.

The people who don't like Lambert may not like him because they don't enjoy his performace. Why insult them to insinuate that they're sticking their finger in the wind? Becuase you may just say the same thing about Lambert's fans. Jumping on a bandwagon versus supporting music that they enjoy.
It's ridiculous.
The whole point of the show is for people to vote for what they like. Some viewers are going to like what he does and some are not going to like it. Both are valid positions to take.

My ratings for last night's performances:
1. Adam Lambert - "Tracks Of My Tears" - This was in another league from the rest of the group.
2. Matt Giraud - "Let's Get It On" - Solid and soulfull.
3. Anoop Desai - "Ohh, Baby Baby" - Who knew that this guy could sing??
4. Kris Allen - "How Sweet It is To Be Loved By You" - Took a very familiar song and sang it in a new and very good way.
5. Danny Gokey - "Get Ready" - Once my favorite to win, he is becoming a bit predictable, but still good.
6. Allison Iraheta - "Papa Was A Rolling Stone" - I still can't stand this girl, but she can sing.
7. Lil Rounds - "Heat Wave" - I was very disappointed in her performance. The judges were exactly right in saying she could have had a defining moment last night.
8. Megan Joy Corkrey - "For Once In My Life" - Another of my early favorites that is now falling flat. Her only saving grace is that Sarver is worse.
9. Scott McIntyre - "You Can't Hurry Love" - Very weak. I wonder how much longer his handicap will get him through.
10. Michael Sarver - He should have been the one to go home last week, but he will be gone this week.

IMO, Megan's vocals last night were terrible. She was off key and looked awkward (as usual) on stage. She needs to go. I was disappointed in Michael's performance as well but he still had better vocals than she did. Bottom three will be Michael, Megan, and Scott.
I don't have a clue as to who is going home.

I agree 100% with this part of your post Jeepers!
Actually...I agree with all of your post.
Somehow because I don't think Adam is the greatest thing since friggin sliced bread...I am a hater? :)) Kinda reminds me of all the people who bust out the "you're just jealous" if someone criticisizes a famous person.
Turn on any Top 40 station and it is full of people who sound exactly like Adam...there is nothing unique about his style.
Does he have a good voice? Absolutely!
But to compare him to Freddy Mercury and the others he was comared to is laughable.

That's the beauty of music. Not everyone agrees on everything. it is a highly subjective artform. I think we are witnessing the birth of a mega star in Adam, but it's OK with me if folks disagree with that. Time will prove me right.:razz::cool:

Matt Giraud: Let's Get It On
Best Male Performance. That was the best he’s done yet and was just the sound his voice, style, talent needed to move him to the top.
Kris Allen: How Sweet It Is
I don’t even remember him from last night. Not impressive enough for me. Again with the guitar but no mike, no amp, no sound.
Scott MacIntyre: You Can’t Hurry Love
I think we’ve witnessed the best he can do and that is indeed sub-par for the competition.
Megan Corkery: For Once In My Life
I like her and I do believe her fans will vote to keep her in but, she is not improving in her performances.
Anoop Desai: Ooh Baby Baby
Yeah, his voice sounded ok but it really was a weak performance.
Michael Sarver: Ain’t Too Proud to Beg
I agree with Simon…he’s just going through the motions of being on the show. No star for you.
Lil Rounds: Heat Wave
She is one of the best singers on the show and this was her week to shine…but, she blew it. She let down a lot of people with that song. She was screaming. It was overdone.
Adam Lambert: The Tracks of My Tears
I know it was good and all and hes got more talent than most all the others but, I’m just not liking him for him. I actually laughed uncontrollably in a burst of shock when they showed him in his “suit” before he sang. I’m not sure who he was trying to emulate with that but he actually looked a little like Chris Isaac. (whom I do like)
Danny Gokey: Get Ready
Not a good show from him. Another example of trying to hard to kick it up a notch instead of just making the best of his talent.
Allison Iraheta: Papa Was a Rolling Stone
Best Female Performance. I really am likening her singing voice. With tonight’s song she really let it out…she brought it. I was enjoying her on stage and even thought I saw some Kelly Clarkson in her. The audience was on their feet so it must have been even better live.

I would really like to see him change things up a bit....take a lighter approach one week...show he has some versatility.

(Idol and Price are RTL shows.)
http://townhall.com/news/entertainment/2009/03/26/man_arrested_at_dancing_with_the_stars_studio
I heard about the stalker trying to get access to Shawn Johnson and the security issue with the studios. I don’t think it will be any different to the idol contestants or any participant in the other studios than any other incident. Its going to happen from time to time and the shows always go on.
Stars and performers get crazy people for fans all the time and the men & women working security on location as well as local law enforcement can handle any situation seamlessly. They should be applauded.

Adam is getting compared to a lot of different rock artists. When I first heard him sing on the show I thought of the lead singer from Judas Priest (Rob Halford) having that screeching high note capability. There was another band I wanted to compare him to but couldn’t think of the name…I finally remembered who it was:
Justin Hawkins of “The Darkness.” He has that same high tone squeaky squeal range.
Go listen to their tune "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" on your favorite player and see if you believe it could as well be Adam Lambert singing exactly the same.

I just worry that if he wins...in say 5 years when the style of music he does is out of style...what happens to him?
Alot of the other contestants have a more mainstream thing going on....and in the long run that will help keep them in the music industry,
because teeny pop and country have not and are not going to go into obscurity.

I'm sad to see Micheal go, even though it was time for him to go. He sang better Thursday than he did on Wednesday night. He acted his departure well.
I don't like the way the show handles the judges' save. Why can't the show have a commercial break after the performance for the judges to make a decision? Maybe even delaying the next show by two minutes. Just wondering.
I liked the duet by Joss Stone and Smokey Robinson as well as Ruben Studdard and Stevie Wonder.
I was surprised that Matt was in the bottom three. I think it was because he was the first to perform on the show. I'm glad that Megan is still on the show.

Did anyone catch Megan almost fall down while whooping it up for Stevie? Great stuff.
I'm finding it somewhat annoying that the group numbers are not performed live - isn't that the whole point of the show?
Did anyone else think that Stevie sounded horrible?

Stevie's song choices were lousy, his performance was lackluster, and the injection of his politics into the medley was a detrimental distraction to the show. I would have been happier if they had just showed another Ford commercial in his place.

Jesus, the hyperbole these days....Have an opinion that is different and you're going to get the trite cliches instead of someone contemplating that opinion and seeing how one could come to that conclusion, if they disgree in the final analysis. It's really adolescent to think that everyone has to agree with you. It's also a futile thing. Music and art appreciation is about as subjective as it gets. It's in the eye (and ears) of the beholder.
There is also this over the top response to something new that some find 'good'. It's like Madison Avenue on crack. Can't just say someone is good they have to be GREAT FABULOUS WONDEFUL AMAZING NEVER SEEN BEFORE...even if they aren't.
Compare it to Obama...he's the freaking second coming of Lincoln and he hadn't spent a day in office...Adam is Elvis! is basically the same thing to me.
Predicting that someone MAY do great things is not the same thing as stating that they ARE doing great things when they haven't gotten out of the starting gate yet.

Insisting that I have to appreciate Adam would be like my almost 80 year old mother insisting that I have to appreciate Perry Como.
My husband, who actually likes Adam, agrees with the ego issue thing. Like he's Mick Jagger. But I said, but Mick Jagger was no one until he was Mick Jagger. You have to be Mick Jagger to be Mick Jagger, kwim? LOL
Btw, I don't like Mick Jagger either. He's frankly, icky. Best friend in high school thought he was hot. He was a cross between disgusting and giving me the creeps. Never bought his music. Rolling Stones weren't mah thang. I can appreciate their legacy but that's as far as it goes. I also think that they shoudl retire. Mick is a little long in the tooth to try to do sexually charged music. It's like Madonna. Put some clothes on already...:))

See...I disagree about the Mick Jagger thing...love him and the Stones. Saw them in concert a couple of years ago and they are a day to the grave but still more entertaining than the artists around now-a-days.
