Now that the season is over, we can spend more time talking about recruiting. The top two sites are scouts inc. and rivals. I prefer rivals. They seem to be more accurate and I like their layout better.

Rivals right now have LSU with the #1 recruiting class. http://rivals100.rivals.com/teamrank.asp?SID=880

Go Vols! Lane Kiffen said we are putting a fence up around the state of TN, so any recruits located here are OURS!!!!

Recruiting classes are meaningless unless the program develops the players. How good have Notre Dame's classes been?

That's true, but I find it fun to look at who is suppose to have the best recruiting class. It's also important to remember that these are just some peoples projections. We really don't know if they 5 star recruiting are really the best of that years recruiting classes.

It's kind of like the pre draft stuff. For every Peyton Manning, there is a Ryan Leaf. It's even harder at the High School level, as there is so much discrepancy between districts, cities, counties, and states.

With National Signing Day, 48 hours a day I thought this would be a good time to bump this thread.

Watching ESPN's recruiting coverage right now. So far the big story is that Notre Dame got the #2 overall recuit. He was considered by many to be a lock for USC.

Here's rivals list of the top schools. http://rivals100.rivals.com/teamrank.asp?SID=880

Scouts inc. also has a listing, but I like rivals better.

Florida looks to be in good shape...they did loose some talent to other schools but that had allot to do with the ton of players they have already.:D

ESPN is saying that Florida is not having a real good class this year and that Florida State and Miami has a good chance on passing them in terms of recruiting classes, but that is to be expected since they have some many underclassmen who are starting. That said Rivals has them as at #5.

While watching the recruiting coverage, when it came to Michigan they had Sam McGuffie as one of their biggest losses. I didn't even know that he transferred. Anyone know where he transferred to.

I saw FSU snaked Greg Reid out from under Georgia and Alabama. Good to know they can still pull talent even with a weird coaching situation.

I heard two reasons. 1. Family 2. Offense. The Rice choice makes me think the former.

Odd day for USC; they lost out on the top LB, one of the highest rated prospects this year, Manti Te'o, to Notre Dame. I'm sure that he had his reasons, but it's a bit of a head-scratcher to me; Notre Dame has struggled of late, and has not exactly been a pipeline ( :) ) to the NFL, although there isn't any question about their academics that I know of. (Of course, there isn't about USC's either.) I would assume that they assured him that he would not have any problems with his Mormon mission...

They also lost out on the second rated LB in Vontaze Burfict, who is going to Arizona State instead. The rumor is that his grades were the problem, but I haven't heard anything for certain... Still, a surprise to go to a school that is not known for their program anywhere near the same way, opposed to a team that is in the running for national championships every year, and just lost all three starting linebackers to the draft...

They do seem to be pulling in some that most thought that were locks for somewhere else, though.

The program will be fine, they have a ton of blue-chippers on scholarship, but it may be a down year, recruiting class-wise. Of course, a down year lately is anything not in the top 10... :)

There are several different outlets who rate the classes...

ESPN has LSU #1......

Lots of strong classes this year...

Be interesting to see if these players are as good as they are expected to be. It looks like, USC, LSU, Alabama and Ohio State were the big winners. We'll just have to wait and see how these players do when they get a chance to play.

The usual suspects almost invariably do well when recruiting, although, of course, the proof of the pudding is what happens after they arrive at a school. Notre Dame is a good example of that recently...

No kidding, this is the 4th straight year that they have had a top ten recruiting class, and yet they don't look good on the field.

My guess is that Weis, who dodged a bullet this season, will not return if the results are anywhere near what they have been lately. Institutions like Notre Dame don't usually take kindly to highly-ranked recruiting classes tanking on the field...

Personally, as a USC fan, I'd like to see him stay a while longer, if only to continue their recent run. :)

As a Michigan and Michigan State fan, I agree with that statement. Plus I am so sick of Notre Dame being the media darling.

It's really hard to evaluate these kids until you see them on the field at the college level, but some people had them as a top ten class, while others had them ranked in the top twenty.

For the year that they had on the field, you have to be pretty happy with it, IMO. There will come a day in the next few years that they will be able to recruit to the level that they were once used to, but not quite yet.

Rodriguez is really good at recruiting to his system (ex: he was the only D-1 coach who wanted Pat White to be a QB), so don't read too much into the rankings.
