My youngest 17 year old son has suffered an accidental gun shot wound to the head. I am posting this from Hunstville Hospital ICU waithing room. The foklks are very nice here. he was transfered here from a smaller hospital. He has undergone brain surgery and all they will tell us at this point is that things are not looking good, and that if he does survive there is certainly severe brain damage. The good part is the bullet only passed through about 1/3 to 1/2 of his brain but there is damage.
It doesn't get any worse than this my friends. THis is the worst life has to offer. He was with friends and there was a firarm is all we really know. The cops say there is not foul play and I have spoken to the boys present. Yall I'm sorry I can't talk about it right now.
Please pray for Mitchell, things are not looking good for him.
God bless,
Jeff

Praying.
Always
For and in everything
For this is the will of God, that we should pray and see His deliverance
The LORD our God, who died in Jerusalem, was resurrected in Jerusalem, and endures forever at the right hand of the Father -- He is surely with Mitchell and will deliver Mitchell from all evil.

Please pray abotu this
Put your trust in the LORD, not in docs and nurses, brother mine.
HE knows exactly what's going on inside Mitchell's skull -- and He's got it totally under control.
And we're praying for miracles to knock those docs flat on their keesters so they too can see and know the deliverance that comes only from Christ.
Hang tough in faith, never doubting.

Please God strengthen and heal Mitchell.
Guide the Doctor's hands and help them be thorough in their endeavor to repair the life of this child.
Please be with jwil and his loving family in this great time of need.
Pour your blessings of comfort, strength, and healing upon jwil and his family during this great time of need.
Amen
I wish I could offer more my friend. Our little group will be here to support you as you have supported so many of us.

Hello Jeff,
You won't be hearing much for awhile. You will get worse case scenarios for days or longer This will try You and your Family dearly. I have no doubt that you are a Man of great Faith. Every precious ounce of that Faith will be needed along with prayer to the Good Lord. I know these prayers work. I just know.
God knows exactly who you are. He's heard you countless times. I know he is urgently hearing from you now as He is fom me and many others. Mitchell is in a place right now that I consider Holy. He is not alone at all in that Holy place. I somehow know that.
My Love and heartfelt feelings are with You and Mitchell and your entire Family. May the Good Lord please help.

I will put you on our prayer list at church. I'm so sorry.

Thank you all so much. I love you all.
There are only 4 computers here and lots of families so I cannot respond to everyone or the all the PMs at this time. Please know how gratefull we are though and how much I love you guys.
here is ther latest. Mitchell's brain is swelling which is very bad. he has responded twice to day to commands. They asked him for a thumbs up and he did that two times, one time strongly and once weak. he has also responded to pain a couple time with one hand. They pinch his check and he swips their hand away. They say two times is better than none. The surgery last night went well, they removed some bone fragments that have damaged his brain and a blood clot. They keep telling us that he is nowhere near out of the woods and only time will tell. We get to see him for about 20 minutes every 3 hours or so. There is no pain in this world that could possibly match this, this is the worst life has to offer. I know some of you have been through this so you know what I am saying.
Please keep praying, we cannot let up. I humbly and thankfully ask that, and know that I love you for it
When we left last night for Huntiville, I asked God that Mitch would draw Dr Murray( a neurosurgeion) for the surgery and attending physican and that is what happened. Dr Murray is the best they have to offer.
It's in God's hands and I am good with that. Besides the prayer, I ask that each and every one of you pick somebody you love dearly tonight and hold them close, they could be gone tommorrow. Let that sink in and then go hold those folks, do it for me. Sumpin good has got to come from this.
I am also graqtefull for the stick, I will check back with you guys when I can. In the meantime you know what to do.

It's in God's hands and I am good with that. Besides the prayer, I ask that each and every one of you pick somebody you love dearly tonight and hold them close, they could be gone tommorrow. Let that sink in and then go hold those folks, do it for me. Sumpin good has got to come from this.
It's done my friend. Praying as hard as I can for Mitchell.

The cops say there is now foul play and I have spoken to the boys present. Yall I'm sorry I can't talk about it right now.
Please pray for Mitchell, things are not looking good for him.
God bless,
Jeff
I shall keep you and your family in my prayers...

Yes Goose thank you very much. Look bro, when all this is over, My sig line is your for a month
I do not have much to update. We did see Mitch a little bit ago and there is really no change. The fact that he is alive and has stable vitals is a direct result of God's grace. There are a detail or two that needs specialized prayer
1. - The danger is his brain swelling. We need to control that. The latest CT scan was this moring after the surgery, which of course looked better than the one before the durgery. There is like a white line on the CT that seperates the 2 sides of the brain from what I understand. That line was invisible before the surgery but not now. I think that is good but I dunno.
2. - This mornng early Mitch resonded to a comands like like telling him to thumbs up. That isn't happening anymore, probably an indication of brain swelling. We need that to happen to know his brain is still alive. He has resonded to some pain stimuli this afternoon which is good I hope. I might be repeating myself but I really cant think clearly right now yall. I want to add here that if you folks are not praying people then thoughts and vibes our way help too.
3 - This hospital has a big huge waiting room which combines all the patients families from all the different ICUS. They are great here, passing our blankets and pillows, drinks, and that sort of stuff . I met one guy in particular last night that has struck my heart. His 19 year old daughter was in an auto accident 8 days ago and until today had no brain function at all. He told me a little while ago that he had prayed that God forgive him today. Today his daughter is responding to commands and ven opened her eyes. There are many like him here, hearts broken beyond repair, people that don't have a relationship with God to fall back on. This particular guy and I are going to have a talk after everyone settles down in here. Every time you pray for Mitchell I ask that you also pray for his daughter Sarah. Also, please pray that the non-belivers in this room will see Christ through me. God often uses tradegy to call people to himself.
I will update more later. Another woman is wanting this computer I think.
God bless you all, I cannot even begin to say how much I am humbles by this reaction today. I have never ever brought anything to this board that would warrant two stickys about Mitch, but I will take it cause he needs the prayer. I am also feeling like a failure as a parent, which wikll not help anything right now but I cannot help it.
Please pray and send us you good vibes and thoughts. I cannot get this machine to copy and paste so would someone please paste this update in the WP sticky

In our prayers your family is there. We pray God's grace, strength and enduring compassion will light your way and lift your load. May you feel God's presence now more than ever. It is in the darkest of times and the lowest of valley's that we find our greatest strength. For this is the gift Christ. Love and Prayers
Just saw the update on his condition and will pray for those specific areas of concern to improve and for normal function to return.
SPending extended periods of time in a hospital envirnoment can take it's emotional toll on you and your family. Yet it is a place where your instinct is to spend every moment possible there. Do that but take a few moments to visit the newborns. Besure to spend sometime observing those who are going home. It is a wonderful way to breath faith into your prayer in ways that helps to make hte world make sense again.

A word of encouragement here, my son was clinically dead for eight days, no brain activity at all the machines were keeping him alive I refused to shut them off.
On the eighth day ( the Doctors were telling me to let go he was dead ) his daughter got on a chair and got right in his face and screamed at him. " I love you Dad come back to me"!!!
He turned his head in her direction and we knew he understood, he is now fine so hang in there buddy the first 48 hours are the worst.

Jeff I returned to post here and pray because of you and your need. I can't tell you how many times your prayers for others have brought me comfort. Many of us have shared how you have touched the lives of so many here at Hannity with your own faith and prayer and your always present kindness.
I can promise you that the prayers today, tonight and for as long as needed will be pouring up from here for you and Mitchell dear sweet man. You are a great father and a great friend to all. I am sure you are tired so please take care of yourself.
I have added your requested prayers including those for dear Sarah. Once again you are selfless even in your own moments of agony and worry. God bless you Jeff. God Bless Mitchell. We love you and are with you in spirit and in earnest heartfelt prayer.

God bless you all, I love you more than you will ever know
My thoughts are with you
You have always been and will always be one of my favorite people here

I'm new here, but am so touched by the postings of others about your witness for God, and for your love and concern for others.
I pray that God gives you strength to carry you and your family through this dark hour.
I pray that God will heal your son, and many bright days will be in all your futures.

When my son was in the ICU after his heart surgery, the biggest comfort was the other parents around--even if what their child had was completely different. And we called that room where all the relatives waited the holding cell.
For you and your son and your family.

You're a good lady with a big heart and a wonderful Mom. I too am feeling this pain. I have been praying and sharing with others. I like to believe that God works in mysterious ways and the heaviness of our hearts and the pain o many are feeling is our way of lifting some of the weight off the shoulders of our friend Jeff during his time of need. I will bear the ache if it makes his load lighter while he tends to his family and his son.

The promise of Christ.
And there are many more than two asking for healing and restoration of Mitchell's life.

That He is. He is the great physician. It is a blessing to come together in loving prayers and energy lifting up our dear friend, Mitchell, and Sarah. There are also a lot of people who have been in need here on Hannity, in one way or another. And its a blessing and inspiration to me, to know that the power of love and prayer is going out to all.

My deepest and most sincere condolences in your time of stress, jwil. Our kids are one of, if not the, most precious gifts that God graces us with. And furthermore, your son is very lucky to have you as a father. Hang in there, friend. And the next time you touch is hand, touch his hand for us as well. Prayers for your son, you and your family, and everyone who is need of God's power coming that way. Hang in there and fight, Mitch. We're all pulling for ya.

Jeff, I fully believe that God blesses those who pray for and bless others. In light of your always being one of the very first to pray for those of us here, I fully believe that your son is right now coming around with "full recovery". I pray it, I believe it and I take hold of it with all my faith. There's no other way.
Doctors are so wonderful, but the "Great Physician" is higher and has total healing power, more than all, as He gives to all. God, who cannot lie has said that "he's already healed", stand on it.

Hello Jeff,
Mitchell, You and your Family are so much in my prayers and my Family's prayers. T.O.M. asked me send his best regards. He knows exactly what you are going through. He is a Man of great Faith as are You.
I am posting two links that will help you to understand the brain and its functions. I know you are besides yourself in this. But these things will help through Mitchell's recovery.
http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/0503/feature1/index.html << This article is from the March 2005 Cover Story. It has helped me a great deal.
http://www.loni.ucla.edu/ <<UCLA is a pioneer in brain imaging and you will find a great deal of information here.
The Merck Manual of Medical Information has been a great source for me also. It has a whole section on the brain and brain injuries.
I have the Merck Manual and National Geographic Mag with that article; (it's extensive).
If you can provide me with an address to the Hospital Mitchell is in; I will overnight mail them both to your care. Just send me a PM and I will keep checking on it. The Merck manual is available @ Borders Book Store if that is easier.
You are in for a long road Jeff that You will travel with Mitchell. I will be with you on every step of that road.
Be well my Friend.

I wanted to bump the update so other forum members would not have to go through so many pages to find it.
We are all concerned as you can see by the number of responses to your posts.
Jeff, you are one of the most genuine posters on this forum. You are thoughtful, honest, and you are always there when any of us need a gentle nudge in the right direction or just words of support.
You are generous individual as you have demonstrated in this very thread. Even with the burden you now carry you take the time to request prayers for another. Maybe you do not realize how inspiring such an act really is...I'm sure your children would say...that's just Dad...he reaches out to others no matter what is happening in his own life.
Those qualities are the making of not just a good parent but a wonderful parent. I'm sure your children would tell you that they have been blessed to have you for their father.
So please do not beat up on yourself.
Please God,
Stop Mitchell's brain from swelling any further and reverse what swelling that has taken place as quickly as possible.
Grant him the strength to heal from this tragic accident.
While I'm asking, please help Sarah with her recovery from her accident.
And finally, comfort Jeff and his wife. Let them see that they have been good and faithful servants to you and as such have been wonderful parents to their precious children. Give them the strength they need to make it through this turmoil that has found its way into their lives.
Help this family God. They need you now more than ever. Carry them when they feel they and stand no longer, heal their precious son, and guide the doctors and nurses so that they may give the best care to Mitchell.
In Christ's most holy name I pray.
Amen
We love you Jeff. Hang in there...God is looking out for you.
