Another losing idea by our liberal friends. Truly these people are mentally challenged. Have they ever though about what would happen to US if we become highly dependent on corn based fuels and a major drought hits us? IDIOTS! God gave us all this oil and we smack Him in the face to use something "better"?

It sounds like you are just setting yourself up for crying and whining from the libs on this board.

I wonder if an ethanol plant could produce more ethanol than it consumed if it ran on nothing but ethanol.

No, that is "bottled gas". Them oldies but goodies have all the knowledge anyone could ever need.

since you're so in tune with the almighty's wishes,
what's his plan for when the oil runs out?

Let me counter your argument in another way.

Those mentally challenged republicans, god gave us the biggest brain on the planet and the ability to figure out how to keep the earth in harmony, yet they're too lazy to put their brains to good use and develop renewable energy. God was good enough to give us a jump start with some oil, and we smack him in the face by not using it's power to develop something more sustainable.

Maybe we should consult the bible:
Brother maynard?
"the book of fossil fuels"
"fossil fuels chapter one, verses 12-17" "...and the lord spake saying 'useth thee mine oil that i have gifted upon thee and maketh thou a better people with it, but take care for it shall not last'..." "and the lord did grin, and the people did feast on lambs and sloths, and pteridactyls and orangutans, and breakfast cereals..."

For those who are seriously interested in this topic and are not just here to pontificate politically, the September 2006 issue of Scientific America is entirely dedicated to "Energy's Future Beyond Carbon." It is an excellent overview of our energy options.

Obviously, I am more in touch with Him than you; since real God trusting people don't fear running out of anything we need. For the most part, only liberals fear running out of things since they don't know God. As far as oil is concerned, check into the abiotic oil argument which claims that oil is created from magma and not fossil fuels. If you know anything about the Bible, you would know that at the wedding in Caana, the wine ran out and Jesus simply turned jars of water into the needed wine. O ye of little faith! By the way, what are you going to do when that drought hits?

"Renewable energy" doesn't refer to ethanol - that is an alternative source of energy. "Renewable energy" refers to wind power, solar power, geothermal power, tidal power, et cetera.

Before making off-base criticisms, at least get the terminology correct.

Wait for Jesus to turn water into ethanol.

If you sit in a middle of a grocery store plopped on a desert island (the earth) and you eat food until it's gone, without anyone making 'deliveries' (more dead dinosaurs), sooner or later you're going to starve when it runs out.

It's stupid to just use what we have without making plans for what to do when the supply runs out, which it eventually will.

It would also be stupid to put our eggs into one basket with alternative/renewable energy, but it's the same damn thing that we're already doing with oil. Currently, all of eggs are already in that basket.

I don't see a black and white, either/or solution. I think that at least during a transitional period, it's going to be a combination of all of the ideas that we can come up with.

We need to get the off the oil train. We need to not be dependent upon foreign oil, but by that same token, need to not be dependent merely upon oil itself.

And the concept of having 10 eggs and then what to do about more 'food' when the eggs are gone is not a liberal or conservative issue. It's a practicality issue. It's called planning for the future. And since there currently isn't a 'renewable energy store' available, that means that we need to sock some funds into ongoing research on those ideas, because sooner or later, we're going to absolutely need them.
