This baby was beaten so badly there was blood splattered everywhere. She'd been beaten so often some of the blood was old.
I have no words. I am so ****ing angry and sad about this. I wish I had known.........
Syracuse, NY.-----Twenty-month-old Imani Jennings was beaten to death Friday because she had a potty-training accident, Syracuse police said this morning.
Detectives have charged Anthony Weakfall Jr., 15, of 124 Fage Ave. with her death. Police Chief Gary Miguel said Weakfall spent nearly an hour beating the toddler with a metal rod, a cable cord, bedsprings and his fists. He then left to attend Corcoran High School.
Imani's teen mother, Cherron Patterson,18,of 124 Fage Ave., returned home shortly before 3 p.m.Friday and found the youngster who was almost unrecognizable. She called 911.
Paramedics tried unsuccessfully to revive Imani, then pronounced her dead at the scene. It's unclear when she died. Patterson and Weakfall for several weeks had been leaving her alone in the apartment all day while they went to school.

Sick!! They should be shot! Barring that they should be sterilized so that if they ever get out of jail they cannot ever have any other children.

Tragic....what a waste...a horrific waste! That poor little girl! She didn't ask for anything...all she needed was love and a safe home environment. Dear God what is wrong with people?
Mom is 18....and boyfriend is 15? Am I reading this right? so Mom should be brought up on sexual assault charges as well for having an under aged relationship!
both deserve the book thrown at them! The callousness of beating a child to death and then leaving to go to school? Leaving this sweet child alone all day while Mom and boyfriend played teen agers? Where in the hell is this womans' family? Where are the grandparents?
Sick...just sickening...my stomach is rolling over.. Death penalty should be considered here...but won't due to boyfriend/abuser being a minor.....

At 15 and given the severity of the crime, he could easily be charged as an adult.

Did you see that "mom" is 6 months pregnant? The only problem is that the age difference is less than 4 years and NY law allows an affirmative defense. They will go down for the death of this child but thats probably all.

Autopsy of the little girl shows an ongoing pattern of abuse. Her biological father was filing for custody and said he had no idea about the abuse. He wasn't allowed to see the baby.

This happened about a half mile from my office. It truly is disgusting. I really hope the boyfriend has an "enjoyable" time in state prison.
The community vigils were held on Sunday night. The press interviewed the father and it was clear he was in shock.

This is truly disgusting. I can't think of anything that makes me angrier than seeing a child being abused - especially one so young. I certainly hope they lock these two up and throw away the key. There is no excuse for any human being doing this to a baby.

Things like this truly make me sick to my stomach. And our current laws are not strict enough on child abusers. In my opinion ANYONE who harms a child does not deserve to breath air! What is wrong with people? Does it really make people feel "Superior" to abuse an innocent child with no means of protecting itself? I love my Child more than life itself, and NOBODY in my life presently, or in the future would EVER come before him. I pray justice is served! Our laws have to start speaking up for those children who cannot do it for themselves.

Poor baby. How could anyone beat a child to death and then just clean themselves up and go to school?
My heart goes out to the biological father. This poor man will suffer from the what ifs for a very long time to come...what if I had pushed harder for custody...what if I had been given the chance to be the Dad I wanted to be?

:eek: No , I didn't see that in the article....Holy Moley! Did they state in the article who the father was? Would be a sealed case against the Mom for having underage sexual interactions with an underage boy unable to give consent by law.
I would never think to say this in any other case...but I hope they take her child, an put it up for adoption. She should rot in jail for her part of this tragic story...and that 15 year old boyfriend of hers should be brought to justice for the murder of that sweet baby.
Better yet...give them both the rusty needle..save everyone from ever having to deal with these two malfeasance individuals again. Cretans.....makes my stomach roll to even think about them...

Do you think they will actually charge and put him on trail as an adult? He should be imo...but depending on the state...one never knows just how the justice winds blow...they may or may not put a kid on trail for this as an adult. Which means, he could be out by 21...debt paid to society.
Especially if his defense lawyer points out that his client is a victim of sexual abuse. In context..it may just be the sliver of open door that gets this kid to juvie instead of the rusty needle he deserves!
Whole thing is just gross...sick...perverse and twisted!

She's 18 years old with a 20-month old baby. Add in the nine months it takes to bake a bun in the oven and she was probably getting pregnant at 15 years old herself.

Dysfunctional....yeah...you could say that again. With her 20 month old baby...thought the kid was 16 months old...would put the Mother...so called Mother...at around 16 to 17 when she had her first kid. So where were the cops to lock up the father of said child to under aged mother of first born?
It was posted that the father of this poor baby was trying to get custody of his child. That he wasn't even allowed to see it. So it makes ya wonder, what brain trust thought this woman was a better parent then the biological father of the child was? I mean, leaving a baby alone all day while she's out doing God's knows what is ok....but the father isn't a fit parent why? Didn't have a good enough job to pay his child support? Not enough medical? Other then being as bad a parent as the mother...which there is no evidence of such ..since he wasn't allowed to even see the child...what else could some brain trust social worker based his/her/ opinion on?
Whole thing just reeks to me....throw those two in a room with no windows and let um rot.

I was potty trained by 18 months.
I started slowly with my daughter at around 18 months, but basically just getting her comfortable with the potty chair and such - didn't expect her to produce and certainly didn't expect perfection from her!!
I know potty training can be frustrating, but to beat a child because she has an accident?
Babies having babies. Where was the family? I was a baby (17) when I had my daughter. I am so thankful that I had my family around me. Once they got over the shock and dismay of my "oops", I had a very supportive family. Maybe these kids didn't have any support - still doesn't excuse their behavior. I hope this scumbag pays severely for what he has done.

Daycare provider Diane Shakir charged with not reporting abuse in Imani Jennings case
by Douglass Dowty / The Post-Standard Tuesday December 02, 2008, 3:49 PM
SYRACUSE, NY - The daycare provider for a 20-month-old girl who was found beaten to death in her home has been charged with failure to report suspected child abuse, a misdemeanor.
Diane Shakir, who runs All-Star Daycare on Hatch Street, took photos of Imani Jennings' bruises but did not report the suspected abuse as required by law for licensed daycare providers, said Onondaga County District Attorney WIlliam Fitzpatrick.
A new employee at the daycare first reported the bruises to Shakir who decided not to call authorities, Fitzpatrick said. Shakir told Jennings' mother, Cherron Patterson about the bruises, Fitzpatrick said. Patterson stopped bringing Jennings to the daycare that day, Syracuse Police Chief Gary Miguel said.
About two weeks later, Jennings was found beaten to death in her Fage Avenue apartment. Patterson's boyfriend, Anthony A. Weakfall Jr., 15, has been charged with second-degree murder. Patterson is facing charges

I don't get why Shakir didn't go to authorities. She had pictures for proof, the mother had already pulled baby Imani out of day care so there's no danger of her losing business, and she knew the law.
Now the chances of her ever having a day care business again rank right up there with Osama Bin Laden opening an airport.
The only good thing is the prosecutors now have pictures to document the abuse.
Too bad they didn't have those pictures soon enough to save a little girl's life.

There's literally murder to pay here. This kind of case is exactly why we need to keep the Death Penalty as an option. Some things are so broken they just have to be disposed of.

Seriously, if I were this little girls real father, i'd be hoping this 15 year old punk parasite got treated as a juvenile......because the day he hit the street at 18 or 21, or whenever they let him go, would be the last day anyone ever saw him again.

In my experience that is unusual. Though we do have a kid at my work that's around that age that shows he has interested in potty training, and is starting to recognize when he uses the bathroom in his diaper. So he very well may be potty trained by 2 and a half )potentially sooner) which is 36 months. Though I don't think I'd expect/predict success out of a kid at the 20 months mark. In fact any effort they could make towards it at all would surprise the hell out of me.

I know potty training can be frustrating, but to beat a child because she has an accident?
Bah it's not THAT frustrating. In the nursury at work we were potty training 4 boys at the same time. Down in the preschool, kids have accidents at least 3 times a week, big deal.I can say thta since i"m usually the one that has to deal with it. Seriously, that woman had some RIDICULOUS expectations. She (and some other people in this world) really needs to get it through her skull that little kids have accidents, and the less time they've been potty trained the more likely it is, yes it's inconvienent for you, but life is inconvienent, get over it. Getting ticked off about it doesn't help the situation. You can't just go around beating kids. It's against the law, period. I mean how simple is that to understand. I mean you don't even have to think about it from a moral standpoint if you can't do that, it's WELL KNOWN that beating your kid is AGAINST THE LAW, and that if you severly injure or kill the child your ass is in deep ****. It's not like society has swept child abuse under the rug these days. It's openly talked about, shown in the media, legislated agianst, talked about in damn near any parenting class, etc...the information is accessible to ANYONE. How can society lay it out ANY more simply? People like this just make me really wonder.
Maybe these kids didn't have any support - still doesn't excuse their behavior.
Some people can have all the support in the world and still be failures as human beings. But, I suppose in this case we'll never know.

I'm looking at this and going "wow she had actual EVIDENCE, that must be nice" some of us could only be so lucky. Let me tell you, having evidence is a lot easier to deal with than having to go on a suspicion, or hearing a one time odd remark from a child and having to piece together and dig for info on where the comment is coming from. If she had real suspicion or evidence she should have been first in line to call.

It's really not that hard for a custodial parent to get away with not letting the other parent see the child(ren), atleast for some period of time. It takes a good attorney and a lot of money to fight it. The courts are over loaded with the number of cases.

If you have legal documentation that PROVES youh ave visitation, that is a legally binding document, and it seems like it's a DIRECT order from the judge. It would seem to me a police officer SHOULD be able to enforce it, if the documentation is provided. though I doubt it works that way.

Sometimes the police will help, some times they will not.
One of several circumstance I know of was with my youngest brother and his ex-wife. After their divorce, she moved in with a boyfriend. No one in either of her family or the boyfriend's family would say where they were. The was in Santa Fe, the police, city gov, state gov etc up there is all staffed by old family.. to include her family and the boyfriend's family. It took my brother 2 years to get the courts to act. He had to do it in Albuquerque where family is not as much a deal. She did not even get a slap on the hand for basically kidnapping and denying the child's father (my brother) from seeing the child.
We found where they were by going to Santa Fe and pulling the boyfriends divorce and court papers relating to his family. Eventually we found the location of some mountain property.
I've known of other cases where people, usually mothers, have made similar disapearing acts in town and across states.

I think it's BS if they don't. If court papers say what a judge decided it's legally binding, and in my opinion that makes the police obligated to enforce it if necessary.

I think it's BS if they don't. If court papers say what a judge decided it's legally binding, and in my opinion that makes the police obligated to enforce it if necessary. No.......just because a judge makes a decision, does not mean it has binding per criminal law. There is a difference between civil and criminal law. A civil decision has binding, but to that judge, and often it's the judge who decides if the parties have abided by the terms, and mete out consequences for failure to abide by his order.
Meaning not EVERYTHING folks think the police have authority over do they have authority over........or, put another way, how do the police 'Enforce' something without it having criminal sanction?
Meaning, how do the police 'Enforce' something against you, that doesn't have a law saying if you don't do it, the police can arrest you for 'X'........'Contempt of Cop' is not a law, though I wish sometimes it were. ;)
Now, if a state has a law that says 'Once a child visitation agreement is signed by a judge, failure to abide by that order is a Class X misdemeanor, punishable by X, Y and Z' then the police can enforce it. Outside of that, how do you enforce something that doesn't have the force of criminal law behind it?

If you have legal documentation that PROVES youh ave visitation, that is a legally binding document, and it seems like it's a DIRECT order from the judge. It would seem to me a police officer SHOULD be able to enforce it, if the documentation is provided. though I doubt it works that way.
The binding part works like this........you are order to give visitation by the judge, these conditions are given......you don't comply. He files paperwork with the same judge saying that his original order was not met, he orders everyone back in, he gives new conditions, with an order to abide.
Ultimately the judge is the one who determines whether or not his orders have been met, and what the consequences are for not abiding by them.
Some states do have 'Interference with custody' laws, and others don't......and those that do very considerably on what they consider 'Interference' and 'Custody'.

Even if the judge orders everyone in, that doesn't make everyone show up because different states have different extradition rules. For example Arizona will not extradite for anything less than a Class 2 Felony. It's a lot of work and money to send officers across state lines to go get a bad guy and you can't use FedEX to ship a crook so only the baddest bad guys get the extradition treatment.
Crooks know this so if they don't want to show up for a judge's rebuke they'll just flee the State, especially if they have no family ties or stake in the community.

I think the saddest part of all, is that if this had been a puppy golden retriever who had been beaten for two weeks over a paper training issue, it would have become a national story ad nauseam.
Every media personality would have been flown in to Syracuse to cover the story.
Meanwhile because it's only a human baby here, I find out about this story on hannity.
wow.

Ya'll aren't going to believe this. On Tues, March 17, a judge ordered Social Services to bring mom's newborn to the jail once a week so mom could "bond" with the baby. :wall::wall::wall:

Mom sentenced earlier this week.
"I don't blame anybody but myself for letting this happen," Patterson tearfully told Walsh in court. "I should have stopped this, but I didn't. I should have gotten her out of this sooner, but I didn't."
 PUH-LEEZE! She beat the toddler herself on other occasions. Her phony tears don't impress me.

So she got 1 3/4 to 4 years for taking part in the beating death of her own daughter?!
No wonder some of the comment was so emotional.
She most likely will not serve more than 2 years of that sentence.
Doesn't it warm your heart to know that her new baby will be waiting for Mommy dearest to take custody once she gets her feet on the ground.:wall:

In a neighboring county, the child services office is under attack because it stood by and let another girl die at the hands of her step brother (Erin Maxwell case).
The State of New York's answer - why we're going to give them $500K so they can figure out what went wrong.

This is so sickening. She had a "potty training accident"??? She was 20 months old, for cripes sake. It's a little early to train and expect perfection.
That poor, poor baby. So often is the mom and a boyfriend.
