A warm welcome to the Religion Forum! We have people of all faiths participating here—from Orthodox beliefs—to those who prefer a more independent approach to religion—and, of course, agnostics and atheists. This thread is intended as a place to laugh, to unwind between debates, and to chat with your fellow Religion Forum debaters.
If you are new, we are happy you joined us. Tell us a little about yourself. If you live in RF (as I pretty much do) here’s the new place to get to know others better and chat without taking a Religious thread off topic.
Besides laughter and fellowship, here is what else you might bring to this thread:
• More laughter
• More fellowship
• Devotionals, poetry, prayers, prayer requests
• Inspirational quotes and stories
• Summarize an interesting thread (here or in other Hannity Forums)
• Tell us about a meaningful homily you recently heard
• Music!
• Personal Stories and Testimonies
• Religion Forum Post of the Week (or even the day)
• If you have another particularly brilliant idea, let’s add it to this list!
As a reminder to all of us, and a must read (http://forums.hannity.com/showthread.php?t=68516)for those new to the Religion Forum, here is the:
<Link to Our Beloved Rules of Respect in RF> (http://forums.hannity.com/showthread.php?t=68516)
Keep in mind, too, the goal of this thread is clean, loving and friendly fellowship with one another. I could write a whole list of rules against bitterness, rancor, or getting too raunchy. However, whenever I think of rules, I remember the house rules a beloved friend said were framed in the entry hall of his college rooming house. With a one word change (from House to Thread), I think it will work well here:
THREAD RULES
Gentlemen need none
So, to both old and new friends: <Cheers!> (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6HI1pjfHlc) And, if you have any concerns feel free to send me a PM.

A current Religion Forum thread I'd like to comment on is Got a Good Religion Joke?.
We have had a little controversy over this thread. Summing up the positions:
1. Laughter is good for the soul.
2. Making frivolous jokes with Jesus (or God) at the center of them, is not reverent, it is a form of mockery.
3. It's different versions of about the same three-to-six jokes.
My opinion for the two cents it is worth: While I, personally, don't feel the joke thread is a mockery of God, I emphasize very well with people who do. Which one of us haven't been in a thread we feel mocks God or a scripture we care about? When that happens, don't we become Warriors in God or scripture's defense? Here is a thread where this is happening.
Second: We don't need to read every thread. The joke thread has been approved by Tislaw as appropriate for the Religion Forum. This does not mean we must read it; it can be ignored in favor of other threads.
Third: If there are only about six variations, the thread will fall off the Board fairly quickly. Patience is a virtue worth cultivating, and here's a chance.

One of the things that I am hoping happens quite often in Our Gathering Place is summarizing a lengthy thread. For example, yesterday I came home and saw Catholics Who Vote for Freedom of Choice Act Could Face Automatic Excommunication--and I haven't had time to read the nearly one hundred posts. Anyone want to clue me in with a brief synopsis of what its about and the positions being taken? I'd truly appreciate that.

Thanksgiving
As we approach this Thanksgiving Day, I am thankful in many a way. I could never thank God as much as I should, because of His love, because He is good! I am thankful for so many things. I really don't know where to start. Thanking God must come from the heart! I just want to thank Him for His light and His love, for sending His precious gift from up above. For loving and forgiving me and saving me from my sins. That is where I would like to begin. I just want to praise Him for food and clothes, for loving me more than anyone knows. for giving me a good place to lay my weary head. I just want to thank Him for my nice, warm bed. I would like to praise Him for my house and my home. For keeping me safe, wherever I may roam. I would like to thank Him for the church where I pray and the precious Bible that I read everyday. But most of all, for my precious family and friends and for giving me a love that knows no end! Š D.B.( I wrote this

When your heart has been broken and you feel like no one cares, come talk to me. I will be there. When you have cried a thousand tears and they still won't quit falling. Come to me, I hear you calling. Just lay your weary head on my chest. I am here for you. I will give you rest. Just reach out and take my hand. I am here, I understand. When you feel like you have lost your best friend, I will be here until the end. Tell me all your worries, tell me all your cares. I will be there to answer your prayers. I know life isn't easy, the road you travel is so hard and long. I will give you hope again. I will give your heart a song. But stop trying to carry the load. Stop trying to heal your land. Trust me, I have a plan. Although you may not see it, I have your best interest at heart. Just trust me to fill in the missing parts. Do not be discouraged when trouble comes your way. I promise you there will be brighter days. I know how it feels to be abandoned and unloved. But remember I am watching from above. Just when you feel like you have walked your last mile, i will come on the scene. I will make you smile. You never have to fight the battle alone. Follow me, I will lead you home. I will lead you away from this dry and barren land, high on the mountain where you can stand. Always remember I love you more than you can ever know. You must go through trials so you can grow! So grow for me and be a light and I will lead you to a land where there is no night!

Jesus hardly thought of Himself at all, so absorbed he was in the problems of others. He was approachable to children, to women, to the outcasts of society, even to despised lepers. He was never too busy for people. He always had time for them, however busy he was.
The common people heard Him gladly because they sensed the radiance of His openness. Jesus was even harborous to those who did Him wrong. Being approachable! It is the one trait that makes for a beautiful life.

Here is a prayer I have always liked, and it works for many different religious orientations. It's called "The Grace Prayer":
Grace Prayer
For thee I thirst,
Into Thy hands I commit my spirit
(My soul, my body, my life, this problem, all unforgiven states).
Thy will is my will.
Thy will be done through me.
Transform me at depth.
Reveal that which needs to be revealed.
Heal that which needs to be healed
so I can glorify You, God,
and live in the fullness of grace.
It is finished. I am grateful. Amen

Putting things in God's hands seems to be the starting theme for me today. CID provided me with a link to Pentecostal homilies (or perhaps that is a link to homilies given by a Pentecostal), and Kent Maddox had some startling things to say about submission. The theme was that by submitting to those in authority over one, God can then use that submission for His purposes in building our lives.
I may need CID and RayMan and gpd to come in and tell me what they think of the homily's thesis. What about you, Mikko? What do you think of submission?

Ah. I thought California had the bragging rights to utter chaos.
At Disneyland, there used to be an attraction called The 360 Degree Theater. Before you entered it, there was a waiting area, with flags hanging on all the walls. There was a flag for each state, but they weren't the "state flags" -- but the names of states presented in interesting graphics. To help pass the wait time, one of the cast members would point to a flag and ask people to figure out what state the flag was for (sometimes it was difficult to make out the letters because of how the graphics were done). Eventually the cast member would get to one flag, and there would be all sorts of guesses. He/she would eventually say, "Well, you are probably in this state right now" which would elicit shouts of "California!"....but it was always revealed that the flag was for the "state of confusion".....:D
So...NY can be chaos, and CA can be confusion!

:)) It's called "The Escape Clause".
But even at living longer than single men, they still usually die before their wives. Why?
Why do men die first? This is a question that has gone unanswered for centuries, but, now we know. It requires a bit of explanation, first:
If you put a woman on a pedestal and try to protect her from the rat race ... you're a male chauvinist.
If you stay home and do the housework ... you're a pansy.
If you work too hard ... there's never any time for her.
If you don't work enough ... you're a good-for-nothing bum.
If she has a boring repetitive job with low pay ... this is exploitation.
If you have a boring repetitive job with low pay ... you should get off your lazy behind and find something better.
If you get a promotion ahead of her ... that is favoritism.
If she gets a job ahead of you ... its equal opportunity.
If you mention how nice she looks ... its sexual harassment.
If you keep quiet ... its male indifference.
If you cry ... you're a wimp.
If you don't ... you're an insensitive jerk.
If you make a decision without consulting her ... you're a chauvinist.
If she makes a decision without consulting you, she's a liberated woman.
If you ask her to do something she doesn't enjoy ... that's domination.
If SHE asks you ... it's a favor.
If you appreciate the female form and frilly underwear ... you're a pervert.
If you don't ... you're gay.
If you like a woman to shave her legs and keep in shape ... you're sexist.
If you don't ... you're unromantic.
If you try to keep yourself in shape ... you're vain.
If you don't ... you're a slob.
If you buy her flowers ... you're after something.
If you don't ... you're not thoughtful.
If you're proud of your achievements ... you're full of yourself.
If you don't ... you're not ambitious.
If she has a headache ... she's tired.
If you have a headache ... you don't love her anymore.
If you want it too often ... you're oversexed.
If you don't ... there must be someone else.

Tongue in cheek evidence for both polygamy and monogamy from the Bible. (partial quotes, to alter their intent)
Evidence in favor of polygamy:
Gen 2:18 And the LORD God said, [It is] not good that the man should be alone;...
As any married man can tell you; women being the way they are, with only one wife, a man is going to be spending a LOT of time alone! Since it's "not good that the man should be alone", he's probably going to need more than one wife. ;)
On the other hand, as an argument against polygamy:
Mat 6:24 No man can serve two masters:...

hahahahaaa, reminds me of
NINE WORDS WOMEN USE
(1) Fine: This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up.
(2) Five Minutes: If she is getting dressed, this means a half an hour. Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.
(3) Nothing: This is the calm before the storm. This means something, and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with nothing usually end in fine.
(4) Go Ahead: This is a dare, not permission. Don't Do It!
(5) Loud Sigh: This is actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you about nothing. (Refer back to # 3 for the meaning of nothing.)
(6) That's Okay: This is one of the most dangerous statements a women can make to a man. That's okay means she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.
(7) Thanks: A woman is thanking you, do not question, or faint. Just say you're welcome. (I want to add in a clause here - This is true, unless she says 'Thanks a lot' - that is PURE sarcasm and she is not thanking you at all. DO NOT say 'you're welcome' . that will bring on a 'whatever').
(8) Whatever: Is a woman's way of saying **** YOU!
(9) Don't worry about it, I got it: Another dangerous statement, meaning this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking 'What's wrong?' For the woman's response refer to # 3.
this is how it came to me, is number 8 a problem if that's how it came?

Hubby and I have been married for almost 39 years. Sometimes, when someone will ask us how long we've been married, he will say in a mournful tone:
"It seems like we've been married for a hundred years!"
But I interrupt and say, "No, no. Actually, it seems like mere minutes. Under water."
....but the truth is, of course, that we choose each other every single day. And are happy with the choice each evening!
