He has experienced high heat and humidity before. He grew up in St. Louis, and we've been to Orlando several times. I just think he doesn't remember how miserable it is. He says he thinks shorts will be fine. I just remember feeling as though I had put on denim shorts right out of the washer. Sticky t-shirts. Ugh.

We will be taking those water bottles that have a fan attached next to the spritzer opening. I'd like to find something I remember hearing about some time ago: some sort of cold pack that you wear around the back of your neck. I seem to remember that if you can keep the back of your neck cool, you will feel cooler generally.

and your head. Wear a hat to keep the sun off and if you don't have to worry about a 'do' wet your head periodically.

I'm trying to make up for it, reading while preparing dinner. She might give me points for that, except I am making chili in 78 degree weather. Plus, it's my Cincinnati chili recipe. (The good recipe, CID, not that yuck that calls for cocoa, vinegar, tomato sauce and the like.)

ok, I just read up on what Cincinnati Chili is. Basically, it's what we use as hot sauce on hot dogs and hamburgers and my husband's is amazing. We don't use vinegar or 3/4 of the stuff that i've seen in the recipes. You know it's right if a) you walk in the house and cough or b) if you've been there the entire time he's cooking it, you taste it and cough. lol

it is ass-kickin' stuff and it's amazing.

We lived in Erlanger and Florence. Husband worked just across the river in Cincinnati. I'll keep an eye on the Bengals this next season, and we'll see.

Too bad I can't beam you some of my Cincinnati chili. I would not claim that any Cincinnati chili could beat a true Texas chili, but I am confident you would say, "Not bad. Pretty good, in fact."

It is the home of my grandmother and grandfather from my mothers side. I still have relatives there. My grandmother and great aunts went north to build planes and tanks at the automotive plants during WWII. Some stayed and some went back to Kentucky after the war. I used to go to the Mammoth Cave as a young boy and always enjoyed it while visiting relatives.

Isn't it a measure of both spouses of how well we live with the other's weaknesses, what we build together despite our weaknesses? It is.

How is your husband to travel with? When it comes to traveling, I couldn't ask for a better traveling companion. I've always thought it too bad we can't travel more.
It depends....He is okay to travel with if it is just him and me, because I usually just say "ok" to whatever he wants. He is not as fun to travel with if we have others along, because then he feels he actually has to see if others want to do what he wants to do, too. That makes him not quite so happy, but he doesn't express that to the other people...only to me...*LOL*

Near Bowling Green right?

I didn't get a chance to do that, the only time I was that far south was on the way to Louisville and on the way back to Alabama...never had much time for sightseeing since I was working so much...

I did get a chance to go to a couple of distilleries (Jim Beam and Maker's Mark) Churchill Downs, the Kentucky Horse Park, and the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace...sounds like a lot, but not really when I was there for six months.

There is not much of the cave that is beautiful. There is a section called the Crystal Cavern if I remember that is breath taking. Most of the cave is just massive in size and depth and scope. Some parts you take a boat through an underground river. There are large rooms underground. There is still an native indian that died while exploring and is preserved because of the temperature and no bacteria or bugs. It's an interesting tour with many different segments. It was supposedly discovered by Daniel Boone while chasing a wounded bear.

There's another section where there's this huge rounded door...the room is where they believe they kept the moonshine still...they said that a scene from either one of the Tom Sawyer or Huckleberry Finn movies was filmed in that room because the director thought the door was so unique and would be perfect for the film.

I have always lived in or very near a large metropolitan area. Eleven years ago I moved to the country. Mostly wooded areas and farm land. There are very few fences dividing yards because in most cases your neighbor is several hundred yards away. It has been a refreshing change. There wasn't anything wrong with the city but I am enjoying this new way of life. The wife isn't quite so enthusiastic. "Green Acres" would paint a pretty accurate picture.

I wonder if it would bring in enough to help pay for the site? However, a Hannity Forum Cookbook isn't such a bad idea. Rather than selling them, we could start collecting recipes, compile them, and then give it as a holiday gift to everyone here.

That's another item you can add to the list of things I don't do. I don't hold grudges and I don't cuss. If my car acts up, I sit down with it and patiently explain behavior I expect from a car, after which the car sees things my way.

I shouldn't tease. The teenaged years with my daughters were a very positive experience. The last half of their eighth grade year was the worst. It was kind of like they were on the top rung of childhood and thought they were pretty hot stuff--but at the beginning of their ninth grade year they realized they were on the very bottom rung of adulthood. Patience with them in their eighth grade year pays off during the rest of their teens--or so it proved for me.

I was lucky there. Neither of my girls wore much make-up, and they never made clothes an issue, either. My issues were getting one daughter to stay up and do homework; for the other to put her homework away (3 a.m.) and go to bed.

For my daughter's 12th birthday, I took her to the spa to get a manicure, a pedicure, and lessons on how to properly put makeup on so that it ENHANCES, but looks natural. She now at 15 says that she'd rather sleep in before school than put on makeup, she saves makeup for special occasions like dances and pictures. It was the best hundred dollars I ever spent. I knew if I tried to teach her makeup, or let her try to learn it on her own, it would end up being a big fight...this way it was a fun day for us to spend together and she still learned what I wanted her to learn. :)

Both of my boys have always been protective of their little sister. Well, except when boy number two used to try and kill her when he was six and she was four, but I digress.

Her first "date" at the age of twelve involved meeting a shrimpy twelve year old boy from up the street for a matinee movie.

His mom dropped him off at the theatre the boys and I dropped baby girl off. I noticed both boys glaring out the window at the little wimpy kid as daughter walked over to meet him and enter theatre.

Asked them why they were glaring. "We want to make sure he doesn't try anything with our little sister."

Me, "You're good brothers. Let's go get you some ice cream.

When she got up around fifteen she and her seventeen year old brothers would go to the same music shows along with a group of friends. Whenever some guy would start getting creepy she would go over to her big brother and hold his hand or slip her arm in his so the creep would think bro was her boyfriend.

Bro was 6'2" with a bad temper at age 17 so it always worked great. They still go a lot of places together and I never worry about her when she is with her brother. He would take on anything or anyone to protect his baby sister.

It never would have crossed my older brother or middle brothers minds to try and protect me. It was always my youngest brother. I remember one evening one of his Little League coaches and I were talking, and brother marched up, grabbed me by the arm and off we went a ways. Little brother informed me Coach did not have honorable intentions towards me. Then he walked back to his coach, made some brief comment, and that was that.

Morning Devotional

He said to me, ’Son of man, can these bones live?' (Ezekiel 37:3)

The Staggering Question

Can a sinner be turned into a saint? Can a twisted life be made right? There is only one appropriate answer— "O Lord God, You know" ( Ezekiel 37:3 (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ezekiel+37:3) ). Never forge ahead with your religious common sense and say, "Oh, yes, with just a little more Bible reading, devotional time, and prayer, I see how it can be done."

It is much easier to do something than to trust in God; we see the activity and mistake panic for inspiration. That is why we see so few fellow workers with God, yet so many people working for God. We would much rather work for God than believe in Him. Do I really believe that God will do in me what I cannot do?

The degree of hopelessness I have for others comes from never realizing that God has done anything for me. Is my own personal experience such a wonderful realization of God’s power and might that I can never have a sense of hopelessness for anyone else I see? Has any spiritual work been accomplished in me at all? The degree of panic activity in my life is equal to the degree of my lack of personal spiritual experience.

"Behold, O My people, I will open your graves . . ." (Ezekiel 37:12 (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ezekiel+37:12)). When God wants to show you what human nature is like separated from Himself, He shows it to you in yourself. If the Spirit of God has ever given you a vision of what you are apart from the grace of God (and He will only do this when His Spirit is at work in you), then you know that in reality there is no criminal half as bad as you yourself could be without His grace. My "grave" has been opened by God and "I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells" (Romans 7:18 (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Romans+7:18)). God’s Spirit continually reveals to His children what human nature is like apart from His grace.

I never had to resort to brandishing firearms. I just had to be my own 6'3" 230lbs self.

"Daddy, Brad says he is afraid of you."

"That's nice honey. Fear is what I was aiming for."
That was all Dad had to do with my oldest sister's now ex-husband...He was 6'1" and at that time around 250 so when Denise brought Mike to meet us it was very calm...Dad asked what Mike's intentions were, he sat there and listened and then calmly leaned over and said, "Remember one thing, that's my little girl, you hurt her I'll kill you."

He sat back, and started reading his book again, like it never even happened. :))

I have 3 younger brothers. When someone came to visit me a few months ago, my brother the cop was planning on coming over here with his gun and he was going to check this guy out. (Little did he know........ )I think my bro forgets that I'm the big sister. :))

Cool. I've got eight or ten. I forget right now. My 19 year old baby girl loves her some little tomatoes so I have cherry, some hyrbrid just above cherry and some small slicing sized ones for burger buns.

Sometimes the "volunteers" come up as early as February here, but it didn't happen this year. All my tomato plants are still very small.

I'm concentrating more on protecting the Thai dragons this year. It's time I started outsmarting the raccoons. While they may not eat peppers at much as tomatoes, they do not hesitate to dig them up.

I'm not too motivated this year. I have the maters, some squash, cucumbers, watermelons, and corn. Of course, behind the fence I have a field of blackberries and strawberries growing wild..so that's easy..and of course a ton of rabbits there to eat the berries..so I have my veggies, fruit, and meat. I'm good.

Want to limit the 'coons? Get a yard dog.

I take care of dogs, sometimes. It's been problematic in two ways. First, when dogs are around, we have parakeets to protect. Second, it seems invariably, that while the dog takes care of the cats and coons, the skunks get the dog.

I like dogs. Some day, perhaps.

Haven't seen any 'coons around our yard but our dog is sudden death for possums and rats. We have a vacant field next door and I suppose that is where they come in from.

When I was in hospital last summer my wife got home about midnight after visiting me and walked in to a living room carpet full of blood and a dead possum on the floor.

Apparently the possum came in through the dog door. Not an especially bright idea in my opinion.

******

New Orleans Saint RB George Rogers when asked about the upcoming season: "I want to rush for 1,000 or 1,500 yards, whichever comes first."

******

Oiler coach Bum Phillips: When asked by Bob Costas why he takes his wife on all the road trips, Phillips responded, "Because she is too damn ugly to kiss goodbye."

******

Stu Grimson, Chicago Blackhawks left wing, explaining why he keeps a color photo of himself above his locker: "That's so when I forget how to spell my name, I can still find my clothes."

Cleaning my shotgun with my other firearms lying there on the kitchen table...bottle of whiskey...wearing my Rebel Flag t-shirt with Waylon Jennings blaring in the background. Even got my speech planned out...

believe you should live each day as if it is your last, which is why I don't have any clean laundry because, come on, who wants to wash clothes on the last day of their life? --Age 15

Home is where the house is. --Age 6

For centuries, people thought the moon was made of green cheese. Then the astronauts found that the moon is really a big hard rock. That's what happens to cheese when you leave it out. --Age 6

My young brother asked me what happens after we die. I told him we get buried under a bunch of dirt and worms eat our bodies. I guess I should have told him the truth--that most of us go to hell and burn eternally --but I didn't want to upset him. --Age 10

you can try the carb restricted "carb addicts'' method. eat zero carbs all day except 1 meal. consume your carbs in less than an hour and your body doesn't realize you've eaten them. treats them like no carbs.

As I recall Scofield was a thief and a con man. But highly respected to this day amongst our Baptist brethren.

If not for his Study Bible Notes Hal Lindsay and the other Rapture guys out of Dallas Theological would have never had a career.

Unfortunately Dake pretty much ripped off all his Eschatology from Scofied. He is pretty good in areas like faith, healing and the gifts of the Spirit. All the Pentecostal stuff.

Your best bet is, don't read anything but the New Testament for about six months. No websites, no study bibles, no commentaries. It only takes three of four hours to read through the whole N.T.

Spend the next six months just reading the N.T. from Matt to Rev over and over again. No word studies or O.T. reference sidetracks. It will be like a brand new Bible to you before you finish.

All 27 you mean. We get so used to the whole "Read the whole Bible in a Year" mentality that almost no Christians spend the amount of time in the N.T. that they should.

Those are the books, especially from Acts to Rev that God gave directly to us.

It is marvelous what God can do for your understanding of Christianity if you read nothing but the N.T. for a few months.

Wouldn't surprise me...

At Christmas we went to D.C. and stayed with my aunt for a few days...On Christmas Eve my wife and aunt decide they need to go to the mall for a couple of last minute items...they told us they'd be back in a couple of hours...they were gone for 8!!! And came back with only two bags a piece.

But back on subject....You mentioned Gideon's....in your opinion is the KJV the best of the English translations? I'm limited on the amount of Greek and Hebrew I know, so my judgment on the better translations is lacking.

They can take away our liberty
To preach God's Holy Word
They can make it be against the law
If we witness door to door
Oh they can stop our voice
From preaching in the streets
Oh and even in the park
But they'll never take my Jesus
Out of my heart

Oh, they can take away our right to pray
And even throw us all in jail
But they can't take away the life he gave
They can't send my soul to hell
Oh they can take my Blessed Bible
Tear the pages all apart
But they'll never, never take my Jesus
Out of my heart

Oh they can take my life and bury me
In a grave so cold, cold and dark
But they'll never take my Jesus
Out of my heart
Never get him out of my heart.

You bein' a Southern boy I imagine you got no issues understanding Elizabethan English. I don't know if the KJV is the "best." I know I love it and large portions of the N.T. memorized just having read them for so many years.

One thing that is cool about the KJV is that all the standard Greek reference works are keyed to it. I usually preach from the NKJV to make it easier for the listeners and so I don't have to explain for instance that conversation meant "manner of life" when the KJV was published rather than two people talking to one another.

I study from KJV, I read the NASB or NIV just to change things up and get a different perspective.

When you have read the N.T. in the KJV as many times as I have there is a danger of getting N.T. hypnosis the way long haul truckers get highway hypnosis when they are driving the same stretch of desert road late at night over and over again.

I don't want that to happen so I will read different translations of the N.T. I especially like Weymouth and Young's Literal Translation for this.

I gotcha...I have several translations...KJV, NKJV, NIV, Amplified and The Message...I'm not too sure about that last one...

For typical reading I'll use the NIV, simply because it's easier for me to grasp..But in deep studying I'll use all of them.

I am your star thats shineing bright
I am the deepest of your desire
I am the candle that lights your fire
I am the bluest of oceans waves
I am the longing your heart craves
I am the rhythm of your day
I am the sunlights golden ray
I am the light beaming through the dark
I am the nightingale and the lark
I am the rain that soaks dry ground
I am the singing tinkleing sound
I am the day that comes at morn
I am the trinket that you adorn
I am the garden to your red rose
I am the dream you dream when you doze
I am the stars that come out at night
I am the vision thats nearly in sight
I am the wings on which you soar
I am yours forevermore
I am the mornings painted sunrise
I am the gift present surprise
I am the treasure beneath the sea
I am the measure of you and me
I am the rose of sunsets hue
I am the beginning of me and you
I am the beauty of natures gift
I am the one to you uplift
I am the beauty all around
I am the treasure you have found
I am the songbird who sings in the trees
I am the one you always please
I am the rose of sunsets glow
I am with you where ere you go

So, yesterday I was working with a student on chanting Shof'tim. Specifically at 20:14. In the Hebrew, one of the words is "sh'lala" and a few words later, in a slightly different form, "sh'lal". My student asks for the translation, and this is not a word that I'm used to seeing--"sh'lala" sounds like do-wop. And context isn't helping much, "You shall eat the ??? of your enemies..." So we look at the translation I have, which says, "You shall eat the booty of your enemies..."
