good mornin' y'all

what can we do
to prove its true
that Christ's the one
God's only Son
who came for us
so we all must
obey the Word
as we have heard
help those in need
plant a seed
of love in hearts
avoid the darts
of evil thoughts
for we've been bought
with precious blood
we are the bud
prepared to bloom
and make us room
for Christ to come
where He came from
and lift us up
with God to sup

Says who?

Pollyanna
May 27th, 2009, 10:18 am
And perhaps that is the answer to my daughters' question: If I made them grow up, why didn't I make my husband? Perhaps that was not my job. Perhaps my job was to give him the space and the freedom to do pretty much as he pleased, and to be who he is.

Back when we were talking marriage, we didn't have the foresight to say, "She shoulders responsibility like it is a mere feather, and makes decisions like they've already been made. He's content to flow with the current." It's been a perfect fit.

After twenty-one years of marriage, it seems a little ludicrous, not to mention unfair, for me to say, "Okay, I've decided I want to learn submission, here are the reins, you're taking over" when that is the last thing he wants. Before we were married, when we were working together, he had a front row seat watching six people trying to get me to submit to his boss. He'd be the first to tell me submission is beyond my ken.

For me, submission has been the path not taken, and yes, now I'm a little curious about it. But it doesn't seem fair to turn my husband's life topsy-turvy, or to infringe on the freedom that I've insured he has in our marriage, for my little experiment.

My husband has freedom in this marriage. Are you sure, Koushi, you do not have freedom in yours?

Koushi reminds me a lot of my husband based just on what I have seen here. I bet he does have a lot of freedoms, but he does not see like that. I know mine doesn't no matter what I do.

I know I take the kids to all their practices, their games, school events, friend houses and even shuffle around my schedules so I do not have to stress him with coming home from work early or changing his other activities around. He often works late at the garage and tinkers on other cars and things around the house without complaint from us. We often do what he wants to do without complaining about the activity, but he rarely does the same for us or complains ruining the experience.

Maybe I am the one who doesn't have any freedom within marriage.

There is never a time when there is no choice. There are many times when the desired outcome is not available to choose.

Me apparently being condescending aside, yesterday gave me a lot to think about. What was going on in my mind is that I could trace step-by-step, from the time we were babies up until today, the building process that helped create the people my husband and I are today. He and I are not too much alike--yet we mesh so well.

I judge this started with something as simple as our birth order. While not ruling out personality, I would say birth order is sometimes a strong factor in how we develop. When RayMan asked how the submission thing was going for me, and you thought I was using feminine logic, I was being serious. The outcome I cannot choose is with my husband is submission--and half of that has to do with who he is, and what he loves about me.

Last Fall when we were talking about the submission thing, he said even if I'm not submissive, I also miss being overbearing by an equal amount of distance. He said he liked not having to worry about me--that not only am I low maintenance, I'm pretty much no maintenance. (He said that as if it were a compliment, so that's how I took it.)

True, not every outcome is available to us. But we can sure build something good out of the ones that are.

Who did the kids contract with to do the extra curricular activities? Who gave them permission? You can also ask, who encouraged them to try these activities? If I was the one giving permission (and I generally was), then I saw it as my responsibility to see to the arrangements. Gymnastics, dance, concerts--I was almost always the only parent in attendance. Softball, track, soccer my husband was often involved, too--but then he encouraged sports.

If the children's activities was a joint decision, where everyone sat down and worked out commitments, that's one thing. However, it would not be fair to say, "I signed Johnny up for baseball, and you're taking him."

Even if you did happen to be the one that okayed all the kids' activities, couldn't you still go to your husband, explain that you are now feeling overwhelmed, and could he lend a hand? (Request, not demand, if it was you who granted all the permissions.)

Generally there are one or two but you are probably cutting out at least 100 carbs a day from what you had been eating. Not worth sweating about.

Had one of those lovely Delmonico's for breakfast. Thinking about having a couple of fatty beef patties cooked on the grill for dinner. The great thing for me with doing Zero Carb is that I don't get any food cravings between feedings.

Morning Devotional

Grow in grace. (2 Peter 3:18)

When you don't get what you want (3)

Winning gracefully can be harder than losing gracefully. When we win we're tempted by arrogance, power, insensitivity, gloating, and wanting to relive our success long after everyone else is bored by it. Gracious winners always remember what it feels like to lose. They are caught up in something bigger than their own wins and losses.

Abraham Lincoln had the wisdom to place the good of the country above his own ego, appointing his worst political critic, Edwin Stanton, to run the War Department. Stanton, a brilliant legal mind, could be brusque and condescending. As Frederick Douglass put it, "Politeness was not one of his weaknesses." Lincoln, on the other hand, was keenly aware of his looks and his uneducated background. (When someone charged him with being two-faced during a campaign, he responded: "If I had two faces, do you think I'd be wearing this one?"). As outgoing attorney general of the losing party, Stanton had belittled Lincoln as "the original gorilla." How Lincoln treated Stanton is Civil War history. Lincoln trusted in him, confided in him, leaned on him, depended on him. And Stanton responded with unfailing loyalty and affection.

On the morning of April 14, 1865, Abraham Lincoln died after having been shot the night before at Ford's Theatre. The most famous words ever spoken after the death of a president were spoken that morning: "Now he belongs to the ages." The speaker was Edwin Stanton. Robert Lincoln, Abraham Lincoln's son, said that after his father died he was visited in his room each morning for two weeks by Stanton who "Spent the first ten minutes of his visits weeping without saying a word." When nothing else works, showing grace does.

Yes. Two different people who find it easy to be married to one another even though neither of us is perfect, or anywhere close to it. However, if I don't carve out a time to go see the new Star Trek movie soon, there may be trouble. (It's actually the kids' schedules that have been holding us up.)

My seventh grade teacher was Mrs. Boozer. Her daughter was Mia Boozer.

A number of years ago in my home town of Richmond CA. a guy named Corky Booze ran for city council.

According to him his name was pronounced "boo-zay." Loved seeing his campaign posters all over town during the campaign.

Just googled him and it looks like he ran again last year.

Generally there are one or two but you are probably cutting out at least 100 carbs a day from what you had been eating. Not worth sweating about.

Had one of those lovely Delmonico's for breakfast. Thinking about having a couple of fatty beef patties cooked on the grill for dinner. The great thing for me with doing Zero Carb is that I don't get any food cravings between feedings.

the nice thing is.......if you need to crunch something you can have a salad that is carbless if you look around properly. and there is nothing better than bleu cheese dressing or ranch, also carbless.

I feel so much better. I hadn't had the energy to do anything but sit around on the weekend and after works for months now.

Saturday I went out to Wal-Mart at 7am to get gardening supplies and then down to Auto Parts store to pick up alternator for son's car.

Came home, spent about eight hours researching and then writing mid-term paper for History of Western Civilization class.

Sunday got together with son to swap his non-functioning alternator for the new one.

Sunday was outside at dawn working in garden, got all the flower beds cleared out from winter weed growth, planted a zillion celosia, coleus, pansys and begonias.

Fixed up hanging "topsy turvy" planters on eaves of house in backyard and planted tomato plants in them.

Worked from dawn til dusk in garden with just a couple breaks to get online here and see what everyone was doing.

Haven't had energy like that since I first got sick over two years ago.

Exactly. Just stick em in zip lock and roll them with a rolling pin for a bit.

Another thing that's great - non pork rind related is no crust cheesecake.

Here's an example.

Ingredients

2 (8 ounce) packages Philadelphia Cream cheese (http://www.recipezaar.com/library/getentry.zsp?id=506)
1/2 cup splenda sugar substitute (http://www.recipezaar.com/library/getentry.zsp?id=516)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (http://www.recipezaar.com/library/getentry.zsp?id=350)
2 eggs (http://www.recipezaar.com/library/getentry.zsp?id=142)

Directions

Mix together softened cream cheese, 1/2 cup splenda, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, beat well.
Then add 2 eggs and beat again.
Cook in a pyrex dish about 6 x 6 glass dish at 350 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes, until center is firm.

NOTE: Do NOT use the low-fat cream cheese. Use the real stuff. Carbs are the problem, not fat.

You need to go down to Winn-Dixie and get those Cheesecake fixin's so you can have it for desert tonight.

That and one other recipe has been big with everybody at my house.

The other?

Jalapeno Poppers.

Get a stick or two of full fat cream cheese, and a bunch of jalapenos.

Slice the jalapenos in half length wise and clean out the seeds.

Use a knife to slap a generous portion of cream cheese into each half of the jalapenos, and stick them on a cookie sheet. I use a little rack on top of the cookie sheet so they don't stick to said sheet.

Pop them into the oven pre-heated to about 375-400 degrees.

Leave them there for about twenty minutes if you want them spicy or about 35 minutes if the ladies like their poppers a little milder.

That's some good low-carb eatin' right there.

The bacon is a nice touch.

Mix some pesto in the cream cheese, sandwich a nice slice of quail breast in between the jalepeno peppers and then wrap with bacon. That...is a masterpiece.

Exactly. Just stick em in zip lock and roll them with a rolling pin for a bit.

Another thing that's great - non pork rind related is no crust cheesecake.

Here's an example.

Ingredients

2 (8 ounce) packages Philadelphia Cream cheese (http://www.recipezaar.com/library/getentry.zsp?id=506)
1/2 cup splenda sugar substitute (http://www.recipezaar.com/library/getentry.zsp?id=516)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (http://www.recipezaar.com/library/getentry.zsp?id=350)
2 eggs (http://www.recipezaar.com/library/getentry.zsp?id=142)

Directions

Mix together softened cream cheese, 1/2 cup splenda, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, beat well.
Then add 2 eggs and beat again.
Cook in a pyrex dish about 6 x 6 glass dish at 350 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes, until center is firm.

NOTE: Do NOT use the low-fat cream cheese. Use the real stuff. Carbs are the problem, not fat.

you can do a no bake version too, with a cup of hot water, a package of knox unflavored gelatin, 2 softened 8 oz pkgs of cream cheese a little flavor (vanilla or whatever) and splenda (or equal) to taste.

I put papers into cupcake cups and fill 1/3 full and chill. one or 2 for dessert with a cup of black flavored coffee and dessert is all good!

I had a chance to go back to days at the beginning of the year after a certain assignment was over. I chose to stay with nights so that I could go to school during the day. It's a split shift however, 2 on, 2 off, 3 on, 2 off, 2 on, 3 off.

That would be good for going to school and you also probably get to spend more time with the kids than if you were getting home an hour before they go to bed each night.

I am thankful that I can take accredited classes online. No way I could make it to night classes.

Morning Devotional

You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You. (Isaiah 26:3)

Don't Lose Your Peace

One of the greatest promises in the Bible is, "You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You." Who are you trusting to solve the problem, God or yourself? You need to live by the principle "Do your best, then let God do the rest." Too many of us have the idea that it's wrong to enjoy ourselves while we have problems. We grow up believing that if we can't do anything else, the least we can do is worry, act stressed out and be miserable.

The Bible addresses this: "Do not [for a moment] be frightened...for such [constancy and fearlessness] will be a clear sign...from God" (Php 1:28). This Scripture teaches us that when adversity comes (and it will) we must stay in peace. Satan doesn't know what to do with us when he can't get us upset; we've taken a powerful weapon out of his hands. "For such [constancy and fearlessness] will be a...sign...from God." Keeping your peace doesn't exempt you from life's difficulties, it just allows God to have the last word. By trusting Him completely you are no longer at the mercy of circumstances, other people, or your own emotions and limitations.

Somebody quipped, "In times like these it's helpful to remember that there have always been times like these." The question is not will trouble come, but how will you handle it? The writer to the Hebrews says, "We which have believed do enter into rest" (Heb 4:3). When things go wrong - do what God leads you to do, then rest in Him and watch Him work on your behalf!
