I want my 1953 International Harvester back. That thing was SO easy to work on.
I'm probably going to buy the alternator for him. He's had to have the car towed home twice this week so I know he's hurtin' for bucks.
Image of Travelall. Fixed up a bed in it. My dog and I lived in it for a few months back in '77.

How about a 98 Suburban. I've got a bird dog and we travel to Canada, Michigan, the Dakotas and the NC Carolina coast to duck hunt, grouse, pheasant. We drive until tired, pull over and go to sleep in the back...it is the perfect vehicle.:D

I learned how to drive in my Dad's brand new 1968 Suburban. Great for hauling 14 people to Grateful Dead shows in in 1972. Helped him rebuild engine after about 150k miles. When he upgraded to a new Suburban in the late '80s I got the '68 for a couple years, then returned it to him and he sold it to a cousin of mine after having the engine rebuilt again.
My cousin drove it, hauling stuff for his flea market business until early 2008 when he found it impossible to find parts anymore in our area. My cousin died in late 2008 and my aunt sold it to a friend of his who had a source for parts.
That Suburban is still running after 40 years and probably four hundred thousand miles.

Well Ray I thought I would give you a little help with the Alternator so I looked up the directions.
Problem is the Directions stink!
Here's the directions as published by All data.
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove radiator mounting bolt.
3. Disconnect reservoir hose and fan motor connectors.
4. Raise vehicle
5. Remove left-hand splash shield.
6. Disconnect oil pressure switch connector.
7. Loosen alternator bolts and remove alternator belt.
8. Disconnect battery positive terminal.
9. Lift radiator and remove alternator bolts and alternator.
10. Reverse procedure to install.
Probably not much help. :frown:

Interesting. A pastor friend of mine has been an All Data salesman for almost ten years now so I am familiar with them. Stopped subscribing several years ago thought because I didn't did their instructions that much.
When my son got this car I bout a Chilton Hyundai Repair Manual online for '94-98 Hyundai's. The instructions in the book for replacing the alternator don't reference the radiator or oil pressure switch at all, but I am going to cut and paste the All Data instructions you posted into a notepad file in case I find that I am unable to get at the mounting bolts for the alternator. That is the only reason I can think of why you might want to mess with the radiator.
Thanks!

I disagree. Tomorrow I am going to be among students, young human beings who I may not know very well, but who deserve my love because they are children, and children of God at that. You cannot say those children deserve my love, but do not deserve the love of God.
You may be projecting because I could have never thought up "praying for death" or living death...
I did not mean or intend to project onto you. I was telling of my own prayers. If I felt I deserved death, then death is where my heart would be centered. Instead, I feel I am called into love and redemption--so that is where I set my heart.
Remember, I am not speaking of warm fuzzies when I speak of love--but of justice and of very hard work. Growing in love takes a lot of time and a lot of energy.

But we aren't worthy...our righteousness is as filthy rags....But, God loves us because we're His creation, therefore he has compassion for us.
I won't go into all the details of what I did, but, 2 weeks before my 19th birthday my dad gave me an ultimatum as I walked in the door of our house...there was a suitcase sitting in the foyer and he called me into the living room and said, "You've got 20 minutes to pack that bag and get out of my house or I'm calling the cops." I was out the door in 15 minutes.
A little over a month later is when I found Christ, or He found me. I hadn't spoken to either of my parents since Dad kicked me out. I slept wherever I could, at friends houses, in my truck...wherever. After about another month I worked up the courage to call my mom...She told me that that night after I left my dad fell in the floor crying wondering where he had failed as a father to me, why his son, whom he loved so dearly had turned out the way he was, doing the the things he had done.
We talked for a while, and then mom said she would see if dad would let me come home...It took 4 more months before he would agree to it...Our relationship was pretty rocky for a while after that...until Dad saw that the change in me was genuine...we moved past what I had done, and looked ahead at our future...We were no longer just father and son, we were the closest of friends as well.
I didn't deserve that, I wasn't worthy of the forgiveness, the love or the friendship that my dad and I had his last few years on this earth...I deserved to be out in the cold, if he had disowned me, I wouldn't have held it against him...:Yet he didn't do that to me, not because I was deserving of better, but because he was my father and he loved me.
It's the same way with God.

I do hear what both you and Vir are saying. I see this slightly differently. Your dad kicked you out of the house for something you did--he served you with justice. I am imagining that before he took such a step, he tried every other way to reach you, and it hadn't worked.
Turn this around so that it is about your father. During the last years of his life, did he deserve to be estranged from his son, or did he deserve the closest of friends relationship? You, yourself, were not meant to be estranged from your father. You are more deserving than that. You could have made the decision to remain estranged, and would have received what you deserved from making that decision. You did not deserve forgiveness? I think you proved that you did, that you were worthy of both forgiveness and redemption.

Meri, I don't mean to butt in but I have to agree with Vir and CID on this one. I kind of look at it this way...you remember the movie, "It's a Wonderful Life"? We deserve death but the Lord gave us another chance when we accepted his Son as payment for what we deserve. Now, I am so pumped up...I want to make the best of this second chance and I have "your attitude" of how I now approach life. I am greatful for not rec'vg what I truly deserved and show it with a Christian way of living my life, from here on out...til death.

1. to merit, be qualified for, or have a claim to (reward, assistance, punishment, etc.) because of actions, qualities, or situation.
2. to be worthy of, qualified for, or have a claim to reward, punishment, recompense.
None of which fit how you use it.
Here's a dictionary: www.onelook.com Get a new word.
I am not worthy of God's love for I have not done what He has asked - "Be holy, for I Am holy."
I am not qualified to receive the love of God for I "have sinned and fall short of the glory of God".
I have no claim to reward - love is not something you win, it is a gift of God - not merited by man.
"But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: "Let him who boasts boast in the Lord." 1 Cor. 1

Can I ask all of you to pray for me.
Sunday I had a pretty severe heart attack and they went in with a heart catheter to look then went back in to put 1 stint in and now it seems I have to go back in about 4 weeks to have another 1 and maybe 2 and possibly could even have open heart surgery if the surgeon feels like I need it.
I don't think I have ever felt so vulnerable in my life.
Always felt I could lick the whole world but now feel pretty scared about all of this.
I believe in the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man and know that strong believers fill these forums and ask for your prayers.
Thank you and God Bless.

Observe and enjoy, you will be a better warrior on the other side of this, the change in your body cannot match the change your spirit will enjoy. Prepare to be liberated from the trappings of this world.

None of which fit how you use it.
Here's a dictionary: www.onelook.com (http://www.onelook.com) Get a new word.
God Himself has judged me worthy of His love, worthy of redemption. It is up to me to step up to the plate , to ask and to receive--and to work really hard at my redemption. Every morning I face God with, "I'm not very good at this. I would like to be better." That's all God needs to know. From there He arranges all sorts of things to help me shape up--to become better at what I am not good at--to be redeemed.

Morning Devotional
Who are you to judge someone else's servant? (Romans 14:4)
Stick to What You Know!
Our brain doesn't like blank spaces, so when it encounters questions without answers it searches for something to put in the blank spaces. And because we're driven by our own perceptions, needs and prejudices, we're not always objective. We're blind to our blind spots and think we "know," and the results can be disastrous for our relationships. "I know what your real intentions are. You think I don't know what's going on in that head of yours? I can tell by the look on your face exactly what you're thinking."
Such words indicate we've got the other person "pegged," and feel no need to consider the situation further because we couldn't possibly be wrong. Case closed. What about such Scriptures as, "He who answers a matter before he hears the facts - it is a folly and shame to him" (Pr 18:13). Or, "Be quick to hear, slow to speak" (Jas 1:19). Or, "Even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace; when he shuts his lips, he is considered perceptive" (Pr 17:28).
Before you "sound off," consider three things:
(1) "No one can know a person's thoughts except that person's own spirit" (1Co 2:11). You may suspect, guess, even feel strongly, but you don't know their thoughts or intentions.
(2) "Who art thou that judgest another man's servant?" (Ro 14:4). Much of our "knowing," is merely our own judgmental spin on things.
(3) If you think you know and need to deal with the issue, try saying, "I have some impressions (concerns, observations, etc.) I'd like to talk about." Then discuss your observations, feelings and impressions as your perceptions, not "gospel truth," leaving judgment to God.

again, you're mixing apples and oranges. having your arm fixed has nothing to do with deserving.
We don't deserve redemption, it's given to us because of God's grace, not by anything we do to merit it. You cannot work at doing something to make you redeemed. God doesn't need to know anything but that you are sorry for your sins. He may arrange things to 'help you shape up', but it's not for your redemption, it's for your betterment. If you shape up or not, if you are sorry every day for your sins and believe that Christ died for them for you, you are redeemed.
It is similar to getting flowers from someone you love for no reason. The person gives you flowers out of love. You did nothing to earn them, or deserve them, you did nothing to merit them, yet they were given to you anyway, out of love.
You in no way merit redemption. You are a sinner. Nothing you DO makes that not so. It's your repentence of your sins and your faith that redeem.

Yes, he did hurt me much, much more than my rapist ever did (and he knows some of that pain because he dealt with some of the after affects.) But that doesn't mean I should have reacted the way I did. I should have handled it by acting and not reacting. When I am in physical pain, I act to relieve it. But that doesn't mean I should have reacted the way I did. I should have handled it by acting and not reacting. When I am in physical pain, I act to relieve it. I don't react by, say, shooting myself, to relieve the pain.
 One step at a time, and remember, it's best to start with baby steps.
