Corona, blahh!! It's like Budweiser, if I wanted to drink fizzy horse wiz I'd just find a carbonated horse.

I don't do it all the time when I drink Dos Equis, but typically when we go to the Mexican restaurant I'll order one and they'll have a lime on the mug, I'll just drop it in there.

There's another beer I like, Blue Moon, it's normally served with an orange slice.

I think I found the horse you mean. His name is Carbon Copy.

Let's set this scene. Hubby has just started with the sore throat and stuffy nose; I have felt bad enough to miss 4 days of work and gone to the doctor, and told everyone that I am weak and shakey and woozy.

Of course, I am doing the cooking. The big giveaway was the word "Hubby".....

Seems the FAS diagnosis scares some treatment centers. Now, add a firm Reactive Attachment Disorder (a combination that some experts say is the worst imaginable combination), and we may be hard pressed to place our Ruskie in a decent facility.

Frustrating.

All right then. When the cough goes away and you do start feeling better, be sure not to over do. I did not have the cough part, and in my case there was nothing I could do to get out of the "over do" part, but it set me back a couple of weeks. Be as easy on yourself as possible. This thing has a tough grip.

Well, you get no argument from me. I was knocked for a loop when I got so much worse over the weekend.

I'm sure I'll be back at work tomorrow, but testing the waters. If I feel like it is too much, I'll just leave.

Morning Devotional

Know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (John 8:32)

Debunking Marriage Myths (2)
Marriage myth 2: The myth of the "right person," suggests happiness in marriage depends entirely on finding the right person. It's said to be a matter of luck, Cupid, the alignment of the stars, the moon hitting your eye like a big pizza pie, etc., occasionally even God. Just find the right person and they'll make your life supremely happy, romantic, excited, fulfilled, blissful. They will become, as the song says, "that old black magic" that holds you in its spell, leading you into the enchanted land of endless love. It's all up to them. And nothing ever felt more convincingly real or right! Despite the advice of friends and family, we'll "give away the farm" and turn ourselves inside out to keep this addictive, magic happening. When it stops (and it does), three things happen:

(1) We cry, manipulate, bribe, and later blame, vilify and consider them phonies for changing on us and making us miserable. "He's not the man I married," we complain. He may not be the person you expected him to be (that person doesn't exist outside your myth) but he is the one you married and the problem isn't all his.

(2) We label him "the wrong person" and either search for the right one or give up on the opposite sex as being false, faithless and fickle.

(3) We learn the truth: there is no right person to make us happy always. At that point we're set free to find happiness by becoming the right person, the one God created us to be, giving generously, allowing others to be real, limited, changeable humans, and looking to God for our joy!

I have a question for the nurses about my wrist burn. It blistered; skin is starting to pull away a bit and it's seeping, perhaps a tiny bit infected. My idea of first aid is keep it clean and leave it alone. Is leaving it open to the air, fine, or should I cover it to give it a bit more protection from having more skin rubbing off?

Is it a big burn? What's going on that you think it's infected?

Since you think it's infected, I'd see the doctor asap. In the meantime:
Wash it gently with soap and water and put antibiotic ointment on it. Cover it with a non-stick dressing and either wrap gauze around it, or hold the dressing in place with tape. You can leave the dressing off during the day if you wish, but you are very busy during the day, with teaching, and the house, and the yard........I'd suggest keeping the dressing on during the day, too. That way, if it's not infected, it won't get infected. Change the dressing every day. (And, of course, wash your hands before changing the dressing) :)

It's a very small burn--about one inch square. Only one of the five blisters rubbed away today, and by the time I noticed it again it was sore, seeping, and redness was spreading from it under adjacent healthy skin. I did wash it then, and I think it's looking a little bit better tonight--it's not nearly as puffy--and the pain is a little less, too.

Antibiotic ointment? I'll look for some tomorrow.

Thanks, Hadassah.

i'd have to see it. e-mail me a pic of it (no need to gross peeps out here). you can try cleaning it, putting some anti-biotic ointment on it and leaving it open, or use some ointment and a sterile dressing. i don't know how big it is......that matters too.

What? *LOL*

It was a 3-month long process from spider bite until the final skin graft.

If I'd had any aptitude for science at all, I should've become a nurse. I just found it all fascinating. It never really grossed me out.

Being on bed rest, I now watch waaaay too much TV. But the good news is I've found a really fun show on Animal Planet that I like. It's called It's Me or the Dog. I can't wait to go home and work with Scout. He's already a good dog, but there are a few things he does that I don't like. I'm looking forward to training him with what I've learned watching the show.

Morning Devotional

Know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (John 8:32)

Debunking marriage myths (3)

Marriage myth 3: The myth of "the full box," suggests that when we marry we inherit a big box filled with self-replacing good things, guaranteeing effortless unending marital bliss. This box is supposed to contain romance, physical fulfillment, generosity, true love, and being served "in the style to which we've become accustomed."

Ideally, we can dip in and take what we want from a never-depleted supply. Instant, low-maintenance satisfaction guaranteed! And it seems to work initially, so we believe the myth. Till one rainy day we dip into the box and come up empty. At that point we feel shock, disappointment, anger, despair and hopelessness and conclude that our partner failed, fooled or forsook us. Why else would the box be empty? At that point the myth suggests, "It's time to find another box!" Or you could listen to the liberating truth:

(a) Marriage is a big box, an empty one. Your job is to make enough deposits to guarantee sufficient withdrawals for a rich relationship. Jesus said: "The amount you give will determine the amount you get back" (Lk 6:38).

(b) You must start by asking, "What would I like to have in the box? Then you deposit that into the box. Then you ask, "How much of it do I want in the box? Then you deposit enough to generate that amount. You see, the box is only a container; it didn't fail and you didn't get a bad box. You are the owner of the box, not its victim.

Accepting this truth frees you to make your marriage rich and rewarding by becoming a giver, not just a taker.

I have already abandoned any plans for sleeping. I figure the past three months have given me all the sleep I'll need for the next two years or so.

With my second I got really good at sleeping when I was awake. I only had to do that for six months, so hopefully you won't have to go as long as two years.

A little Flexeril for the pain in my back, a little Ambien at night - it does wonders. Unfortunately it seems that just as soon as I've sunk into a good sleep I get a phone call, or the doctor comes in to check on me, or the nurse comes in to give me meds or to monitor me.

Technically I'm not still in the hospital, I'm back in the hospital. I went home for three weeks, but I've been back for three and a half weeks. Don't be jealous.

Don't let me scare you. My second was a special case. Until she was old enough to move around on her own and tire herself out, she could go twenty-seven hours without sleep, sleep two, and then be good for the next twenty-four. Most babies are not like that at all. You will be fine and be in a routine in no time.

Well, my voice teacher/musical director for the play, canceled a voice lesson with my friend because they were finalizing the cast this morning, so we should hear soon. So I'm jumping every time the phone rings and every email notification I get. She just texted me and I nearly fell out of my chair. (She was asking if I got any emails since she's at work and doesn't have access.) FREAKING OUT is an understatement.

Well, my friends and I are all in contact with each other, and no one has heard anything. The call-backs didn't happen until about an hour from now. But the call that we got into Secret Garden (same theater a year ago) came at noon, with no call back. It was a smaller play with a different director, though.

Joke for Mimi:

A fire started on some grassland near a farm, the county fire department was called to put out the fire, the fire was more than the county FD could handle some one suggested a nearby volunteer bunch be called in, despite some doubt the volunteer guys could do it the call was placed

The volunteers arrived in a dilapidated old fire truck they rumble straight towards the fire drove right into the middle of the flames and stopped! The firemen jumped out and frantically sprayed water in all directions soon they had snuffed out the center of the fire breaking it into two easily controlled parts.

Watching all of this the farmer was so impressed with the volunteer bunch and so grateful they saved his land he hands them a check on the spot for 1,000 dollars. A local reporter asked the fire chief what he was gonna do with the money to which the chief replied "That ought to be obvious the first thing were gonna do is fix the brakes on our fire truck."

But it is such a dreadfully sad song.

A dragon lives forever but not so little boys
Painted wings and giant rings make way for other toys.
One grey night it happened, jackie paper came no more
And puff that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar.

His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain,
Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane.
Without his life-long friend, puff could not be brave,
So puff that mighty dragon sadly slipped into his cave. oh!
