Pardon my ignorance ms. meri, but 'and' IS a conjunction. What else would it be in a list of things?
It's not your ignorance, which you are not. I didn't explain very well. The assignment was to identify the conjunction linking compound sentences. They were to find the 'and' that linked compound sentences, not the 'and' that linked a list of words. Typical kids, circling the first and they come to--even after I warn them there is a something in the sentence waiting to trip them up.
At the moment half my attention is here, and the other half is on my printer which is supposed to be printing out another certificate, but has gotten confused somewhere along the line. I believe a boot may be in order.

He has heard of The Brothers Karamazov because I was teasing him one day. I pulled it off my bookshelf and mentioned to him that he was going to read it. He was "saved" by someone (who shall remain nameless  ) who told me that I'd better not inflict that book on one as young as my son. Yeah, like I was really going to make my son read that. :))

They don't know what to make of shoes that old.
If they are in decent shape at all, call a costume store.
My FIL was a shoe designer for Brown Shoe Company, when I was first married, and I happened to wear a "model" size shoe (6M). They would create "trial run" shoes in 3 model sizes (4M, 6M, and 8M) so it could be decided if they wanted to put them into production. My FIL would give me all of the 6M's. I had a collection of shoes and boots (FIL headed up the women's boot division for a while) that would have made Imelda Marcos jealous (you may have to have been born before 1974 to get that reference).
I was so styling in the early 70's. *L*
I had so many, few were worn enough times to actually show wear. I kept them for years (decades, really), just because so many were so unusual (see if you can find "pantyboots" on the internet) I couldn't bring myself to throw them out. But I finally realized I couldn't store them forever just so they could be looked at occasionally. I wound up selling most of them to a costume store.

I googled "Panty-boots"....I was hoping to find some sort of photograph of a pair of them....but I did find this:
Besides my cocktail party interlude, my first professional introduction to Beth Levine’s creations was in a small collection at my undergraduate university. While cataloguing the collection of theatrical costume, I came across a pair of “Panty-boots” – opaque spandex panty hose built around a stack heel sole. I was entranced by the thought of someone wearing this ingenious marriage between shoe and leg covering – what role were these designed for, Wonder Woman? Super Girl? When I discovered the Herbert Levine label inside, I realized that these were never meant to shod a comic book superhero – these were the boots for a real Super Woman, the product of the Women’s Liberation Movement, the Sexual Revolution, and the Equal Rights Amendment all rolled into one.
http://www.shoeiq.com/blog/go-go-gone-a-tribute-to-beth-levine-1914-2006
Good description of panty-boots, AND those of us that wore them...! *L* I wore mine with vinyl hot-pants.

They're teaching the kids how to cough, and making them wash their hands even more. (Okay, my daughter's hands are already so dry they bleed from the amount of handwashing they do. I'm not exaggerating. The doctor has given her perscription strength handlotion, but it's considered a medicine so it's in the nurse's office where it does no good.) Also, if your kid has a fever, runny nose, cough, etc... don't send them to school. (Because usually, parents go out of their way to expose other kids to disease.) If they have any flu symptoms, they'll be immediately sent home.

Actually, Mimi, you would be surprised at how many parents do send their children to school knowing their child is sick. And, of course, the child feels so miserable they seek a little comfort somewhere. Absolutely I've had students cough, sneeze, and throw up all over me (only twice for the latter). There is no getting around it. If the flu comes to our area, I'll probably be one of the first exposed--that's just reality. Exposure doesn't mean I'll get the 'flu; nor does it mean if I do, it will be any worse than the 'flu I was suffering from about a month ago. There's been a lot of hype on this one.

I got a letter home today from my daughter's school saying that even though there's swine flu in Maricopa county, they're still having school as usual.
If they tell her to cough in a tissue, fire them!

Morning Devotional
Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. (Isaiah 43:18)
Let it Go (1)
What do you do when your memory drags the "there and then" into the "here and now," immersing you in the same old pain? The Bible answers, "Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?" Your past can infect your present and influence your future unless you decide to let it go. For the next few days, let's think about it.
First, let go of what God has forgiven! God's only response to confessed sin is to forgive and forget it. If it comes up again, you, not He, brought it up. "If we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us...and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1Jn 1:9).
Two things make letting go difficult.
(1) Your feelings. "I just don't feel forgiven!" you say. You're forgiven by God's grace obtained through Christ's sacrifice - regardless of emotions. Don't wait to feel it before you accept it; accept it and you'll start to feel it!
(2) A wrong concept of God. You say, "My dad says he forgives me, but each time I fail all my old offenses are thrown in my face again." Your heavenly Father doesn't operate that way. "I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more" (Isa 43:25). God doesn't bring them up - because He doesn't remember them. All your sins were judged and paid for at Calvary. Once confessed, you'll never again be charged with them, so rejoice and let them go. The Court of Heaven has ruled you "not guilty."

I think once upon a time he may have tried to keep up with me. However, there is only so much space per account--and I can run faster than he can.

A couple of shots of good bourbon will take care of that.
It'll take care of it quicker if you pour the shots in the nasal cavities, but I don't recommend it.

I was pretty sure the swine flu wasn't going to be as serious as they feared. It certainly wasn't going to be any more serious than the regular flu, IMO. They've shut down three schools in the valley, last I checked. People here are crying for all the schools to be shut down early for summer. (Schools here are done before June, but still.)
I always laugh when I get the strep letter from school. At my son's school they send it whenever anyone in any grade gets strep. Which means that we get a letter a day. But my daughter's ONLY symptom for strep was a tummy ache. No fever, no sore throat... who knows how long she had it. Those letters sure are effective.

Oh the mud splattered victims
Have to pay out all along the ancient highway
Torn between half truth and victimisation
Fighting back with counter attacks
It's when that rough god goes riding
When the rough god goes gliding
And then rough god goes riding
Riding on in
I was flabbergasted by the headlines
People in glasshouses throwing stones
Gaping wounds that will never heal
Now they're moaning like a dog in a manger
It's when that rough god goes riding
And then the rough god goes gliding
There'll be nobody hiding
When that rough god comes riding on in
And it's a matter of survival
When you're born with your back against the wall
Won't somebody hand me a bible
Won't you give me that number to call
When that rough god goed riding
And then that rough god goes gliding
They'll be nobody hiding
When that rough god goes riding on in
Riding on in
When that rough god goed riding
When that rough god goes gliding
There'll be nobody hiding
When that rough god goes riding on in
Riding on in
There'll be no more heroes
They'll be reduced to zero
When that rough god goes riding
Riding on in
Riding on in

I know what you're going through and feel for you, Hadassah. I suffered from sinusitis for years and never knew that's what it was -- all I knew was that I would get "motion sickness" standing perfectly still. It was awful. It was so bad, by the time we found out what it was, though, I had to have sinus surgery.
