Eh, probably not.

It is 97 degrees in downtown S.F. as I write this. Do you have any idea how seldom it gets to 97 degrees here? It will be sweltering up at my place in Vallejo.

I think not. The weird thing is that over in Novato it is only 88 degrees. Almost never happens that it is hotter in S.F. and Vallejo, because we have the breeze off the water.

We are going out to dinner somewhere after Mrs. Rayman gets home from work. There is no way I am firing up the oven or even the crockpot.

A nice shrimp salad at Red Lobster sounds good to me.

Sorry you back in hospital but glad for you and baby.

My mom had my older brother at about 32 weeks and had to leave him at hospital for about a month because he was puny and it was 1951.

How much better to keep the little bugger in the belly a few extra weeks and then be able to take him/her home with you?

Makes me think, have I missed whether we are talking girl or boy here or are you keeping it a surprise/

Smyrna, are you around?

I thought of you this morning. We have a flock or two of wild turkeys that roam the neighborhood. There is one busy street, and during my morning walks I periodically help these turkeys safely cross the street. One was giving me a little trouble until I told it, "You get your tail across the street, or I'm calling Smyrna!" And off he trotted with no further problem. I think I might have made a good goose girl in an earlier time.

She's a girl.

I feel pretty confident that she (the baby will be okay) regardless of when she's born, but better to hang on until she is more "grown up" so she can come home sooner and not spend too much time in the NICU.

Thanks Haddie. I was surprised and disappointed when I was sent back to the hospital, but I also do not doubt that it is the right thing to do. That's my thought. My mom had to leave my brother for a month in what they called an "isolette," an incubator kind of thing. When I came along and was a little bigger than he had been she refused to leave me in the hospital since she already had preemie experience.

I am sure you would love to get wheeled out the front door of the hospital with new baby girl in your arms. I hope you get to do that.

I've got to hand it to Carrie Prejean, Miss California, First Runner up in the Miss USA pageant. She was the contestant who was asked her opinion of gay marriage by a pageant judge who was known to be in favor of it.

When she heard the question she knew she had a choice: Answer it the way the judge wanted and probably continue on to be Miss USA; or, answer it according to her faith and own beliefs and end being the fourth runner up.

I also like the fact that she does not seem to be at all bitter, but remains upbeat and cheerful, and glad that she stood her ground.

I'm in a waiting mode. A friend was supposed to help me this morning so I could get part of this "crisis" handled and I'm waiting for said friend to call me. I've paged and I've called twice. Can't do much more than that. Everyone else is working today.

The glory of the Lord appeared...before all the children of Israel. (Numbers 14:10)

Move Forward!

People once thought the world was flat and that you would sail off the edge. They thought man would never walk on the moon. In 1899 the U.S. patent office almost closed because the CEO said, "Everything that can be invented already has been." In retrospect his statement is ridiculous. But some of us have bought into the same philosophy about our lives. We stop learning because we're "too old." We're afraid to change careers in case we "jeopardize our pension." We don't pursue our dreams in case we fail or get ridiculed. We're so accustomed to self-imposed limitations that we tell ourselves, "I can't do that, so I can't do anything." In essence we're building a box, crawling inside, then looking for something to blame for our lack of faith. God didn't box you in, you did, and you need to take the initiative for breaking out!

When you get down to it, there's very little difference in people. But the little difference amounts to a big difference, and the little difference is attitude; it determines whether you see life through the eyes of faith or the lens of fear. When others around him saw only giants and wanted to turn back, Caleb said, "If the Lord delights in us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us" (Nu 14:8). At that point two things happened. First, "All the congregation said to stone them" (v.10). Second, "The glory of the Lord appeared in the Tabernacle." Caleb's critics said "no," but God said "yes."

All you need is God's approval. When you have it, disregard the nay-sayers and move forward!

Now when you go into your bed tonight,

And sympathy is what we need, my friends
And sympathy is what we need
And sympathy is what we need my friends
'Cause there's not enough love to go round.

Well, I'm back in the hospital again. I had a doctor's appointment this morning, and she did not like what she saw, and had me admitted (not committed) to the hospital.:frown:

But no worries, I'm fine.:) She says I'll be here for three weeks. She does not want a 31 week baby, but I guess she can live with a 34 week baby.

what was it that she didn't like?

I found it. I was close:

Now when you climb, into your bed tonight.
And when you lock and bolt the door.
Just think of those, out in the cold and dark,
`cause there's not enough love to go `round.

And sympathy is what we need my friend,
and sympathy is what we need.
And sympathy is what we need my friend,
`cause there's not enough love to go `round,
no there's not enough love to go `round.

Now half the world, hates the other half.
And half the world, has all the food
And half the world, lies down and cries :We starve,
`cause there's not enough love to go `round.

And sympathy is what we need my friend,
and sympathy is what we need.
And sympathy is what we need my friend,
`cause there's not enough love to go `round,
no there's not enough love to go `round.

Now I need to find the CD, if it even exists.

They are kind of fun. It's a pretty basic bread dough, but after you shape them into bagels, you boil them for a minute or two before you bake them. Boiling is what makes them chewy.

As we are seeing, there are apparently several versions of Cincinnati chili. I thought both cinnamon and spaghetti were absolute musts, but it's been years since we lived in the Cincinnati area. I remember fast food places (and I never tried it there) had several different varieties (One Way through Five Way) but I thought that had more to do with extra onions, green peppers, beans and the like.

I was thinking more along the lines of:

2. Dresser drawers.
3. ?

How to cook a cricket: Members of Boys and Girls Clubs offer creative recipes

By ADELLA HARDING, Staff Writer
Monday, June 16, 2003 4:50 PM PDT

ELKO - How about Mormon Cricket Stew? Or a recipe that calls for melted caramel, chocolate and roasted crickets?

"We've got some awesome recipes for Mormon crickets," Boys and Girls Clubs of Elko Executive Director Fernando Vargas announced tongue-in-cheek at a lunch gathering of boys and girls.

A number of the youngsters in the Boys and Girls Club that meets at Southside School this summer came up with Mormon cricket recipes for fun and in recognition of the waves of crickets plaguing the Elko area.

First place in the "recipe" contest went to Saila Greener, whose recipe calls for 20 crickets, 10 carrots, six potatoes, some peas, pieces of coconut and a little chocolate.

"First, get 20 crickets. Then put your water in and put it on the stove. Then put in your carrots after they are cut and washed. Peel six potatoes and wash them. Then cut them. Add some peas. Put some pieces of coconuts in it and some chocolate. Then stir and cook. When you are done, it's time to eat," she joked.

Second place went to Tyler Hosler, whose untitled recipe calls for 20 Mormon crickets, 1 cup caramel, melted and 1 cup chocolate.

"Melt the caramel and chocolate together and roast 20 Mormon crickets. Then dip them in the mix and let it set," he wrote.

Third place went to Josh Stepic, who came up with a recipe for Mormon Cricket Soup.

"1. First you boil the Mormon crickets in hot water. 2. Next, you add noodles and vegetables. 3. Then, you wait for 5 minutes. 4. You add the broth. 5. You put it in 5 bowls," he wrote.

No biography, no location, no interests, no occupation. In other words, I'm not even here, which I'm sure most of you will agree sums me up pretty well. Are all of you who are on my friends list aware that you have an invisible friend? I do stop by and visit every so often--dust you off so to speak. But I don't know what to do with you.

Hey, don't be dissing the Yankees. I'm a New Yorker by birth, and I never heard of Cincinnati Chili until I moved to Kentucky. I never had cinnamon, nutmeg or cocoa in my chili.

if there's cinnamon in it it's not longer chili but goulash.

Until today, I've never heard of adding chocolate to chili. Are you sure it wasn't your version of me mixing chili with cheesecake or ice cream?

chocolate in stuff is very mexican/south american......i personally don't do it, but do use baking cocoa to darken gravy......adds no flavor whatsoever and turns it a nice shade of dark brown.

Morning Devotional

Now the Angel of the LORD came and sat under the terebinth tree which was in Ophrah, which belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, while his son Gideon threshed wheat in the winepress, in order to hide it from the Midianites. And the Angel of the LORD appeared to him, and said to him, “The LORD is with you, you mighty man of valor!” Gideon said to Him, “O my lord, if the LORD is with us, why then has all this happened to us? And where are all His miracles which our fathers told us about, saying, ‘Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the LORD has forsaken us and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.” Then the LORD turned to him and said, “Go in this might of yours, and you shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites. Have I not sent you?” So he said to Him, “O my Lord, how can I save Israel? Indeed my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house. (Judges 6:11-15)

A Seedbed of Faith

We often think of Gideon as a great champion for Israel, and he was. But when he was chosen, we found him cowering in the winepress. He was hiding, he was fearful, he was negative, he was doubtful, and he was questioning.

While we might be critical of Gideon, I have found that the only people who never question are those who have been indoctrinated. Sometimes you need to doubt. Sometimes you need to question. In fact, a lot of times uncertainty is the seedbed from which faith grows.

If you are struggling with doubt today, if you have genuine questions, don’t panic. If you are sincerely looking for answers, God will meet you, and faith will spring from the answers you find.

Rise and Shine Y'all!

A good morning to all in HannityLand; may your day be blessed.

In another thread, there was talk of "Tales" so now I am in the mood for stories. I was thinking it might be fun to tell an old family story about the good old days. But you know me. I'm easy. A story about anything will do. Here's one my grandfather told us. I like it because it involves school.

Grandpa and his friend, Larry, used to ride together to school on Larry’s horse. It was about a two mile ride from the farms into the grade school, and many children made the trip on horseback. They would tie up the animal outside the school house doors. One day arriving just outside the entrance, Grandpa dismounted while Larry was still on the horse. "Someone," Grandpa would tell us (with a twinkle in his eye), “slapped the horse on the rump, and into the classroom charged the horse with Larry still on board."

Favorite family story. My brother B was in 4th grade, where he had an assignment to write a letter to somebody. He wrote to my brother M who was living in MT at the time. Just a little background information.

We always had cows when I was growing up, anywhere from 1 to 3. Jerseys, to be exact. When they were younger they, had the moniker "the heifer." After having a few calves their name changed to "bossy," and when their kids started having kids the name went to "grandma."

So here is B's letter.

Dear M,
Grandma seemed like she was pretty sick, so Dad was going to kill her. But it turns out she was just pregnant. It was twins.

Needless to say, B's teacher was pretty shocked, and called my parents to see what kind of insanity was happening at our house. They all had a good laugh when the truth came out.

It reminds me of an assignment my daughter turned in which was about the short life and death of one of our parakeets. She meant to say the family buried the parakeet out in the back yard. Instead she wrote, "I was so upset; I buried my family in the back yard."

CID! I need to know how to squeeze a daughter's head until her eyes pop out! I need to instill the fear of God into her!

I started my morning weeding, up at the top of the hill where the weeds were thickest. I was only up there for about a half-hour, when I look down and find that I am literally crawling with ants--some places so thick that skin or clothes could not be seen. So I grab my bag full of weeds and slide down the hill, tearing off my clothes and grabbing the hose because those ants were underneath my shirt, pants--everywhere. I began rinsing off with the hose.

Said daughter comes to the back door and begins laughing.

"Come help me!" I order.
"Oh, no," she tells me. "Not while I'm laughing and you're armed with a hose."

Smart girl.

I'm covered with ant bites, and it still feels like I'm crawling with ants.

This is interesting. Sources say that Plan B, an over-the-counter "Morning After Pill" is going to become available to seventeen year old girls. It appears that now they need a prescription, and that those eighteen and over must show their ID to purchase the morning after pill. The cost would be between $35-60.

What I haven't yet been able to find information about is why age seventeen if the FDA is going to break away from adult supervision for this pill? How long before the age restriction is sixteen, fourteen, thirteen?

Poor Meri!!

Now, depending on your strength you can use your hands, but vice grips are effective as well. Grab the child at the temples and squeeze, you'll hear a squeak a pop, and then a ping...once you hear this ping the eye has dislodged from the socket correctly...if you happen to hear a squelch there is no hope of vision being restored.

There is a reason I am not on the welcoming committee. Next time you come to my library bring a gift and leave the ants outside.

http://www.gourmetsleuth.com/images/mocha_frap.jpg

Thanks for the reminder. The ants have probably crawled off my clothes by now; I should go gather the clothes and toss them in to wash. I was having a wonderful muddy, dusty time up on the hill this morning until I realized that a lot of the mud and dust on me was crawling around. However, the one good thing is that California has tiny, sissy ants. I would have been in a world of hurt if this had happened in Texas--but then I probably would have noticed the ants a lot sooner. As it is, I'm just in a world of itch, and that's faded from most places.

I have another gift for you, too, but it will take a few minutes to fit it into the zoning regulations I adhere to in this thread.

The second gift I promised Vir for her library. It's so "her" don't you all (y'all) agree?

might as well be since you can get an abortion, or any reproductive care without parental permission at any age. but your kids are on your health insurance to 25 (or older in some cases) if they are in school. You just have no say in their care.... :wall::wall::wall:

one of the reasons I don't work in peds.

What gets my back up is that I have this suspicion it's how they think they will soothe parents and others who are against cutting parents out of the loop. Cutting off one year doesn't sound like such a big deal--but I see it as an to attempt to avoid the greater controversy of the government AND pharmaceutical companies working around parental rights and authority.

I see such greedy eyes looking at CHILDREN and thinking, "We can make money here, if we can just get parents out of the way."

Attention on Deck!

Everyone HAS to see this post. We're adopting Andy! Not only did he give us a math lesson, he paid us a compliment--all in the same post!

The compliment is in the last line, Vir. You must read through the math lesson to get to it. Be strong.
Except for that math thing I reckon we can keep him. He has a good name. But as Lady Vir has pointed out...math sucks.

Thank God Hadassah can spell ya'll correctly. The rest of ya'll are just puttin' the "P" back in pathetic spelling-wise.

I don't need a left coaster to tell me, a bona fide southern gentleman, to see a Yankee on how to spell y'all. :snooty:

Well, I'm very close to getting this issue resolved. I've done all I can do and I'm praying that it will be enough, cause I just can't do anything else at this point.
Well, I hope it gets resolved to your satisfaction, whatever it is, Haddie.

I'm beginning to feel as though some things will not be resolved for me until I'm dead.

Speaking of my Southern posterior...it's a little larger this evening.

Indulged in the best barbecue in the world this evening.

Had some ribs, tater salad, cole slaw, baked beans, sweet tea, and topped that off with a slice of lemon icebox pie.

Mighty fine, mighty fine.

The way I feel tonight I don't even care if I have enough regrets to mention...

"Regrets, I've had a few
but then again, too few to mention"....

Disgusted that I can't say I did what I had to do without exemption.

I want to travel each and every highway.

I'm just about ready to take the blows....
