Morning Devotional
Let each one of you speak truth. (Ephesians 4:25)
Rules for Handling Anger (3)
Rule 3: Keep it current. Storing anger in your hard drive only hurts you. When you download old resentments you start to rehearse them and grow bitter. "The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks" (Lk 6:45).
When you're angry deal with it quickly. Don't passively allow time to decide your options, or sit around hoping the other person will see the light and apologize. "If your brother sins against you, go [to] him" (Mt 18:15).
Try to resolve it and restore the relationship. When you repress it you add one more skeleton to your closet. Sooner or later, doctors say, it'll be at your stomach lining, attack your immune system, predispose you to heart problems, cancers and other physical, social and emotional disorders. Meantime, it'll preoccupy you, dissipate your energy, cripple your creativity, hinder your fellowship with God, your friends and fellow believers; not to mention that it denies the offender the opportunity to clear their conscience, repent and get right with God and you.
Stop dragging up the past, trying to blackmail the guilty by hauling skeletons out of closets at "auspicious" moments, plotting revenge, and passing down resentments for the next generation to carry. Ask God for the humility and courage to deal with today's problems - today. When your head hits the pillow tonight, know that your issues are current, up to date with God and everyone else, and sleep well!

It is beautiful here today. 72° and sunny. My husband suggested that we rent a wheelchair so that we could go for a walk like I did at the hospital. I called my doctor's office to see if A) it was okay for me to go for a wheelchair ride, and B) where we could rent a wheelchair.
I could only leave a message when I called, but a couple of hours later my doctor called me back and said nope, sorry.
But she said to ask again at my next appointment, which is Monday. In the meantime she said STAY IN BED!!!!!!!!!!
Tomorrow is 72° and sunny again. At least that's what the internet says.

He yelled at both me and my uncle the other day for checking in. I haven't spoken to him since Tuesday. I've been getting updates from my stepmother. So this really seemed like a slap in the face. It seems to me, though, that his daughter and his brother should get to check in more than his church friends... who seem to be able to literally stop in without announcing and are welcomed with open arms.

Not ncecessarily. Here is a site I found that seems to use a similar process to what I did once upon a time.
http://www.cyberwalker.com/article/41
However, Hadassah, I warn you that you may want a second opinion on this. Part of the reason I have no hesitation at all to do anything I want with my computer is that I know if I should ever get myself into really serious trouble (which I have), that I cannot get myself out (which I always get myself out of), I have a husband and brother-in-law who are always happy to rescue me.
Every so often I enjoy fiddling around, but before, during, and after I do a heck of a lot of reading and research.
I recommend reading the above site, think about it, and then ask RayMan when he comes in.

Morning Devotional
Let each one of you speak truth. (Ephesians 4:25)
Rules for Handling Anger (4)
Rule 4: Keep it solution-focused. Someone has said that fellowship is like two fellows in a ship: one can't sink the other without sinking himself. By seeking to gain the upper hand you both lose. By seeking to save and strengthen the relationship you both win. So when you speak, be sure it's "helpful for building others up according to their needs" (Eph 4:29).
Try to understand what the other person needs. Don't bring up previously confessed offenses; don't drag in other people; don't use wisecracks about people's weight, height, color, IQ, physical, mental and emotional limitations; don't bring up unrelated things that cloud the issue and keep you from finding a solution. And don't raise the volume in order to intimidate and manipulate. God made you with a capacity for anger because when handled the right way it's the fuel that brings needed change and the medicine that heals. So:
(a) Seek a solution, not a "victory." Name-calling and "diagnosing" others only makes things worse. Your focus should not be on what they did, but on what you can do together to resolve it.
(b) Admit your own flaws and ask for forgiveness. Since it takes two to tango, acknowledging your own imperfections makes it easier for someone else to acknowledge theirs.
(c) Every time you take a "swing" at someone, offer them a positive "stroke." "If there be any virtue...think on these things" (Php 4:8). For each of the difficulties you address, give a compliment. "I'm sure this wasn't easy for you to hear. Thanks for listening to me so graciously." Being solution-focused gives people something positive to live up to, not down to!

Every so often I enjoy fiddling around, but before, during, and after I do a heck of a lot of reading and research.
I recommend reading the above site, think about it, and then ask RayMan when he comes in.
Thank you.
Looks easy enough. Thing is, I can't figure out where the model number is on my computer. There's a couple of stickers on the side of my computer with a bunch of numbers on both. Which one the is the model number, I haven't a clue.
I wonder if those evidence erasers work as well as they claim they do. I have an old computer here that I haven't gotten rid of because it has business info stored on the hard drive. That's info I don't want anyone getting ahold of.

Hey,
We talking laptop or desktop machine? If you have an old machine you want to get rid of, just pull off the side panel, unplug the power and data cables from hard drive, then pull the hard drive out of the box. Hold onto the hard drive and throw away - er, that is, recycle, the rest.

Hadassah, you can also find the model number of your computer by going to and clicking on:
My Computer
Next, Click on System Properties. (I think at school, it may just say "Properties") so look for something like that.
You should be able to find your model number there--and they even identify it as "Model Number." ;)

It's a desktop.
Why save the hard drive, though, if I can get everything erased? Or, I read somewhere that if you put a hole through it, that works so that info cannot be accessed. Is that true?

You can certainly drill a hole or two through it after you pull it out. Kind of hard to do while it is in computer. If there is a chance you might want to pull data off the hard drive in the future it is a lot easier to store a hard drive in a desk drawer than to hold onto a bulky old computer.

Religion Forum Post of the Week
Thank you, Abe. We appreciate the words of wisdom.
With all due respect, (and respect there is), this is a matter that cannot be reconciled. The meaning of the psalm is not the same in Judaism as it is in Christianity. The translation is wrong in every translation that I've read. I realise that it's a holy time for Christians but it's no less holy for Jews. Both are deserving of respect.
This is one of those things that, IMO, should just be left alone. To my fellow Jews I say this, "Let it go, please. We cannot agree on this. Let each religion interpret this psalm in it's own way, and let everyone go in peace."

Evidence erasers vary. What you want is a hard drive wiper. The best of them use a defense department spec algorithm to wipe the drive.
What this does is overwrite the entire disk with random data multiple times. You boot your computer using a cd version of a program, and from that you can wipe all drive data from the computer.
One I can personally recommend is DriveScrubber by Iolo. http://www.iolo.com/ds/3/
No software will totaly make all data unreadable. With some very specialized technology you can even read a wiped drive. However, this process, and the equipment capable of performing it, is so expensive that someone would have to really, really want what you have on the drive, so unless you have military secrets on your drive or data that would provide someone millions if they got their hands on it, it's not a realistic worry.
Do get software and wipe the drive even if you keep the computer and/or drive. Breakins can happen and things get stolen, so it would make sense under any circumstances to wipe data you don't want someone to get their hands on.
I hope this helps.

Well, in that case, after you do the software wipe, you might want to get a vat of highly concentrated hydrochloric acid, disaddemble the drive and put the platters in the acid bath. After letting sit for several hours, remove the platters and rinse thourougly with water. Then grind the platters into powder just to be safe. ;)
Seriously, that does help. Thank you.

Reminds me of a line from the Addams Family movie where Wednesday and Puggsley were selling lemonade and were confronted by a couple of girl scouts who asked if it was made from real lemons, upon which Wednesday asked if their girl scout cookies were made from real girl scouts.
I'm a little embarrassed that I remember that from a movie that I saw nearly two decades ago.

I agree. I don't mind cats, but dogs are great. The only thing about cats that I like better than dogs is if I'm on vacation they are much more independent. I can leave for a few days and only have somebody peek in on a cat, and the cat is fine. Not so with a dog. But I'll take that for the affection and devotion dogs have that cats lack.

Daily Devotional
Let each one of you speak truth. (Ephesians 4:25)
Rules for Handling Anger (5)
Rule 5: Keep it in the laundry room. "Don't treat each other with malice" [ill will, spite] (See Eph 4: 31). When you're angry, spreading gossip is hard to resist. But malicious talk is like wildfire; it consumes those who spread it and those who listen to it. Don't display your dirty wash; keep it in the laundry room.
Dirty laundry gets aired in two ways:
(1) Open embarrassment. You say it where you know others are going to hear it.
(2) Subtlety. You make jokes about their figure, family members and friends, etc., in order to belittle them. This results in embarrassment for the person you're angry at, widens the gap between you and makes reconciliation impossible.
Solomon writes: "He that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter" (Pr 11:13), and "Love covereth all sins" (Pr 10:12). Paul writes: "In malice be babes, but in understanding be mature" (1Co 14:20).
Rule 6: Be part of the clean-up crew. We say, "They brought it on themselves. Let them get over it." They may have deserved it, but we can't walk away and leave open wounds to become infected. We "forgive, even as Christ...has forgiven" us (See Eph 4: 32).
How did Christ forgive us? After we'd acknowledged, confessed and repented of our sins? No. "When we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son" (Ro 5:10). God took the initiative, so forgive, before the other person asks for forgiveness. And should they remain your enemy for life, forgive them anyhow. That's mopping up after the war. Only then are you yourself forgiven, the wounds you inflicted healed, and your record before God expunged!

Two found and repaired. I was afraid there might have been a third, but at the moment I am hopefully optimistic that is it--at least for that location.
Earth First made me think of Earth Day. That brought back some memories. In high school media class (newspaper, yearbook, photography) were the two most radical boys in the school who were very supportive of Earth Day. Think of me as the most conservative girl. The three of us were often off together covering some school event, such as Earth Day. My more radical younger sister grabbed me one day and said, "Would you stop hanging out with them! You're embarrassing me. No one understands how the three of you can possibly be friends! You're nothing like them! It doesn't even look appropriate, except with you, everyone knows it is."

It was just a one day thing. Thankfully. Of course that one day was pretty miserable, but I can't complain because it was so short.
Family is doing well. My daughter is just growing up so fast. It seems so recently that she was a baby, but she is clearly a little girl now. I still don't understand a word, but she talks A LOT. She is definitely her own person. I tried to get her to like red as her favorite color, but it's a no go. She is all pink and ribbons. I was (am) nothing like that. She is handling being farmed out every day like a real trooper. She has gotten good reports from everybody who has taken care of her.
My husband is doing well. He has stepped up to the plate quite admirably. Meanwhile I lie around feeling relatively fine, not helping at all. Makes me feel just a little bit guilty. But I also know I'm doing the right thing.

Yes, you are doing the right thing. Are you familiar with the joke of the husband coming home to a house that was all topsy-turvy; the kids were running wild; nothing was cooking in the way of dinner; wife was watching TV.
Husband asks wife, "What happened?"
Wife replies, "You know how you always ask me what I've done all day? Well, today, I didn't do it."
There will be a new appreciation for all you do; plus, you get to appreciate what they are doing to help prepare for your new arrival.
I remember that stage where my girls were "talking" but not quite forming words. They reminded me of little R2D2s running around, beeping.

my daugther was a girlie-girl from the getgo, too. I took her shopping once when she was about 3 1/2 to get her Christmas dress. She was in her stroller as we went into one of our better department stores (they had great sales ...i'm all about sales!). As we went through the door, she was greeted with all the decorations and glitz and gasped, saying in awe, "OOOOOOOooh mommy, I LIKE this place!" We got home and I said to my husband, "get another job".

The secret things belong to the Lord. (Deuteronomy 29:29)
Trusting God When There are No Answers
Life's losses leave us hurting and wondering. Cancer takes a young mother or father. Divorce strikes your happy home. Financial ruin devastates your retirement plans. A child goes to jail, is killed or commits suicide. Such times raise questions which are difficult, if not impossible to answer. We examine the circumstances again and again. We speculate about the details, searching for clues that might make some sense and make it easier for us to bear. We turn the spotlight on ourselves, others, even God, wondering what could or should have been done differently that might have prevented this. We turn to friends, fellow believers and pastors only to hear what sounds like religious platitudes and inadequate attempts to minimize our pain. When answers don't seem forthcoming and the heavens are silent, what should you do?
Here are two Scriptures to help you in such times:
(1) "The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us" (Dt 29:29). When it comes to understanding things, we have our territory, God has His. And ours is limited to what He decides to reveal. At that point you must "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding" (Pr 3:5).
(2) "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God" (Ro 8:28). God may explain it to you, or He may not. But He's "the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End" (Rev 22:13), which means, He has a plan and He's working it out for our good and His glory.
So trust Him!

I LOVE teaching kids how to smoke. :cool:While I know it was intentional, every time I read those words when I have opened this thread since you posted them, I have gotten a  feeling...lol
Boy Scout campout, several other troops were there. Great weather and everyone had a lot of fun. Shot rockets, ran a zip line, had a two man crosscut saw competition.
And for dinner, I smoked an 11 pound brisket. Had enough to bring home for the wife for Sunday dinner. Before you say "Ewww leftovers".... some things get better with time and age.

Sorry for the low quality cellphone pic. Tis all I had.Boy scouting has to be one of the most entertaining endeavors. My favorite was the ash cooked baked potatoes when we would go camping. The brisket sounds delicious!

OK, guys, I got myself into a situation that I'm going to need God's grace and mercy to get out of. And the sooner I get out of it, the better. (Especially financially). It is totally my fault. I need prayers so that God will help me deal with the situation quickly, without spending money I need for things like groceries, bills, medicine, rent, utilities, etc. If I use the money I was planning on buying the Wii with, I don't care. And I need prayers so that certain patterns in my life change, so I don't get into another fix like this one.
Thank you for your prayers for this idiot!

Dear God,
First I pray that you will tell Hadassah to stop calling herself an idiot.
Second, please help her.
Amen.

All right, dear one, but hear this: If you think of yourself as an idiot, you've as good as given yourself permission to act like one. Therefore think of yourself as intelligent and you will live out this belief of yourself.

It is a sad fact that just because one is smart, it does not insure all of one's choices are smart.
Professor Dumbledore also observed the same thing I have noticed: Everyone makes mistakes, and the more intelligence one has, the proportionately greater are the mistakes.
However, I still say it is a mistake to start from the perspective that one is an idiot.
