You obviously haven't been teaching LaCrosse when someone get's their fingers smashed. "Darn!" is heard quite a lot, so yes, LaCrosse players do "darn."

I can convince students they really like the mile run and doing push-ups, so pointing out the pleasures of math (at least at the middle school level) is a piece of cake.

I only ask for an "atta girl" for the really difficult things. Have you ever heard the maxim, "Ask and you shall receive?"

Yes. It figures strongly in the Pentecostal Version New Testament. Ask gpd.

Do you ever point out the pleasures of a piece of cake to them?

Should you threaten them in here with your paddle? I'll hold them down...

I'll just threaten them with more poor sentence structure, a few typos, and maybe a misspelled word. They have more fear of those than any paddle.

I did go to college--worked full-time, part-time, managed apartments, and pretty much the only thing I knew about college partying was taking care of drunk/drugged roomies when they came home Thursday, Friday, Saturday nights.

I did go out, but the friend and I from high school were more interested in mountains, ferries, lakes, and ice cream than alcohol and drugs.

What are her symptoms? The "usua"l headache, sinus, sore throat, aches, fever? There is a particularly nasty variety going around the school I usually work. Many kids are out at least a week from it, and even then suffer through the week they return.

meggers49

No, I've been paying attention to submission since last Fall when I heard a good case that submissiveness brings spiritual blessings and is good for one.

snip

Since last Fall, (when I've thought about it) I've looked for opportunities to be submissive. It's not as easy as you might think. For example, it would petrify my husband if I went up to him and said, "Honey, guess what, I'm going to start being submissive."

You guys, be honest! What if YOUR wife announced she was going to be submissive? Wouldn't it scare you just a little?

Even with some fairly easy opportunities, I quickly discovered being submissive is not easy, and that sometimes opportunities are just not to be had.

snip

Instead of hooting, Ray, you should be patting me on the back and giving me "atta girls."

My husband would probably be thrilled. It would lessen contention in our house. I try also, however if you read Paul, the "recipe" is submission for wives.......not subervience mind you, and in return, love from the husband.

Defining love is a difficult thing, just as defining submission is. It's a difficult two-way street to navigate.

I contend (no pun intended) that much of the strife in this country comes from losing site that there has to be hierarchy. I am not calling it, "put in ones place" but rather SOMEONE has to be a leader because if there are TWO leaders, it can lead down two roads. not helpful.

Submission means, it's not ''all about me". Sometimes what you think is the way around something ISN'T the best way to go, because it takes you through brambles and nettles, while going the straight path may take you through deep water, but instead of getting sliced by the prickers and delayed by the longer route, you get wet, but are there faster and then you're dry and none the worse for wear.

I don't think you're supposed to LOOK FOR opportunities. If something comes along and you are asked/told/advised to do something and it's not what YOU'D want it to be, but it's not WRONG, then you should do what you're asked/told, even if you don't want to.

As I have said to my husband, and as I've learned from how he does things, just because it's not the way I'D DO IT, doesn't make it wrong. It's a hard thing, letting go of control, but that's where faith comes in, because in truth, I'm NOT in control and I have to believe that if I do what I'm supposed to do, God will take care of the situation.

There are, I think, always opportunities, whenever you see a moment to put someone else's desires ahead of your own. It is part of humility and meekness of spirit. Which doesn't translate to wimp, it just means putting others ahead of self.

In return, one hopes that the person to whom you have committed your life will reciprocate with doing for you what is best for your spirit, and in loving you, will give you the space you need to be who you are, too.

I fail at this miserably. I am getting much better at it than I ever thought but fall back constantly. It is my goal this year, to get my life in order so that I will be the woman of God I should be, and in doing that, my husband will be the man of God I know he is destined to be.

I love you all. Have a good day.

I contend (no pun intended) that much of the strife in this country comes from losing site that there has to be hierarchy. I am not calling it, "put in ones place" but rather SOMEONE has to be a leader because if there are TWO leaders, it can lead down two roads. not helpful.

The reason submission and I have barely had more than a nodding acquaintance is because I am good with everyone doing what they want in the way they want. If I don't like the way something is being done, I simply go off and do it the way I want. People can then either to continue to do it their way, or they can join me in my way. I am completely okay with either choice.

If you want to go swimming, you have to look for water. I don't think I go overboard with it, but I do tend to having loner tendencies, which means I naturally gravitate towards situations or solutions to situations that I can find a way of handling on my own and by myself. On the other hand, when I do ask for advice or guidance, I tend towards taking it, at least to the best of my ability. Doing something the way another person would is often an awkward fit for me, so it takes some effort on my part.

I wouldn't say that having to control a situation is my approach, either. I'm usually the one handling the fallout.

It's a worthy goal, meggers, and I wish you all the best.

Morning Devotional

You are the salt of the earth. (Matthew 5:13)

What are You Called to Do? (1)

Sometimes what a person contributes doesn't get noticed until they're no longer around to do it. The story's told of the husband who came home from work to find his house in a complete mess. The baby was crying, there were dishes piled up in the sink and dirty laundry on the floor. The TV was blaring, beds weren't made, carpets weren't vacuumed and dinner wasn't ready. When he demanded to know what was up, his wife said, "You know how you always ask what I've been doing all day? Well, today I didn't do it."

The Bible says, "Each one should retain the place in life ...to which God has called him" (1Co 7:17 NIV). This doesn't mean that we should not aspire to greater things. It just means that if we can't start here where we are, we can't start at all.

One day Jesus healed a demon-possessed man who'd spent years separated from his family. After being set free, the man wanted to travel with Jesus. But Jesus said, "No, go back home and tell them what the Lord has done for you" ( See Lk 8:39). In other words, start where you are, use what you've got, and do what you can. The Bible says: "You are the salt of the earth." Salt doesn't exist for its own pleasure. It must be poured into something bigger than itself; only then does it fulfill its purpose.

But be careful, don't be ego-driven. The quest for significance can be misleading. You can't do it by yourself for yourself, you must do it with God and for His purposes - then God will bless you!

When you take them off the stove don't just rinse them down a little, get them cold fast. I usually have a container with ice water I throw them into for a few minutes. Since I started doing that I almost never have any hassle when peeling them.

You are the salt of the earth. (Matthew 5:13)

What are You Called to Do? (2)

When God called Moses, one of the questions He asked him was, "What is that in your hand?" (Ex 4:2) . Moses held his shepherd's staff. It represented his livelihood; it's what he was good at. It represented his income; his flock was his wealth and his family's security. God asked him to be willing to lay it down.

God still asks, "What is that in your hand?" What has been given to you? Your gifts, your money, your temperament, your experience, your relationships, your mind, your education. God has given you what Dr. Martin Seligman calls "signature strengths." Seligman found that human abilities fall into certain categories. He defined them as:

(a) Wisdom and knowledge (which includes abilities like curiosity, love of learning, sound judgment, and social intelligence).

(b) Courage (perseverance and integrity).

(c) Humanity (with capacities for kindness and the expression of mercy).

(d) Justice (the ability to bring about fairness and leadership).

(e) Temperance (qualities like self control, prudence, humility).

(f) Transcendence (the appreciation of beauty, the expression of gratitude, the ability of hope, the capacity for joy).

We all have the capacity for each of these strengths, but a few resonate more deeply in you; they are your "signature strengths." Identify these, and you begin to understand your calling.

Sometimes we think God couldn't or wouldn't use us because of our weaknesses. No, the opposite is true. No one can speak to those who grieve, better than those who've suffered loss. Chuck Colson was the chief White House lawyer, until Watergate. But it wasn't until he was a convict that he was prepared to begin prison fellowship. Today, if you let him, God will use you.

Is it possible on a laptop that the power cord powers the battery but not the computer itself?

On my computer, the icon indicating whether the source of power is the battery or the cord has indicated the battery for two days now. No matter how much I fiddle with the connection in the back I can no longer get the computer to get AC power. But at the same time the battery is holding up amazingly well. Two days ago it was on 74%. Today it is down to 67%. It seems to only go down when I remove the power cord.

Are you running Windows on a laptop? If so, right click on an empty part of your desktop, and pick properties.

Then go to Screensaver, power.

Go to Powermeter and see if it tells you it is charging - with power adaptor plugged into wall and laptop of course. It could just be showing wrong icon. in Taskbar.

Another thing to check is the adaptor itself. If the cord running from adaptor to laptop is removable from adaptor make sure the connection at the adaptor is secure.

Sounds like it is charging and then lying to you about it. Windows will do that. It's Baptist software you know.....

DENVER, Nov. 10 (UPI) -- A Denver area babysitter said her pet parrot may have saved the life of a 2-year-old girl by raising a ruckus when the toddler started choking.

The babysitter, who gave her name as Meagan, said she was using the bathroom in her home while babysitting for the 2-year-old, Hannah, when she heard her parrot, Willie, screaming wildly, KCNC-TV, Denver reported Monday.

"Willie started screaming like I'd never heard him scream before and he started flapping his wings," Meagan said. "Then he started saying 'mama baby' over and over and over again until I came out and looked at Hannah and Hannah's face was turning blue because she was choking on her pop tart."

Meagan said she performed the Heimlich maneuver and stopped the young child's choking.

"If (Willie) wouldn't have warned me, I probably wouldn't have come out of the bathroom in time because she was already turning blue, her lips were blue and everything," Meagan said.

Noelle, I once had a problem similar to what you are describing. The cord and plug-ins all seemed secure--and they were. But the circuit breaker to the electrical outlet on the wall had needed resetting. If you are certain about your cord and computer plug-ins, have you checked that you are getting power from the wall?

It also says that the power source is the battery.

Are you sure the outlet you are plugged into is hot? I believe they sometimes turn them off in hospital rooms. If it is hot and still nada then it sounds like a bad power adapter.

I wore bib overalls and a ponytail all through the 1970's. I ain't dissin' them.

My dad once told me that when he was growing up on a farm in Arkansas the adult men in the community would get a new pair of overalls every year at Christmas. Those would become their church going overalls and the ones from last year became their work overalls.

I'm thinking it depends. Sometimes I'm too patient with others. For example, I sometimes try to work with students too long--when it turns out the best thing I could have done for him would have been to immediately written him up.

Sometimes what we need to be a little more clear on, is what our immediate response (action) should be. Sometimes patience can be interpreted as not taking any action at all, and that can turn around and bite--big time.

What's up?
