Jefferson Davis has nothing to do with weather, so he is ineligible to be my avatar.

The "Great" FW? Obviously you didn't read Fire Watch's messages of yesterday. As holding him in high regard flatters and slightly embarrasses him, he has asked us to contain ourselves.

They know what caused the death of the boy at my son's school. Apparently it was a trauma to the brain. He had gone snowboarding the weekend before and hit his head but it didn't seem serious at the time. Almost like what happened with Natasha Richardson. :(

I lived off campus my last 2 years of college. The first year, my roomies and I lived on the 2nd floor of a 2 story house. Some guys who did not attend school where we did moved in the downstairs apartment a few months after we moved in. One Saturday morning, I woke up to banging on the door. I looked out my bedroom window, which was right over the front doors, to see the DEA! When the neighbors downstairs wouldn't let them in, the DEA started banging on my door. My roomies and I let them in....they wanted to gain access to the downstairs apartment through our apartment.

One day Little Johnny walks up to his Mom and says, “Mommy, is God Black or White?”
She replies, “Well, Honey, God is both Black and White.”
Then he says, “Mommy, is God a boy or a girl?”
“God is both a boy and a girl, Honey,” she replies.
“Mommy, is God gay or straight?” he inquires again.
Getting a little irritated, the mother replies, “Well, Honey, God is both gay and straight.”
After thinking for a moment, Johnny looks up and asks, “Mommy, is God Michael Jackson?”

Show and Tell

A kindergarten teacher gave her class a "show and tell" assignment of bringing something to represent their religion.

The first boy got in front of the class and said, "My name is Benjamin and I am Jewish and this is the Star of David."

The second boy got in front of the class and said, "My name is Matthew. I'm a Catholic and this is the Crucifix."

The third boy got in front of the class and said, "My name is Tommy and I am Baptist and this is a casserole."

A Rare Book

A collector of rare books ran into an acquaintance who told him he had just thrown away an old Bible that he found in a dusty, old box. He happened to mention that Guten-somebody-or-other had printed it.

"Not Gutenberg?" gasped the collector.

"Yes, that was it!"

"You idiot! You've thrown away one of the first books ever printed. A copy recently sold at auction for half a million dollars!"

"Oh, I don't think this book would have been worth anything close to that much," replied the man.
"It was scribbled all over in the margins by some guy named Martin Luther."

More seriously, is there a contributing factor or side issue she has that might at least be a foot in the door to somewhere?

I will go back to TurboTax next year. This year we had to take care of some mess from years past and went the H and R route. More money up front but they get to talk to the taxman when he says, "You did what???"

turbo tax does it all for you, after you punch in the info and they lead you step by step and double check your input, if the tax man has to ask:doh: you should have good records:razz:

Reactive Attachment Disorder
ADHD
Microcephaly
Pervasive Developmental Disorder

The biggest issue is all the places want to fix problems - FASD doesn't get fixed, but it needs to be dealt with realistically for the sake of the child and the general public.

Great!

You can play Catch-22.

There was only one catch and that was Catch-22, which specified that a concern for one's safety in the face of dangers that were real and immediate was the process of a rational mind. Orr was crazy and could be grounded. All he had to do was ask; and as soon as he did, he would no longer be crazy and would have to fly more missions. Orr would be crazy to fly more missions and sane if he didn't, but if he was sane he had to fly them. If he flew them he was crazy and didn't have to; but if he didn't want to he was sane and had to. Yossarian was moved very deeply by the absolute simplicity of this clause of Catch-22 and let out a respectful whistle.
"That's some catch, that Catch-22," Yossarian observed.
"It's the best there is," Doc Daneeka agreed.

Bypass the prison incarceration and find out where the people who help those who are in prison come from. They must have an outside facility somewhere.

Keeping an eye on the Religion Forum comes naturally to me, and besides, I find a lot of fun in it--there is so much territory and so many personalities to cover.

On the other hand, keeping an eye on the person who is keeping an eye on the Religion Forum would be, not above me, vir, but very boring. Think about it. "Let's watch Meri watch us." The place might come to a standstill.

Morning Devotional

Take Mark...he is profitable...for the ministry. (2 Timothy 4:11)

Seeing Others the Right Way
When John Mark decided to take time off to visit his family, it didn't sit too well with Paul. Later when Barnabas wanted to take John Mark on their next mission's trip, Paul exploded! "The contention became so sharp...they parted from one another...Barnabas took Mark and sailed to Cyprus; but Paul chose Silas" (Ac 15:38-40 NKJV).

But the story doesn't end there. Later, an older and wiser Paul who had learned to add grace to his grit, writes, "For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world...[so] Take Mark, and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry" (2Ti 4:10-11). There are three important lessons here for you:

(1) Always be willing to give someone a second chance. After all, that's what God does for you. Now in extending grace you can get hurt and disappointed, but if you're going to be Christ-like it's a risk you must take.

(2) Don't measure everybody else by your standards and goals. The truth is, they may not be called to do what you're called to do. Or they may have been called to do it in a different way. Don't make your personal preferences a precondition for loving, accepting and working with someone.

(3) When you look for the best in others you usually find it. The Bible says, "We have this treasure in earthen vessels" (2Co 4:7). So every time you meet the treasure you'll bump into the earthen vessel. Don't allow that to devalue the treasure, or your responsibility to look for it. Motivated people will rise to meet your expectations.

My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation.

There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.

Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.

The bows of the mighty men are broken, and they that stumbled are girded with strength.

They that were full have hired out themselves for bread; and they that were hungry ceased: so that the barren hath born seven; and she that hath many children is waxed feeble.

The LORD killeth, and maketh alive: he bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth up.

The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up.

He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD's, and he hath set the world upon them.

He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail.
The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: the LORD shall judge the ends of the earth; and he shall give strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed.

I received a strange phone call from my son's stepmother yesterday that seemed to be about her getting me into the middle of the issues she and my son's father are having, but before I say something to her about it, I am trying to think of other reasons she may have had for the call because things aren't always what they appear to be.

So, I was trying, in that post, to remind myself and be reminded that what I think happened isn't necessarily the case.

A case of logic versus instinct, then? One thing you might ask yourself is whether she asked you to do anything, or if it was just talking? If she asked you to do something, you may wish to listen to your instincts.

Morning Devotional

A married man...has to. (1 Corinthians 7:33)

Serving God - and Your Mate!

Paul writes: "An unmarried man can spend his time doing the Lord's work and thinking how to please him. But a married man can't do that so well. He has to think about...how to please his wife." Gayle Urban tells of browsing in a bookstore and discovering a shelf with reduced-price items. Among the gifts was a little figurine with a man and woman, their heads lovingly tilted toward one another. "Happy 10th Anniversary," read the inscription. It appeared to be in perfect condition yet its tag indicated "damaged." Examining it more closely, she found another tag underneath that read, "WIFE IS COMING UNGLUED!"

When you marry somebody, you marry everything they are and everything they have been through. It's a package deal! And if you ask God, He'll give you the grace to minister to your mate. You may not see immediate change. It takes time for even a small cut to heal. But if you allow Him, God will give you the oil of compassion and the wine of love to pour into their wounds. Never become so spiritual that you become unavailable. Your first calling is to your mate and your family. Your priorities should start there, then spread to your career, your vocation and other pursuits.

Paul says, in effect, "I release those who are married from the level of consecration I expect from those who are single, so that they'll be able to spend time working on their relationship." You say, "But I need to spend time with the Lord." That's true, and the Bible doesn't release you from your responsibility to God, it just sets some priorities. You're called to serve the Lord - and your mate!

Today's quote is from St. Francis de Sales.

You tell me you do not have the time to give two or three hours to prayer; who asks you to do so? No one can be excused from ejaculations because it can be made while coming and going about one's business. Recommend yourself to God the first thing in the morning, protest that you do not wish to offend Him, and then go about your affairs, resolved, nevertheless, to raise your spirit to God, even amidst company.

Okay, take notes! Last night I made a determined effort to be submissive and succeeded for just over the time it took people to make twenty posts here—or for a little over two hours—whichever it is you personally find most impressive. Note who I chose not to quote today, and who I did quote.

I realize I’ve set today’s standards for everyone quite high, but I know I can depend on the greater majority of you to keep Fire Watch in line. If he begins to misbehave (symptoms are sudden changes in user avatars and custom titles), post a link to something by Metallica, which will immediately distract him. I Just Can't Wait to Be King
[Simba:] I'm gonna be a mighty king
So enemies beware!
[Zazu:] Well, I've never seen a king of beasts
With quite so little hair
[Simba:] I'm gonna be the mane event
Like no king was before
I'm brushing up on looking down
I'm working on my ROAR
[Zazu:] Thus far, a rather uninspiring thing
[Simba:] Oh, I just can't wait to be king!
[Zazu: (Speaking)] You've rather a long way to go,
young master, if you think...
[Simba:] No one saying do this
[Zazu:] Now when I said that, I--
[Nala:] No one saying be there
[Zazu:] What I meant was...
[Simba:] No one saying stop that
[Zazu:] Look, what you don't realize...
[Simba and Nala:] No one saying see here
[Zazu:] Now see here!
[Simba:] Free to run around all day
[Zazu:] Well, that's definitely out...
[Simba:] Free to do it all my way!
[Zazu:] I think it's time that you and I
Arranged a heart to heart
[Simba:] Kings don't need advice
From little hornbills for a start
[Zazu:] If this is where the monarchy is headed
Count me out!
Out of service, out of Africa
I wouldn't hang about... aagh!
This child is getting wildly out of wing
[Simba:] Oh, I just can't wait to be king!
Everybody look left
Everybody look right
Everywhere you look I'm
Standing in the spotlight!
[Zazu: (Speaking, but in strict time)] Not yet!
[Chorus:] Let every creature go for broke and sing
Let's hear it in the herd and on the wing
It's gonna be King Simba's finest fling
[Simba & Chorus:] Oh I just can't wait to be king!
Oh I just can't wait to be king!
Oh I just can't waaaaaait ... to be king!

No, I've been paying attention to submission since last Fall when I heard a good case that submissiveness brings spiritual blessings and is good for one.

Like LaCrosse, I never thought submission was needed in my life--submission was kind of like never needing a darning egg--I chose other things and solved situations using other methods.

Since last Fall, (when I've thought about it) I've looked for opportunities to be submissive. It's not as easy as you might think. For example, it would petrify my husband if I went up to him and said, "Honey, guess what, I'm going to start being submissive."

You guys, be honest! What if YOUR wife announced she was going to be submissive? Wouldn't it scare you just a little?

Even with some fairly easy opportunities, I quickly discovered being submissive is not easy, and that sometimes opportunities are just not to be had.

It wasn't until this morning I even realized I had an opportunity last night. I woke up with the thought, "Hey, when Fire Watch told me No last night, I actually settled down. Then I realized opting to take over Hannity's America and rename it Meri's American probably wouldn't rank high on submission attempts. But up to that point--about two hours or twenty posts, I had actually been submissive--and awake!

Instead of hooting, Ray, you should be patting me on the back and giving me "atta girls."

And unlike here in this thread, no one in the classroom suggested that I was suffering from brain rot. But then, we have rules of respect in the classroom.
